The blast door didn’t just open; it violently detonated inward, showering the subterranean laboratory in a blizzard of twisted steel and pulverized concrete.

Darius didn’t flinch. Through the billowing cloud of grey smoke and sparking wires, a silhouette stepped through the threshold—massive, broad-shouldered, and entirely encased in matte-black, experimental powered armor that hummed with a sickly, cobalt-blue discharge.

"Target acquired. Sub-level four secured," a synthesized, metallic voice boomed from the armored figure's external speakers. "Surrender immediately, former Sergeant. You are flagged for immediate reclamation under Directive Nine."

Behind the primary juggernaut, two more specialized operatives poured into the room, their heavy magnetic rail-rifles locked onto Darius’s chest with terrifying precision. This wasn't a standard military squad sent to execute a fugitive; this was Aris’s personal extraction and pacification unit—the military’s ultimate, classified counter-anomaly asset.

Elara shrank back against the server racks, her breath hitching in her throat as she gripped a loose data-cable like a lifeline. "Darius... that’s an Eclipse-class rig," she whispered, her voice trembling over the hum of the cooling units. "They’re not here to kill you. They’re here to harvest the seed."

Darius felt a cold, jagged spike of fury lance through his solar plexus. The seed reacted instantly, surging upward through his veins like black lightning, whispering promises of ash and ruin. The violet glow in his eyes began to bleed outward, casting long, writhing shadows against the blood-red emergency lights.

"Reclamation?" Darius muttered, his voice dropping into a dual-toned resonance that rattled the glass beakers on the nearby lab tables. "Tell Aris he’s welcome to come down and try taking it himself."

The lead juggernaut didn't waste time on dialogue. With a concussive roar of its hydraulic servos, the armored giant lunged forward, closing the distance across the twenty-foot lab in less than a heartbeat. A massive, reinforced gauntlet slammed downward, aimed squarely at crushing Darius into the concrete floor.

Darius moved with a speed that defied human biology. He didn't block the blow; he simply wasn't there. He sidestepped in a blur of motion, his boots skidding across the slick metal grating as the juggernaut's fist smashed into the deck, sending a spiderweb of cracks radiating through the foundation.

"Fast," the synthetic voice noted, the armored giant pivoting on its heel with surprising agility, sweeping a heavy, plasma-edged combat blade toward Darius's midsection. "Subject exhibits anomalous kinetic reflex enhancement. Increasing suppression field."

A sharp, high-frequency pulse erupted from the rig’s shoulder-mounted generators. The invisible wave slammed into Darius like a physical wall, driving the wind out of his lungs and causing the seed in his chest to violently convulse. He stumbled backward, his vision flashing white as static threatened to drown out his consciousness.

"Darius!" Elara screamed, half-stepping forward before a stray rail-bolt chewed up the console beside her, sending a cascade of white-hot sparks raining over her shoulders.

"Stay back!" Darius gritted out, tasting copper as blood welled from the corner of his lip.

The two secondary operatives advanced, their rail-rifles humming as they locked onto his targeting matrix. "Subject is resisting. Engaging non-lethal neural scramblers. Bring him down!"

A blinding flash of cobalt energy erupted from the operatives' rifles, but Darius refused to break. The pain wasn't an inhibitor anymore; it was fuel. The jagged void within him uncoiled entirely, flooding his muscles with a terrifying, destructive strength.

With a guttural roar, Darius thrust his hand forward. A wave of pure, condensed shadow surged from his palm, crashing into the front rank of operatives like a tidal wave of obsidian ink. The force picked up the heavily armored soldiers and hurled them violently backward, smashing them through the reinforced server racks in a shower of shattered glass and fried circuitry.

The lead juggernaut staggered back, its cobalt discharge flickering under the onslaught of Darius's unleashed energy. "Warning. Containment field failing. Subject is exhibiting Class-Omega threshold output."

"You built me to be a weapon, Aris," Darius snarled, closing the gap between them in a single, impossible bound. He slammed his bare hands directly against the chest plate of the experimental armor, the void-energy sparking violently against the high-tech alloy. "Let's see how well your toys handle the source!"

With a deafening shriek of stressed metal and dying hydraulics, the heavy chest plate caved inward like paper. The cobalt-blue generator sparked, sputtered, and died, plunging the massive suit into sudden, heavy silence. The pilot slumped forward inside the wrecked chassis, knocked unconscious by the feedback shockwave.

Darius stood over the wreckage, his chest heaving, his fingers dripping with the dark, oily manifestation of the void. The violet light in his eyes flared uncontrollably, reflecting off the shattered monitors around the room.

He turned his head slowly, locking his terrifying, glowing gaze onto the trembling security feed camera mounted in the corner of the lab—the lens through which General Aris was undoubtedly watching every second of the slaughter.

"Tell the General," Darius whispered, his voice echoing with the dreadful weight of a thousand forgotten timelines, "that the first wave was a courtesy."

He grabbed Elara by the arm, pulling her away from the smoking wreckage as the structural alarms began to wail a frantic, dying note.

"We need to move," Darius said, his voice tightening. "The whole base is coming down on us."

Elara nodded, her hands shaking as she clutched the encrypted drive to her chest. She looked at the devastation around them, then up at Darius's hardened, glowing eyes. "Where to?"

"To the core," Darius said, turning toward the deeper maintenance shafts that led straight into the planet's belly. "If Aris wants my blood, I'm going to give him the whole damn ocean."

The air inside Sub-Level Six tasted of wet rust and old copper. Dr. Elara’s boots echoed against the perforated steel grating as she hurried down the unlit corridor, the narrow beam of her handheld mag-light cutting through the heavy, stagnant gloom. Every breath felt like inhaling fine glass dust. She wasn't supposed to be down here. According to General Aris’s latest directives, this sector was sealed under emergency quarantine, flagged as a high-risk structural hazard. But Aris didn't know about the secondary terminal—an analog, fiber-optic bypass wired deep into the bedrock by the colony's original architects before the military took over and turned the science outpost into an armed garrison.Elara reached the end of the hall, sliding her security badge through a mechanical lock that groaned in protest before the heavy blast door clicked and slid open. The room beyond was a relic. While the rest of the base ran on sleek, digital interfaces and holograp

The sky above the outer perimeter didn't just darken; it fractured.Darius slammed his back against the rusted corrugated steel of the observation deck, his rifle raised as a deafening, sub-audible hum vibrated through the frozen ground. Beside him, Kael dropped to one knee, his breath catching in his throat as the horizon—usually a jagged silhouette of dead skyscrapers against an ash-choked sky—lit up with a blinding, iridescent indigo glare."What the hell is that?" Kael muttered, his grip tightening on his rifle so hard his knuckles turned white. "Is that an Aris-class atmospheric drone?""No," Darius said, his voice dropping an octave as the seed in his chest coiled tight like a struck spring. "That’s something older. Something we weren't supposed to wake up."High above the clouds, the artificial stars of the colony flickered and died, snuffed out not by atmospheric interference, but by a massive, sweeping geometric shadow. It was a vessel—or

Snow and toxic ash swirled in erratic gusts, plastering the rusted observation deck in a suffocating shroud of grey.Darius didn't feel the cold. The void humming beneath his skin radiating a steady, feverish heat that kept the frostbite at bay, though it tasted like battery acid on the back of his tongue. He stood motionless beside a shattered radar dish, his assault rifle gripped tight in one hand while his eyes scanned the frozen tree line below.A sharp metallic clink echoed from the stairwell. Darius spun on his heel, his finger tightening on the trigger, the violet embers in his irises flaring in the dim gloom."Whoa, whoa! Easy with the fireworks, man! It’s just me!"A figure stumbled through the rusted hatch, huffing clouds of vapor into the freezing air. Kael slammed the door shut against the howling gale, leaning back agai

  • Chapter 11: Void Genetic Code

The underground subterranean lab hummed with a low, parasitic frequency that made Darius’s teeth ache. The air tasted of copper and ozone, thick enough to chew. He wiped a streak of dark, viscous sweat from his forehead, his breath coming in ragged, shallow hitches as he stared at the bioluminescent monitor glowing in front of him.The screen wasn't just displaying data; it was screaming at him. Double-helix strands of DNA cascaded down the black glass, twisted and corrupted by jagged, obsidian fractures that looked less like genetic code and more like digital lightning."Damn it," Darius muttered, his voice hoarse. He slammed his bare palm against the cold steel console, the impact sending a jolt of phantom pain shooting straight up his forearm. The seed inside his solar plexus flared in response, a hot, rhythmic burn that pulsed in time with the monitor's erratic heartbeat. Every time the pulse hit, his vision blurred at the edges, bleeding into a suffocating, pitch-black void where

  • Chapter 10: Kael's Doubt

The air inside the auxiliary lab smelled of scorched wiring and unwashed panic. Kael slammed his fist against the central terminal, the heavy thump echoing off the sterile, cramped walls. Across the room, Dr. Elara didn't even flinch; her fingers were a blur over the holographic interface, her eyes darting across cascades of rolling data logs that she was frantically scrubbing."He's out there, Elara! Do you even realize what that means?" Kael spun around, his chest heaving under his flak jacket. His voice was ragged, pitched halfway between fury and sheer terror. "Aris has got half the battalion sweeping the outer perimeter with live rounds. One wrong step and Darius isn't just a prisoner anymore—he's a grease stain on the rocks!""And if he stayed here, he would've been dissected before midnight," Elara replied, her voice dangerously calm as she yanked a heavy data-drive from the main console. She shoved it into a secure pouch on her belt. "General Aris doesn't w
