In the Holy Empire of Solis, Commander Exodus Thorne stood as the most dedicated warrior,a silent protector whose sacrifices allowed the kingdom to thrive. To his fellow soldiers, however, he was the barrier to their ambitions of ultimate control. On the night that should have celebrated their great Triumph, Exodus faced betrayal instead of honour. The nine individuals he trusted the most turned against him, leaving him for dead in the Ravine of Martyrs. Yet death did not claim him. Revived as a Revenant and tied to the mysterious Graveyard, Exodus emerged from depths with one goal:mark the souls of his betrayers, drag them down to their graves, and reclaim what they took from him. Nine traitors, nine graves to fill. This isn't just about revenge-he's pulling their graves to them.

Chapter 1

The Great Triumph

The Grand Hall of Solis flickered with light from countless candles, their flames casting dancing shadows on the high ceilings. Crimson banners hung ominously from every pillar, each showcasing the sun-crest of the Holy Empire—a symbol forged in the crucible of blood and fire. The hall echoed with the sounds of victory, but beneath the surface, something felt amiss.

Commander Exodus Thorne stood amidst the celebration, yet solitude enveloped him.

His ceremonial armor shone under the candlelight, its surface marked by scars from a hundred battles. His dark hair, streaked with premature gray, was tied back in a soldier's knot. While others adorned themselves in silk and jewels, Exodus donned the worn leather that had seen him through countless wars.

"Commander!" A young lieutenant stumbled forward, wine spilling from his cup. "To the hero who broke the siege at Blackwater!"

Exodus lifted his own cup—filled with water, not wine—and the room quieted, as it always did.

The revelry around him felt feverish. Musicians played frantic tunes from the galleries above, and the air was thick with perfume that failed to mask the lingering scent of past battles.

"You should smile, Commander," Captain Marius Vex remarked, appearing at his side with a golden grin. "The people want to see their hero enjoy the celebration."

"The people celebrate enough," Exodus replied, his voice somber.

Marius chuckled, but his eyes were as cold as a winter night. "Do you even feel joy anymore? Or has war stripped away everything soft within you?"

Before Exodus could respond, Lieutenant Sera Blackwood approached, dressed in emerald silk. Known as the Empire's finest archer, she was the only woman among his nine trusted officers. Her smile was warm, but her fingers tapped restlessly against her wine glass.

"The Emperor wishes to see you," she said. "In the eastern gallery."

Exodus prepared to leave, but Marius grabbed his arm. "After your audience with His Majesty, join us in the war room. All nine of us. We have urgent matters to discuss."

"Tonight?"

"Ambition waits for no celebration."

As Exodus made his way through the crowd, he felt eyes following him—not with admiration, but with something more sinister. Captain Theron Ashfall and Colonel Darius Ironheart fell silent as he passed. Near the hearth, the Nightshade twins, Cassia and Marcus, whispered with General Viktor Stormborn—Viktor, who had been Exodus's mentor, and whose hand now rested ominously on his sword.

The eastern gallery offered no respite. Emperor Aurelius stood before a window, watching the torches flicker in the streets below.

"Your Majesty," Exodus said, kneeling.

"Rise. Tonight, we are simply two men who have borne witness to too much death." The Emperor turned, his face etched with sorrow. "I see a man who has sacrificed everything for this Empire. Your youth, your peace, perhaps even your soul."

"I serve Solis. That is enough," Exodus replied.

"Is it?" The Emperor's gaze was piercing. "I've received reports. Your officers believe you are holding them back from glory."

A chill crept into Exodus's heart. "I keep them alive. Glory serves no purpose for the dead."

"I understand. But be wary, my friend. Ambition is a ravenous beast, and you stand between it and its meal."

A servant interrupted, summoning the Emperor to the blessing ceremony. As Aurelius left, shadows seemed to deepen around Exodus.

Time passed slowly, like a wounded creature.

When the appointed hour arrived, Exodus navigated silent corridors. The war room door stood ajar, light spilling out like a wound.

He entered.

All nine of his officers waited in a semicircle. Marius stood at the center. Sera was to his right. Viktor was to his left. Captain Lyra Moonwhisper with her silver hair. Lieutenant Kael Darkwater, young and consumed by ambition. The others filled the spaces, like links in a tightening chain.

"Commander," Marius said, his smile tinged with sadness. "Thank you for coming."

"You mentioned urgent matters."

"We did." Marius drew his sword deliberately, the steel's song echoing ominously. "The future of Solis."

One by one, the others unsheathed their weapons.

"What is this?" Exodus's hand moved to his sword but hesitated.

"The only way forward," Sera whispered, her voice filled with despair.

"You are the greatest warrior this Empire has ever known," Viktor said. "And therein lies the problem. As long as you live, we remain in your shadow."

"So we remove the shadow," Kael added, his voice filled with hunger. "And step into the light."

Exodus looked at each of them—comrades he'd fought alongside, protected, made into legends. "I trained you. I kept you alive."

"Exactly," Marius replied. "Now, we will become what we were destined to be. Rulers, not servants."

"The Emperor—"

"Will either understand or not. By dawn, the obstacle will be gone."

"You don't have to do this."

"Yes," Sera said through tears, raising her bow. "We do."

The first arrow flew.

Exodus reacted instinctively, deflecting it, but he was outnumbered, and they knew all his moves. The battle ended swiftly—not due to a lack of skill, but because even the mightiest warrior cannot strike when his heart refuses to harm those he loves.

When Viktor's blade found its mark, Exodus fell.

"I'm sorry," someone said. Perhaps all of them.

They carried him through empty corridors, past the ongoing celebration, into the cold night. The Ravine of Martyrs awaited beyond the city walls—a chasm where heroes were discarded.

But Exodus Thorne would not fade into obscurity.

His body tumbled into the darkness, breaking against stones that had borne witness to countless deaths.

Above, nine silhouettes stood silhouetted against the stars.

"It's done."

They turned and walked away, leaving their commander behind.

Yet in the depths of the Ravine of Martyrs, where bones lay scattered like forgotten prayers, something stirred. Something ancient and ravenous. Something that had waited for a soul like his—shaped by loyalty and sacrifice, now ignited by a darker fire.

Death reached for him with cold fingers.

And then, against all odds, death released its grip.
