Like a whirling of the wind, a swift sound came from the door diverting his attention away from his inner thoughts towards it.
A lady in a white apron who could only pass as a nurse made her way through the door with a tray of something that smelt like food in her hands
His mouth watered and his stomach grumbled as she advanced gracefully towards him, dropping the tray beside his bed with a scornful frown hanging on her face.
Then it came again.
[ Countdown start now ]
[ And remember, doubts can squash the estimated time to complete the task by about 90% ]
He was so confused that he had to ask the nurse to confirm if he was running mad or something.
"Can you also hear that ma'am?" He could not help but inquire.
The stare of the nurse held him back. "I guess that you were beaten so much that you are beginning to hear voices in your head." She scoffed, annoyed that she was serving someone like him.
"Please eat up and get going already" He heard her saying.
He opened up the meal but looking at it, he almost threw up because it was way too Watery like some leftovers with mucus already gathering on them.
"But?" He was about to say but the nurse would not allow him to spit out a single word from his mouth.
"Isn't that enough that we are keeping here already?" She sneered at him.
"And what do you think, you came here from the garbage so that we are going to feed you like a prince? That ain't goin' to work here Mr." Her voice was firm and filled with so much disgust.
"If you aren't eating, then I am taking it away."
She pushed a piece of paper towards him almost immediately and turned around to leave.
Staring at the paper, she could tell that was the prescription of drugs that he was supposed to take.
A slight sigh escaped from his lips as he sat on the bed. His health insurance was over and there was no one that he could get any of those.
From the paper, he could tell that his sister was in the same hospital but he would not be allowed to see her anytime soon.
Nicola's upper back staggered up from the bed and he pushed his way through towards the door with a slight groan.
He was pretty sure that he had not fully recovered and the hospital was only looking for a way to chase him away to create more space
Honestly wished that he could see his sister to know how she was farting but he knew that would be close to impossible.
Getting outside, he could feel his stomach rumbling and he earnestly craved food but his phone was not with him.
'I wished that money was real and I was not making it up in my head.'
[ Host still doubting System after an hour ]
[The first task failed and time shrunk ]
[ Host shall now be punished for doubting system ]
[ Punishment: Enemy that has always been searching for host will find host ]
At this, he wanted to go back to the hospital thinking that he was most likely running mad.
"What the heck is wrong with me" he yelled, hitting his head hard until it ached thinking that it might all be a dream but it wasn't.
Just then, he saw someone walking towards him almost immediately with a frown hanging on his face.
It was Samson and his face broke into cold sweat. Samson was his course mate and after he tried forcing him into writing his exams for him, he reported him to the authorities for bullying.
Even though the issue was taken for granted, the group of Samson and his friends have always bore a grudge against him, searching for him all over campus just to deal with him.
"There isHe heard one of them saying.
"Told you guys that piece of trash is going to be here. How far can he run."
He could feel his heart beating hard against his chest as though it was going to burst through.
'What do I do now
'Could it be
'No, it can't be. It might just be some sort of coincidence.'
He broke into a swift run as soon as he could but they followed him closely from behind, chatting his name and his face broke out in cold sweat.
From the fierce look on their faces and his aching body, he could tell that they were going to catch up with him pretty soon.
"Maybe it's time to give this little voice in my head some elements of doubt."
"I don't know what you are but you need to help me now or he is going to kill me if he certainly gets me." He yelled at the top of his voice while his legs swapped through the floor without touching the floor.
[ System help: Run towards the right, enemy will lose host ]
Without any form of hesitation, he sped off towards the left with his heart racing with his chest towards the left side of the Street, hiding against an abandoned building.
And to his surprise, they sped off towards the left.
[ Host successfully escaped danger ]
[ Punishment completed ]
[Second phase of the task begins: Host has 72 hours to spend all the money in his account ]
[ Reward for task: Triple of amount and 3 CONSORTIUM points to acquire skills and save life ]
[ Punishment for failed task: System leaves host leaving to host's death because the system is the only reason host is a life ]
It was as though a glass of freezing water was sprinkled all over his body and the chill went down his spine.
"Death?" He repeatedly struck his bones.
Nicola clutched hard to his head and it seemed as though it was going to tear apart into two halves.
Just a few days ago, he had nothing in his account and now, a voice in his head telling him that he was a multi-billionaire.
Only a fool would believe all of that.
But after what happened, it would be stupid for him not to also believe it.
There was only one way to know now and that was going to be going to the bank to confirm if he had that money in his account.
Looking up, he noticed that he was already at the Bank's location.
After a few security checks, he walked towards the front desk of the bank where he could make a few inquiry services.
"Good day, ma'am." He greeted her immediately.
Without spilling a word from her mouth, her eyes surveyed every single detail of water he was putting in front of his head to his feet.
"I don't get what you want but this is not a charity organization. I could have given you a referral but I am kind of busy right now." She hissed, fixing her eyes back to the computer that she was working on.
"Can the next person come please?" She yelled into the mic before her.
"Next person? I am still here and you aren't even attempting to attend to me."
Her eyes surveyed the place once more as though she could not see anyone there.
"Thought I heard someone. That must certainly be the wind."
Her behavior got him worked up and a frown hovered on his face, even though he was broke, that was certainly not a way to treat anyone.
Especially in a bank?
"I guess you leave around a lot of g baggers to notice one easily." His words shot her straight through her heart, making her raise her head.
"Excuse you?"
"Do ants go to sweat or the other way around? I can see that you are educated, how unfortunate of you."
"Now if you would let me, I will tell you the reason that I am here. So I don't have a cell phone, and I would like to check the balance in my account." He noted.
She frowned at his words, still injured but what he had initially said to her.
"Just take a quick look at yourself. Can you even afford to have an account!" She frowned harder.
Just then, a man dressed in a classic white suit Walked graciously into the place and he held a car key in his hands.
"Hey." He greeted me almost immediately.
"Good day sir, how may I help you." She greeted him back with a smile on her face.
"I want to check my balance and make a few other inquiries."
"Okay, sir. Just a moment. Provide me with your account details. But before then, do you want anything? Coffee? Tea?" She inquired further.
"I'm okay." He replied.
Meanwhile, Nicholas was still standing there with his jaws far apart with so much shock. He clutched his hands with so much anger at what she did.
Stretching his hands towards the computer, he stopped her from working on it.
"What are you trying to do now?" She tried to get his hands away from the computers but it was way too firm.
"I came here before him. So you should attend ke first. I thought it's first come first serve as stated in the company policy?"
"SORRY BUT WE DON'T ATTEND TO MAKE PEOPLE HERE, THE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL DOES." She pushed his hands away from a computer.
"You know what, I should see the manager give you a terrible rating."
"And you know what, I am done trying to put Sense into that thick dull sense of yours. I am getting security."
She brought out the cell phone and was about to call security but then, a really strong aura walked in.
The banker shivered as she got her hands away from the telephone.
"Good day, Mr. Nelson. I wasn't expecting you here today." She shuttered.
"Yeah. We are expecting a VIP in the bank soon, and I was waiting for him but then, I heard you guys yelling over here. What's wrong? We need to be at our best. At least for today." His voice was delicate and his accent classic.
"It's just this bagger here that came to ask for money but I already told him that this place is not a charity organization." She affirmed.
"But don't worry sir. I am going to get the security officer to get him out."
"Bagger?" He frowned.
"Bagger?" Nicola's repeated.
The face of the man moved towards him but immediately his eyes caught a glimpse of his, and he shuddered and panicked.
His iPhone 13 pro max streamed out from his pocket almost immediately and he searched through the documents.
'Indeed, it was the VIP that they were expecting. With the highest deposit in the bank.:
"VIP Nicolas?" His blood ran cold
"VIP?" The banker repeated.
