When I finished, everyone at the table erupted in laughter. Cherry Corp's Deputy General Manager even spat out his food.

"Double the money? Heavens! I think you drank too much. Do you think we don't know what's going on with your company? You're facing a liquidity crisis and are almost on the verge of bankruptcy! Yet, you're talking about profit?"

"He's right. No matter how much money we toss at your company, it's unlikely to turn into profit."

"Today, we had dinner with you because of Miss Sullivan. We hoped to give your company a helping hand while we were at it. But who would have expected that a useless bum would ruin all the fun!"

I was a bit angry after their repeated insults. I said coldly, "You should be a bit more respectful."

"Or what? I'm going to do whatever the hell I want! I can't believe that a small secretary like you is putting on airs at this meeting. Careful, I need to make just a call for your boss to fire you!"

"I'm Miss Sullivan's secretary. No one other than her can fire me."

I stood my ground, not budging an inch. At this time, Jane was no longer trying to stop me, she only looked at me with a complicated expression. She was happy that I was trying to protect her.

Cherry Corp's Deputy General Manager grabbed his phone and called the previous CEO's number. He then said with a sneer, "You seem to be the type of person that doesn't understand his place until it's too late. I'm going to call your CEO and have him fire you personally!"

"Oh, you're really going for it? You should activate the hands-free function so that we can all listen!"

Everyone sitting at the table was mad. They could not wait for me to be fired.

After a few seconds, the call connected, and Mr. Page's voice came from the other end. "Hello, who is it?"

"Mr. Page, how are you? I'm Jack Cruz from Cherry Corp.

"Ah, so it's Mr. Cruz. How are things going? Are you enjoying your dinner?"

"The food is delicious and Miss Sullivan is such a treat for the eyes. However, there is an annoying sewer rat here who's trying to ruin our fun. Mr. Page, can you take care of him?"

"Who is it? I'll deal with him immediately."

"Mr. Page, if you fire him, we'll invest two hundred thousand dollars in your company. Sounds good, doesn't it?"

I could not help but laugh at that. The way they were bragging, I thought they would invest several million, but it turned out to be a paltry two hundred thousand dollars!

"Good. I'll deal with this matter immediately. Can you tell me his name?"

"I'll give the phone to him. I want to see you fire him live!"

When I grabbed the phone, I noticed their villainous expressions. They were looking forward to seeing me fired so that they could make fun of me.

I calmly took the phone and asked, "This is David Wayne. May I know who I'm talking to?"

I pretended not to know the situation.

There was only silence from the other end. Mr. Cruz even wondered if there was some problem with the signal in this private room.

"Mr. Wayne, what a surprise. I'm Derrick Page, sorry for disturbing you."

"Something wrong?"

"No, no, everything is fine. Can you give the phone back to that other person? I need to talk to him."

"Sure."

When I gave the phone back, the people at the table were dumbfounded and could not believe their ears.

Even Jane was shocked. She looked at me in puzzlement, unsure as to what was happening.

"Mr. Page, what's happening? How come you can't even deal with a small secretary? You even called him Mr. Wayne! Have you gone crazy?"

"You're the one who is crazy! Talking to me like I'm your subordinate after pledging to invest a meager two hundred thousand dollars? Who do you think you are? If not for our company having a liquidity problem, we wouldn't even care about your Cherry Corp, a shitty second-rate company that's trying to take advantage of us while we're down! Go to hell, all of you!

With that, he abruptly ended the call.

All the people at the table were shocked. They were just surprised earlier, but now they were literally dumbstruck.

I could not help but burst out laughing. I pulled Jane to her feet and draped my coat around her shoulders.

"Gentlemen, you can continue drinking if you want, but we won't be accompanying you for this round. As for the investment thing, I was pretty clear I believe. If you want to join us, you can contact us and make your intentions clear. But I'm afraid it won't be so easy this time, and there is a chance you won't be able to be part of the project even if you wish to."

Before leaving, I remembered another thing and said, "Right, can you settle the bill while you're at it? You sure had fun drinking that expensive wine. You kept opening bottle after bottle, hehe."

None of them had made a sound since the phone call ended. I was also clear about the reason. If our company was not going through a liquidity crisis, there was no way they would rely on these second-rate companies to raise funds. Since the funds had been secured and the crisis averted, there was no need to beg for their help.

When we left the restaurant, the cold wind blew in our faces. Jane pulled the coat closer. She was still pretty drunk.

"Brat, you didn't listen to me. We're going to be fired tomorrow." Jane made a fist and tried to hit me. I felt her soft body against mine.

"Ma'am, don't worry. I promise you that it won't happen."

"Call me Jane!" She retorted, sounding like a spoiled child.

"As you wish. Jane, I'll accompany you home. You drank too much."

"David, can you carry me on your back?"

Her flushed face and drunken appearance just added to her charm. I kept my desire in check and carried her on my back.

Feeling her breasts against my back, my little brother almost reacted. However, I still managed to control myself. I piggybacked Jane for a while. Luckily, she soon fell asleep.

I put her in the car and brought her back home. I opened the apartment door and took off her shoes before putting her on the bed.

From her expression, she seemed uncomfortable. Just as I prepared to bring her a cup of water, she started puking. Her clothes became a mess, and a foul smell pervaded the room.

I went to grab some paper towels and started to clean her up, but wearing a dirty dress was unlikely to be too comfortable.

I had a bold idea.

I picked Jane up and brought her into the bathroom, laying her down in the bathtub. I gulped at the scene and felt as if I was going crazy. Her shoulder strap had slid down, exposing part of her breasts.

I found myself short of breath. However, I was not the type to take advantage of another person while they were vulnerable.

With trembling fingers, I slowly took her dress off. My little brother stiffened at the sight.

Left with no choice, I used cold water to wash my face and clean her dress.

At this time, Jane looked like a beautiful flower ready to be picked. Although I tried my best to restrain myself, I still found myself appreciating her tender and alluring figure!

Once I was done cleaning up, I picked her up and brought her back to her room, covering her with a sheet. Then, I headed toward the balcony and smoked a cigarette to calm myself down, but to no avail. I needed a woman!

Still, I was not fine with just anyone. If it had to be someone, it should be Kate!

She was legally my wife, but because of my low self-esteem, I did not touch her once in the past two years. Now, it was time to make her mine!

I had not been home in two days, and Kate had called me countless times, getting ignored each time.

I took a taxi back home. It was around 10 p.m. when I reached the front door.

When I approached the door, I heard a voice. It belonged to Rosie! I perked up my ears, curious to listen to what this hag had to say about me.

"Kate, I think that you should try to butter him up for now. That good-for-nothing is different from before, and he must have gotten rich somehow. Try to coax him, and after we get a better understanding of the situation, we'll deal with him."

"I know, Mom. I'm a bit tired. I'm going to my room."

"Good. When the time comes, try to play along lest you give the game away."

I sneered, the last bit of hope I had for them disappearing. When I opened the door and got inside, Kate and Rosie looked at me in surprise.

I paid them no attention and treated them as if they were air. Unlike before, I did not bother to greet them or anything. I returned to my bedroom and took a cold shower. In the meantime, Kate entered the room in her pajamas.

A short while later, I came out wearing boxers. Among Kate's rules, there was one that prohibited me from leaving the bathroom unless I was properly dressed. Moreover, I had to keep a distance of ten feet between us.

I had had enough of these rules. I casually lay on the bed, feeling its soft texture for the first time in two years. In the past, I was always relegated to the cold floor.

Kate did not say anything but frowned a little, clearly unused to such a situation.
