CHAPTER 1

"Please mum, I really need this money, it's just ten thousand dollars, I don't want my wife to die. I swear this is the last time." Romeo begged his mother inlaw on his knees.

Mrs Davidson furrowed her brow in scorn and agitation. "Who is your mother." She asked. "Please do not put me in the shoes of that less privileged and useless creature that put you in this world."

"Please Mrs Davidson, consider the fact that we are talking about your daughter here, she has been struggling ever since her third trimester… I…don't want my wife to die…please…"

"Why are you making me look like the villian here?" She bellowed in anger. "Am I her husband? Is it my fault that she got married to a useless, worthless and disheveled horny he goat like you? I warned her against getting married to someone like you because I knew something like this was going to take place in the future…now it seems that my predictions were correct." She hissed before taking a sip of her overly expensive wine.

"But she loved me and I loved her. I try my best to be a good husband always… let's not forget that I was the one that saved her from the accident that claimed all the occupants of that vehicle that was consumed by the truck, I am not that useless ma."

"Didn't we reward you for your presumed heroic deed?" She said disdainfully and mockingly. "We rewarded you, but were you satisfied with that? No, you connived, planned and schemed, sweet-talking her into marrying you so you could escape your miserable poverty… Well, look where your deceitfulness has landed you." She spread her arms wide.

"Mrs Davidson I may be anything, but I am not a golddigger." He shook his head in protest.

"Hmmm. Who do you think you are talking to?" She leaned forward.

"I said I am not a golddigger." Romeo said firmly, looking at Mrs Davidson's eyes.

Mrs Davidson swung her hands sideways and gave Romeo a dirty slap.

Romeo held his face as he felt the impact of the strike.

"Who do you think you are you son of a…"

Just then a man walked in. He was handsome, well built and he looked not just good but also expensive as he wore an Italian suit.

His appearance exuded elegence and he put on a proud demeanor.

"Hello Mrs Davidson." The handsome man put on a sweet smile.

"If it is not the one and only Andrew Baines!" She exclaimed in excitement as she stood up from her seat, rushed towards the handsome man and hugged him.

"How are you?"

"I am fine Mrs Davidson."

"Wow look at you. You look so handsome and otherworldly. Huh are this for me?" She referred to the beautiful flowers that Andrew was holding.

"Yes ma'am. You can have them." He handed the flowers over to her.

Mrs Davidson perceived the sweet scent of the flowers. "Oh Andrew you are this are so lovely."

"I knew you would love it. Anyway I have spoken with my father about your family and how I would love it to have you all as special guests in his prestigious birthday party and guess what?"

"What?" Mr Davidson fixated her eyes at Andrew in anticipation.

Suddenly Andrew took out some gold coloured tickets from his pockets. "You all are invited."

"Yes!" Mrs Davidson leaped for Joy as she took the golden tickets. "Oh Andrew you are surely a good man. To be honest you have just made my day which was about to be thrown into shambles by this deadbeat dog of a fellow." Mrs Davidson looked scornfully at Romeo.

Romeo stood up from the ground as he stood to his feet. He waved at Andrew in greeting "Good day sir."

Andrew curled his lips and turned from him. He held his nose even. "Oh God, I can perceive his bad scent from where I am standing." He said. "Mrs Davidson just give me the permission, I can order my bodyguards to throw him out of your house and ensure that he doesn't keep on troubling you."

"Let the dog be Andrew, I cannot hurt your bodyguards by giving them the pain and stress of moving this dog out of here."

"Mrs Davidson I also have a vehicle parked outside. It is meant to convey you and your family to the our family's ball."

"A vehicle? I would love to see it." She smiled.

They moved downstairs and what greeted them was a Diamond class Mayfair Sedan and a Platinum falcon SUV, by the way Romeo also followed them.

Mrs Davidson gasped. "Oh my God there are two vehicles, but you said you were going to show me just one."

"I am sorry Mrs Davidson, my bad. By the way this vehicles are the best in the country."

"They surely look like the best." Mrs Andrew nodded as used her palms to feel one of the vehicles."

Romeo didn't want to spoil Mrs Davidson's happy time but he felt the severe urge to be persistent in requesting for funds from Mrs Davidson.

Something deep down told him that Mrs Davidson was never going to let her daughter to suffer severely or die, even though she hated her for going against her wishes to get married to a hopeless individual like him.

"Mrs Davidson please. Your grandchild is about to come into this world and it wouldn't be good to make the child to suffer. At least if you would not do it for me, do it for the baby. For the fact that this is your daughter we are talking about."

Mrs Davidson became startled and she grunted. "What is the matter with you? You know what take this." She threw a few dollar bills on the floor. "Now leave me let me be in peace!" She bellowed in anger.

Suddenly, Romeo's phone rang.

"Hello!"

"Hello, am I speaking with Mr Romeo Stewart?"

"Yes, Yes I am the one."

"Hurry to the hospital we need you urgently. It is your wife."

"Oh my God, I am on my way."

Romeo hurriedly bent down and picked up the few dollar bills on the floor.

"Thank you Mrs Davidson." He said before he rushed towards the gate of the house and closed it behind him.

He was sweating profusely as he hurried towards the bus stop.
