As if his voice was recharging their strength, the two strange-looking people began to approach him faster. Impulse told Danny to run. He wanted to run but then, he asked himself why he should run from the two harmless people who looked like they needed his help.

“Are you guys okay?” he asked but to his dismay, the man tripped on the dead body on the floor and fell on it while the girl tripped on the man and fell on the floor.

Now, they were both crawling toward him, snarling and outstretching their hands reaching out to him.

The man first grabbed Danny’s leg but Danny jerked away in fright. “What's wrong with you?!” he hollered again, already starting to sweat in the hot corridor.

Some black worms were crawling out of the dead body and crawling up the body of the two people in front of him –but they seemed not to care about the slimy things as they entered into their ears and even their mouths.

“What in the world is this?!” Danny grumbled in disgust, almost puking.

He heard a noise from in front of them and when he looked up, he saw three more people looking the same way with the same charred effects on their skins as the two people crawling and reaching out to him. What surprised him was that these two were too dumb to know to climb over the body and were only fumbling over the body still reaching out to him while making those silly snarling noises.

He decided something was off when the three new people ambushed him, stepping on those two previously on the floor.

One of them grabbed Danny’s shirt and the blood-stained fabric which Danny just noticed was rusty with blood tore, flew down, and then all three people charged at the fabric.

“What the?” Danny muttered now as he began to walk with his back.

He could not take his eyes away from the people who had now decided that the fabric wasn't an object of interest and had again begun to move toward Danny.

“Stay away from me!” Danny yelled and his yell got more responses as he heard a loud noise of footsteps climbing the staircases.

He again heard the snarling sound from behind and when he turned his neck, about five people were at the far end of the corridor cornering him while the three were still walking up to him.

“What do you people want from me? Where am I?!” Danny yelled in frustration as he was at a total loss for what to do.

He had no idea where to turn to and could only stand while watching the three people approaching him and hearing the other five from opposite almost close.

A hand that touched his shoulder from behind caused him to jump.

“Ahhh!” he screamed but when he turned, he saw the girl which he had originally run from behind him, her hands on his mouth.

Oh, he was in danger. He could feel it all over him. His panic was rising and warming over his every vital.

“Stop making the noises. It increases their pace!” she scolded him but the three people in front of him had gotten to them.

“Avoid their bites!” the girl yelled as she pushed off the first girl who had charged at them.

A boy charged at Danny too and impulse made him push him away the same way the girl had done. Immediately, they stood up again and one of them pounced on Danny, throwing him down.

“Don't let it bite you!” he heard the warning from the girl as she fumbled with the other two.

Why was she calling people ‘it’?

The one who had pushed Danny down now was a girl in a very short dress. With her large earrings, one could tell she was dressed for a party.

They all looked like they were dressed for a party except all of their clothes were dirty and blood stained.

Right now, she was on top of Danny, his hand blocking her face away from his as she gnashed her teeth together– her saliva dripping down and almost falling on Danny’s face.

Finally, he tossed her away and stood up his ground. He assisted the girl in pushing off the other two and once again, the people shoot up as though they could never get tired of being tossed like that.

The sounds of the other five approaching became more audible.

“Oh shit!” the girl cursed as she turned to see that it was only a few meters distancing them from the other five. “Run. To the room now, run!” she shouted as she dashed to the door which was only one door away from them now.

Danny ran after her, his notion about her being a psychotic killer changing.

As they entered the broken door, “Help me lift the bed!” she instructed as she was already pushing the bed up.

Danny immediately decided those people outside were scarier than her. With their gnashing teeth, it almost seemed as if they wanted to eat them.

Danny remembered the saliva from the girl had dropped on his face and quickly, he wiped his face, ridding it of the slimy thing.

He only gazed at his hand to look at the liquid but found three black worms identical to the ones creeping out of the corpse on his curling on his hand and quickly, he flipped them off.

“Shit!” he cursed.

He was already by the bed and helping the girl in pushing it out of its place.

Together with speed, they pushed the bed to the broken door but they were not fast enough. The two boys and a girl were already in front of the door but got stuck as they wanted to wriggle themselves in at the same time.

The action led them into fumbling with the limited space in the broken door but was not enough to fit the three of them.

If only they gave way for one another and allowed one person in before the other, they’d be inside the room but they were too dumb to know that it seems.

Thank the stars for that.

“Let's lift the bed. The door won't be able to hold when the other five get here and I'm sure more will come because of the noises.” the girl said beside Danny and was already lifting the bed on the other end.

Danny knew she was right by the door not being able to hold when the other five got there but what he was confused about was what was wrong with the people, why they were after them, and why Danny needed to run from them.

“What's wrong with them?” he inquired as he also lifted the foam from the other end.

It was difficult at first but they were able to push the bed up and only needed to push it closer to the door.

What he heard the girl say made him drop the bed in shock.

“They are freaking zombies Danny. What's wrong with you?!”

Zombies?!

He was in a house filled with zombies?

Like in the movies?

Were zombies real at all?

Was any of what was happening to him even real?

“Pick the fucking bed up or we’d have our brains eaten out by the time those things got to us!” she hastily scolded him when he dropped the bed and immediately, he had to shake off his shock and obey her words.

“How– how did this happen?” he asked more to himself but she heard him and answered him.

The snarling of the three people stuck in the middle of the door did not allow him hear her well as they both pushed the foam onto the door.

The middle size bed collided with the door, nearly breaking it down. The sound that came from it was loud and the footsteps Danny and the girl heard from outside got louder.

“Pheew!” Danny saw her wipe off sweat from her face. “More are here. Let's hope this can hold a little until help comes.”

As soon as she said that and Danny was about to bombard her with questions, the TV in the room which formerly had no static flipped and a voice began to ring from it.

Okay, Avery got him. There was no way he’d tell the man that those people weren't his real parents but just some people who looked like them.Yet, he really did want to see them. He turned to Avery. “What if what we meet there isn't a good one? I might not have the vigor to go to the store anymore if I find my parents are already zombies. Let's go to the store first and there, after.” Danny said.Avery didn't argue with him but instead led the way while Danny trailed behind. His mood had dwindled as he had begun to be crippled in fear of the unknown. The store sure was in bad shape and when they entered it, they found its shelves were empty shelves. Avery and Danny could hear the faint groaning of zombies inside. They were not alone here.“This place sure is creepy," Avery whispered.Danny turned to him, nodding in agreement. “Just like every other goddamn place here. If the weather changes and the bloody rain falls, we are done for. Sounds like there's a lot of them in here.” He said

"I used to live around here," he replied, trying to keep his voice steady despite the gnawing uncertainty in his gut.He wanted to go check it out – to go see if his parents were there. For all he knew, they wouldn't recognize but that was the least. They might be zombies too.Was he ready to stomach such?Avery raised an eyebrow. “Whoa! I never knew you lived this close to the clubhouse. You came to have some fun time close to home but the apocalypse did its thing.” Avery was chuckling amusingly. They were walking in the direction of the store now – of Danny’s house back in his reality. “Let's just go, Avery. Regardless of the weather, we’ll still be going with weapons.” And thus, he and Avery got themselves armed in all sorts of befitting weapons. Danny didn't know how to use a gun hence, he went for every other thing else that wasn't a gun.He took an axe, dagger, and a knife. Avery on the other hand went for guns. They had managed to forage as little as they could during these ten days. However, they were only able to get enough all thanks to Avery taking a lot of weapons from their first-time scavenging.Mae had gone near the window, gazing out. “Sky’s clear, people are out, everything seems normal. I think you boys will be okay.” She announced, head still gazing down. The sky did seem clear and it didn't seem like the rain would come anytime soon but then again, they couldn’t be so sure.Avery sighed out loud. “Not like we have a choice anyway. With each day that passed, humanity die harder and the zombie populace increased. It had rained for about two days and it was discovered that the zombies could walk in the rain even if it was during the day.So, like the black worms, the rain was also an enemy. Except the rain wasn't entirely an enemy because it contributed to the survival of the survivors.Perhaps, he should only speak for themselves as he had no idea what the other survivors were going through, Danny thought. However, the rain had done a huge job of helping their group out. Water stopped running the same day they dumped Beck’s decomposing body out. Belina blinked twice after hearing Mae’s explanation of where her daddy was before spewing yet another question.“And Belinda?” She asked again.Mae’s face crept into a frown. “Who is Belinda?” She blurted. At least, if he couldn't contribute too much, he could explain that. “Belinda is her sister.” He thought Mae was around when Belina pointed that out before. She could be so dumb when she wanted to be too, he noted.“Yes, my twin sister,” Belina replied, giving a small smile that Danny wasn't sure he’d seen on her before. It was obvious she thought so highly of her sister and probably missed her.Her zombie sister. The fact that they were twins meant the bond would be stronger than that of ordinary siblings. She wouldn't stop asking about her and Mae’s lie of them being on a journey might not be enough for a long time.“Where is her sister?” Make blurted, turning to him with questioning brows. The hell?He remembered explaining to her and Avery about the encounter he had with Belina

Somewhere without the zombies. That seemed like wishful thinking now. His faith had begun to falter as the unsurety of if they’d be rescued or not had overwhelmed him so much that he didn't want to think about it any longer.Somehow, the disgust of the slimy fluid from Beck’s decomposing body didn't irritate him as much as he thought it would. Not as much as it’d irritate him if this wasn't an apocalypse.Luckily, he found a soap sitting on the soap holder in the toilet. He made sure to wash every nook and cranny of his body and after minutes of wasting the water he knew was limited, he stepped out of the bathroom dressed only in his falling jean now.He wondered why
