The green loading bar crawled across the digital display. Ten percent. Fifty percent. Ninety percent. Then, a loud, clear chime rang out from the tablet speakers. The screen flashed a bright, undeniable green approval checkmark.

Martin Sanchez stared at the screen. All the color drained from his face. His mouth fell open slightly as he read the verified name and the impossible string of zeros attached to the account balance. Two billion dollars. The man standing in front of him wearing scuffed sneakers and a sweaty t-shirt was the sole owner of the largest single cash reserve in the entire city.

Anita Bertha did not see the screen. She was too busy glaring at Mason with absolute disgust.

"What are you waiting for?" Anita snapped at the security guard. "Grab this lying trash and throw him out before he ruins our reputation!"

"Shut your mouth!" Martin roared.

Anita jumped backward in shock. She looked at her boss in total confusion. The guard froze in place, his hands halfway to Mason's shoulders.

Martin shoved the tablet directly into Anita's face. "Look at the screen, Anita. Look at the balance. You just tried to order security to assault our most important client."

Anita read the number. Her eyes widened in absolute horror. The smug, arrogant expression melted off her face instantly. Her knees actually buckled slightly. She looked from the tablet to Mason and swallowed hard. She forced a sickeningly sweet smile onto her trembling lips.

"Sir... Mr. Mason," Anita stammered, her voice shaking badly. "I am so incredibly sorry. This was a terrible misunderstanding. We have strict protocols for security, but clearly, I misjudged the situation. Please, come inside. Let me get you a premium coffee."

Mason looked at her without a single trace of pity. He turned his attention to the branch manager.

"Mr. Sanchez," Mason said calmly. "You have two choices right now. You can fire this woman immediately, or I will turn around, walk across the street, and deposit my two billion dollars with your biggest competitor."

Martin did not hesitate for a single second. He looked at the security guard.

"Strip her badge," Martin ordered coldly. "And escort Ms. Bertha off the premises. She is no longer employed at First National Bank."

Anita gasped. "Martin, you cannot do this! I have worked here for five years! You know how hard I work!"

"Grab her," Martin told the guard.

The massive security guard stepped forward and grabbed Anita firmly by the upper arm. He did not show any of the respect he had given her two minutes ago. He pulled her down the concrete steps as she cried and pleaded to keep her job. Mason stood perfectly still and watched her get dragged away into the humid afternoon air. The very woman who had tried to block him from entering was now being physically removed from the property.

Martin turned to Mason and offered a deep, respectful bow. "Mr. Mason, please accept my deepest apologies. Allow me to personally escort you to our top-floor VIP suite. We will handle your transfer immediately."

Mason followed the manager through the heavy glass doors. The interior of the bank was pristine and heavily air-conditioned. They bypassed the long lines of regular customers waiting at the tellers and took a private, wood-paneled elevator straight to the executive floor.

Inside the lavish VIP suite, Martin personally handled the massive transaction. He moved with extreme speed and efficiency, sweating slightly as he typed on his secure terminal. He successfully transferred one billion dollars directly into a high-yield savings account per Mason's exact instructions. For the remaining funds, Martin unlocked a highly secure vault and presented Mason with an exclusive, limitless black card. It was heavy, sleek metal.

Mason held the card in his hand. He had walked up to those glass doors with three dollars to his name. Now he held the financial power to crush almost anyone in the city. He signed the final transfer documents and placed the black card securely into his wallet.

As he rode the private elevator back down to the lobby, his thoughts drifted to Vanessa. Three years ago, he had made the ultimate sacrifice for her. He had completely cut ties with his own powerful family to be with her. His parents had hated Vanessa, viewing her as manipulative and greedy. Mason had chosen love over his family name and walked away from his entire inheritance.

Now she was gone. She was marrying into Steve's wealthy family instead. She was completely oblivious to the fact that Mason had abandoned a massive fortune just to keep her happy, only for her to betray him for a smaller paycheck.

Mason walked out the front doors of the bank. The security guard nodded respectfully as he passed.

He pulled out his phone and opened a premium ride-hailing app. He did not have to worry about the cost anymore. He ordered the most expensive luxury SUV available and typed in his destination.

He entered the exact address for the corner cafe where Vanessa worked. It was time to pay his ex-fiancée a visit and buy the business right out from under her.

"Do you have a gold invitation card signed by Lady Amelia Sterling herself?""No, I do not," Mason said calmly. "I told you, I am just looking for a room.""Then you need to turn around and walk right back out those doors," Sarah snapped, her tone dripping with annoyance. "You can come back next week after the party has cleared down and the regular rooms open back up for common visitors."Mason frowned, his irritation growing. "Listen to me carefully. I am tired, and I am not looking to attend any party. I just want a key to a room so I can rest."Sarah crossed her arms and glared at him. "Do not waste my time, sir! Every middle-level corporate manager and regular millionaire who buys a nice suit thinks they can just wander in here and pretend they belong with the big leagues. You think because you dressed up nicely tonight you get to breathe the same air as the top-tier elite? The only rooms available in this entire building tonight are on the top floor, and those are reserved exclus

Mason stood near the large glass window on the top floor of Grandview Medical Center, looking out at the city streets. The headlights of passing traffic formed long lines of white and red across the dark pavement. His body felt heavy, and his mind was completely exhausted from everything that had happened since the afternoon. In a single day, he had walked away from his old life. He spent three years struggling in a cramped apartment, eating cheap food and saving every dollar he earned, only for Vanessa to dump him for Steve. She had mocked him for being broke, completely unaware that his long-abandoned crypto wallet had cleared two billion dollars. From that moment on, his entire reality had shifted. He sat down in one of the plush leather armchairs in the executive boardroom and pulled out his new titanium phone. He opened his banking app to review his numbers. Two billion dollars sat in the primary ledger. He had transferred one billion into a high-yield savings account through Mar

The elevator doors glided shut with a soft, expensive hum. Mason stood alone in the private mahogany car, his reflection staring back at him from the polished brass walls. The midnight-charcoal suit hugged his frame, and the subtle scent of high-end cedar and sandalwood filled the small space. He replayed the brief moment in the lobby. He hadn't seen their faces clearly through the hurried blur of the hospital staff, but the sharp silhouette of the tailored jacket and the sound of that distinct, arrogant cadence had registered in his subconscious. Steve and Vanessa. They had been standing less than twenty feet away while he walked in. Mason let out a low, humorless breath and shook his head. "Too soon," he muttered to himself, his fingers brushing against the cool titanium casing of his new phone. It had only been a couple of hours since Vanessa had packed her bags, sneered at his broken life, and walked out the door to join a man she thought owned the city. Running into them righ

Martin Sanchez sat in his expansive corner office on the top floor of First National Bank, spinning a gold-plated Montblanc pen between his fingers. His laptop screen displayed a real-time portfolio tracking feed for their newest, most catastrophic client. Mason. Two billion dollars in liquid capital deposited in a single afternoon. To any traditional banker, a client of that magnitude was a career-making asset. To Martin, it was a golden leash he had no intention of ever letting go of. His desk phone blinked softly. He pressed the speaker button instantly. "Put him through," Martin said, his voice smooth and practiced. "Line three, Mr. Sanchez," his assistant replied. Martin picked up the handset. "Mr. Mason. I trust the morning acquisitions treated you well?" "They did, Martin," Mason's voice came through the receiver, calm and entirely composed. "The phone works. The suit fits. What do you have for me?" Martin smiled, leaning back into his ergonomic leather chair. He loved a

The afternoon sun felt different against Mason’s skin. For the first time in his life, it did not feel like a harsh spotlight illuminating his failures. It felt like a stage light. He stood on the bustling sidewalk outside his newly acquired cafe and looked down at his phone. The screen was cracked in three different places, spider-webbing across the glass so badly he could barely read the time. The battery hovered at a pathetic twelve percent. This was the device he had used to track his dwindling bank account, the device he had used to desperately text Vanessa when she started coming home late. It was a relic of a dead era. Mason tossed the broken phone into a nearby municipal trash can without a second thought. Two blocks down the avenue sat Vanguard Electronics, the city’s most exclusive technology retailer. The store did not have price tags in the windows. It did not have flashy sale signs. It was a minimalist, glass-fronted sanctuary designed specifically to keep average cons

Steve sat in the plush leather backseat of his luxury town car. He stared at the flashing numbers on his encrypted financial tablet. A harsh headache pounded behind his eyes. Beside him, Vanessa leaned her head against his shoulder. She completely ignored the tense atmosphere and filed her nails with total disinterest in anything other than herself. "You are going to fire all of them, right?" Vanessa asked. She did not bother looking up. "Especially that obnoxious girl, Chloe. She always thought she was better than me just because she made the manager schedule. I want you to walk into that cafe, announce you own the place, and fire her right in front of the entire morning rush. It will be hilarious." Steve forced a tight smile. "Of course, babe. I am handling the acquisition right now. My broker is finalizing the bid as we speak." He lied through his teeth. His broker was actually panicking on the other end of a secure text thread. Steve had put forward a massive offer to buy th
