As the first light of day crept over the horizon, the Grand Council Chamber of the Holy Palace lay under an uneasy stillness. Outside, rain lashed against the golden spires of Solis, transforming the stained-glass windows into smeared visions of color. The chill was unexpected for late summer, leaving frost on stone ledges and a thin sheet of ice over the statues in the palace courtyard. Something had shifted, and even the empire sensed it.

Inside, fear gripped the room.

Captain Marius Vex stood at the center, his golden cloak now a tattered remnant of his frantic flight from the Crimson Citadel. His pale face and controlled breathing couldn’t mask the fear in his eyes.

For the first time, Marius Vex appeared afraid.

"Marcus was executed right in front of me," he said, his voice echoing. "The midnight plan failed. When the bell tolled, the ledger claimed him. His body turned to ash, and his essence was drawn into Exodus's blade."

General Viktor Stormborn sat quietly on a raised platform, studying Marius with a hard, unreadable gaze.

"And Cassia?" Viktor asked.

Marius swallowed hard. "She's alive," he replied, looking away. "But she's not the same. The severing shattered her psychic channels. The doctors managed to stabilize her body, but her mind..." He hesitated. "Her mind is nearly vacant."

Viktor's grip on the armrest tightened. "Three," he murmured, looking at Marius. "Kael Darkwater, Theron Ashfall, Marcus Nightshade. Three of our nine pillars gone in just three days."

He rose and moved towards the massive iron map of Solis in the center of the chamber. "Our intelligence network is compromised. The grand forge is in ruins. The Nightshade Twins are broken. And the man we thought we buried is stirring beneath our city."

Tracing the underground passages below the capital, Viktor continued, "This isn't just a rebellion, Marius. Exodus Thorne is assembling a siege beneath us."

Marius's hand gripped his sword tightly. "We need to activate the Grand Covenant. The High Paladin Division should cleanse the aqueducts and seal every entry beneath the city."

A frail voice interrupted from behind the curtains. "The Emperor already knows."

The room fell silent as the curtains drew back. Emperor Aurelius stepped into the candlelight, wearing no crown or ceremonial robes, just a simple white shroud that made him seem ghostlike. Marius and Viktor immediately knelt.

"Your Majesty," they said in unison.

"Stand," Aurelius instructed, descending the dais slowly with the aid of his gilded staff. "I felt the rupture at midnight," he said. "The third grave opened."

His ancient eyes settled on Marius. "Three nights ago, you convinced this council that Exodus Thorne needed to be removed."

Marius's jaw tightened. "I acted for the stability of Solis."

"You acted out of ambition," the Emperor replied, his words cutting deeper than any weapon. "You found Exodus's principles inconvenient and thought eliminating him would strengthen your position."

Marius remained silent.

"And now," Aurelius continued, "the man you betrayed has returned with a ledger, collecting his payment in blood."

Viktor stepped forward. "Then we need to tell the people the truth."

Aurelius's expression hardened. "No," he declared, striking his staff against the mosaic floor. A wave of white light filled the chamber. "The truth would destroy this empire faster than Exodus ever could."

Turning to the windows, he said, "We'll call it the Winter Plague. A foreign necromantic cult has infiltrated the city. Martial law starts immediately. Seal the merchant ring. Station paladins at every major intersection."

"And the civilians?" Viktor asked.

"Curfew," Aurelius replied coldly. "Anyone caught outside will be arrested for heresy."

Viktor hesitated. "And Lyra Moonwhisper?"

The Emperor's eyes narrowed. "The Spymaster betrayed Solis."

"She helped Exodus reach the Nightshade barracks," Marius added.

"Then she has already chosen her grave," Aurelius said, turning away. "If she returns, bring her to me alive."

He paused, "Her tongue belongs to the empire."

Viktor bowed. "Understood."

"Activate the Sun-Crest Spires," Aurelius ordered. "Fill the aqueducts with consecrated water. If Exodus wants to turn this city into a graveyard..." His eyes hardened, "We will make it a furnace."

Deep beneath the citadel, the Sunken Arsenal remained untouched by the chaos above. Exodus Thorne stood by the oak planning table, his broadsword hovering before him. Green frost and black ash swirled around the blade, the runes glowing with the power taken from Marcus Nightshade.

Nearby, Lyra Moonwhisper sat silently, her twin volcanic daggers across her knees. Her transformation was becoming evident. Her skin had grown paler, dark veins marked her wrists, and emerald light flickered faintly in her eyes.

"They've taken action," she said.

Exodus didn't turn. "The High Paladins have sealed the gates and plan to flood the aqueducts with consecrated water."

"Let them," Exodus replied, gripping his sword. Kinetic energy surged through him, his emerald eyes brightening. He felt faster, stronger, more complete. "Their light will only slow us, nothing more."

Lyra watched him. "What's our next move?"

Exodus turned to the map, pointing to a heavily fortified compound—Colonel Darius Ironheart's stronghold. "The fourth flame."

Lyra's expression tightened. "Darius is one of the strongest defenders in Solis."

"Good," Exodus smiled. "His death will send the strongest message."

He leaned closer to the map. "Tomorrow, we break his fortress."

Lyra stared at the marked location. "And if he refuses to fall?"

Exodus's smile vanished. "Then we bring the fortress down with him."

Above them, the empire readied for war. Below, the Revenant prepared for the next battle. Three pillars had fallen, six remained, and the chill sweeping through Solis was no longer a mere warning. It marked the beginning.
