Dexter came down from the taxi, he rushed inside their house.

“Ava! Ava?”

He approached the sitting room and found Ava on her wheelchair watching a TV and a large bucket of snack in her hands as she scooped the popcorn with her hands and shovel it directly to her mouth.

“Dexter? Your back” she muffled.

“You're okay.” Dexter was relieved.

“Yes I am, all thanks to Henry” she said as Henry walked out from the kitchen with a bowl of food.

“Henry?” Dexter was shocked. Henry was his best friend, they met during his time in the Mage hunting academy, although Henry is now a successful Mage hunter and a grade B fire mage hunter.

“Where the hell have you been Dexter?” Henry asked with concern and anger.

“I'm so sorry man, I… I attended to something important” Dexter cooked up a lie. He would only look stupid if he told them exactly what happened to him.

“More important than Ava?” Henry gestured at the 14 years old girl who was more focused on her snack.

“Damn”

Dexter then walked up to his little sister. “Hey, how are you?” He bent down to her height.

“I thought you left Dexter. I thought you were sick and tired of me and you decided to leave me all by myself” she said, allowing tears to slide down her eyes.

“No Ava, you know that would never happen, I only went to take care of something, but now I'm back” he then hugged her.

“You should at least inform me, so I can take care of her. Ava was left all by herself, luckily I came to say hi and found her crying” Henry said, he had been taking care of Ava ever since Dexter was away, a testament of a real bond he shared with Dexter.

“Thank you so much man” Dexter then gave him a tight hug.

“Whoa!” Henry exclaimed.

“What?”

“You've grown taller just a few days away” Henry noticed.

Dexter chuckled. “Yeah, I guess”

Suddenly a loud sound erupted.

“BOOM!”

The group beneath their feet vibrated.

“What's going on?”

They both ran outside and saw many people running and screaming.

“A dungeon outbreak!” Henry gasped as he looked at the sky and saw a giant portal sparkling with a red and blue streak of energy.

“What!?” Dexter was tense.

Suddenly some hellhound-like creatures dropped down from the portal.

[Monster invasion]

[Approaching threat - Kobolds]

[Threat level - grade D]

[Kill as many monsters as you can]

[Kill at least 10 monsters.

Reward: 10 stats, new Talent and power boost]

[Failure to do so will face the penalties]

The system suddenly appeared. “What the hell!” Dexter found it crazy, it would take an experienced grade C Mage hunter to clear a grade D monster hoard and he was just a grade E, not just any grade E Mage, but the weakest of them this was a death penalty.

“Dexter take Ava away from here, I'll handle the monsters, I've sent a message to the guild, backup will arrive soon” Henry instructed.

Dexter nodded, he was glad Henry was with him at the moment otherwise it would have been way worse than this.

Dexter rushed inside his house as he pushed Ava's wheelchair taking her away as far as he could go.

“What's the matter Dexter?” She asked.

“They've been a dungeon outbreak we have to get out of here”

The monsters glared at Henry, they could sense his aura and immediately knew he was a Mage hunter which made him their first target, as they launched at him. Kobolds are small, dog-like creatures, which are slightly stronger than goblins, with slightly higher HP and MP. They also have the ability to breathe fire, making them a bit more dangerous.

Henry remained calm, he stretched out his hands as his sword materialized from thin air, and then his eyes were set ablaze.

“Fire sprint!”

Henry's body was suddenly covered with flames then… Swoosh!!

He dashed like a rocket into the hoards of monsters.

Slash! Slash! Slash!

His blades cut through the monsters like dry wood, he was moving like a blur each slash was accompanied by a fire energy streak, making the combo super effective.

Rar! Roar! Rahh!

The monsters kept coming more and more, they released their fire breath and Henry counted with his fire sprint, skillfully dodging them and slashing his sword through some.

Dexter was running faster with his sister along with the group of people also running for their lives, suddenly a monster landed in their midst.

“Ah!”

“A monster”

“Run!”

“Somebody call the guild!”

The monster, like a vicious wolf, stared hungrily at Dexter, its eyes as red as a lava, and its fangs sharp. Dexter's heart skipped, he has little experience with monsters, especially the Kobolds, they feel insecure around Mage and can scare them meters away, so they usually attack the Mage's first before feasting on the humans.

“Dexter, it's staring at us!” Ava panicked.

“Don't panic Ava, nothing is going to happen '' Dexter assured her, although he had no plans whatsoever to protect himself and Ava.

*Snared* The monster crawled slowly towards Dexter like a calculative predator. Dexter searched around his corner for anything to use to defend himself and luckily he found a short metal. He quickly picked it up and stood in front of Ava.

The monster charged at Dexter, it jumped at him aiming to bite, not Dexter quickly hit the metal on its face. The impact sent Dexter on the ground meanwhile the monster was barely hurt.

“F***k” Dexter cursed. He tried to get up but the kobold pounced on him, attacking with its sharp claws which slashed through Dexter's chin.

He groaned in pain while Ava could only call his name in fear.

The Kobold then proceeded to bite off his head, but Dexter protected himself with the metal as the monster bit the metal instead, both parties struggled with the metal like a tug of war.

The Kobold then successfully pulled the metal away from Dexter's position, tossing it away with its jaw strength. The monster tried again to bite Dexter's head but he quickly covered his face with his left arm as the Kobold bit it then flung him away like a rag doll. Dexter hit his back on a wall spitting out blood from his mouth.

“Dexter!” Ava screamed.

[HP : 15 -4]

The monster dashed at Dexter again biting him on all corners as his body, blood splash everywhere.

[HP: 11-3]

[HP: 9-3]

With each attack his HP reduced, and Dexter could only guess that if it reaches 0 he'll die. And although he once escaped death, he wasn't sure he'll be so lucky again, and even if he was he can't afford to be in the hospital for three more days leaving his sister vulnerable.

[HP: 6-1]

‘No!’

“I WON'T DIE AGAIN!” He screamed from his lungs picking up the sharp shaped rock from the ground.

“AAAHHH!!!” He used all of his might and stabbed it on Kobold's right eye.

The monster immediately let go of him wimping in pain.

Dexter then slowly got up, he was bleeding all parts of his body and a large wound was on his left arm which was now paralyzed.

“Bring it on! You son of a bi**”

He gritted his teeth holding the rock like his life depended on it.

[HP: 5+4]

‘My HP just increased, this system is starting to make sense, it's similar to a video game and I'm the only player’

His mind snapped back to reality as he saw the angry monster dashing at him.

“Now you DIE!!”

He repeated the same counter, but this time he added more force he continued stabbing the kobold at all angles as its Black-ish blood splattered everywhere.

“DIE!!”

“I'LL KILL YOU!!”

[HP: 9+7]

[HP: 16+5]

…+6

…+5

….+4

His HP increased more and more as he continued stabbing the life out of the monster till he noticed the monster wasn't moving anymore.

“I did it,” he gasped.

[Congratulations - 1 kill]

  • THE END

I stood at the edge of what remained of the battlefield, staring at the ruins of the universe I had fought to save. The stars were slowly beginning to reappear in the dark void, like candles relighting after a storm. My body ached in ways I couldn’t describe, every muscle screaming in protest after the battle with the Abyssal Sovereign. But I was alive. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, I allowed myself to breathe. The weight of the universe—the literal universe—was no longer crushing me. Still, the victory felt hollow as I looked around at the destruction left behind. Planets had been reduced to dust. Civilizations, wiped out in the blink of an eye.It was up to me now. The system’s voice echoed faintly in my mind, its presence weaker but still there."Rebuilding Protocol Activated. Universal Restoration Initiated."I didn’t ask questions. There was no time for questions. With what remained of my energy, I focused, drawing on the fragments of the Sovereign’s power tha

Dexter tumbled through the void, his senses overwhelmed by the sensation of freefall. Darkness engulfed him until, with a bone-jarring impact, he landed on an obsidian platform. He groaned, pushing himself to his feet, only to find himself in an enormous chamber illuminated by swirling energy—red, black, and violet hues pulsated like a heartbeat. At the center of the room stood The Architect, their mask now removed to reveal an unnervingly calm face. Their eyes burned with a malevolent light as they addressed Dexter.“You’ve impressed me, Dexter. Few have made it this far. But you’ve only scratched the surface of my designs.”Dexter tightened his fists. “Enough talk. This ends now.”The Architect smiled, their demeanor unsettlingly serene. “Oh, it will end. But not in the way you think. You’ve been a mere pawn in this game, and it’s time to introduce the king.”The chamber shook violently. The swirling energy began to coalesce into a single, blinding point above them. Dexter shielded

The helicopter ride was a brief reprieve from the chaos they had just escaped, but the tension in the air was palpable. Lila worked furiously on her tablet, attempting to decrypt the data drive, while Marcus cleaned and inspected his weapons. Dexter sat in silence, his fists still clenched, staring out at the dark expanse below.“Anything?” Marcus asked Lila, breaking the heavy silence.“It’s encrypted six ways to Sunday,” Lila replied, her voice taut with frustration. “Whoever set this up didn’t want it cracked.”Dexter’s voice was calm but firm. “We’ve faced worse. Keep at it.”Lila nodded, determination etched on her face. “I’ll need time, but I’ll get it.”The helicopter touched down at a safehouse several miles from the smoldering remains of the Blackwell compound. It was a nondescript building, tucked away in a dense forest and surrounded by state-of-the-art security measures. As they entered, the weight of their mission pressed heavily on them.Inside, the safehouse was surpris

The team sprinted through the collapsing compound, the air thick with smoke and the deafening roar of explosions. Alarms blared, and the ground beneath their feet trembled with each detonation. The Architect's forces weren't just retreating—they were ensuring the base was destroyed, leaving no evidence behind.Dexter led the charge, his enhanced reflexes allowing him to dodge falling debris and navigate through the chaos. Behind him, Marcus kept pace, covering their rear with precision shots that took down pursuing guards. Lila and the rest of the team followed closely, their expressions a mix of urgency and determination.“Extraction point is two clicks east,” Lila shouted over the noise, her voice crackling in Dexter's earpiece. “But we’ve got a problem. Drones are back online, and they’re swarming the area.”Dexter gritted his teeth. “Then we take them out. Keep moving!”As they emerged from the main structure into the open, the sight that greeted them was grim. A fleet of aerial d

The sun was still low on the horizon when the team arrived at the edge of the target area, hidden by a dense line of trees overlooking the sprawling fortress. Blackwell’s main base was far more fortified than anticipated. Towering concrete walls surrounded the compound, with razor wire coiled along the top and watchtowers armed with automated turrets and spotlights that swept the area in precise intervals. Beyond the walls, armed guards patrolled in squads, each equipped with cutting-edge gear.Dexter crouched behind a cluster of shrubs, his sharp eyes scanning the compound. Lila's voice crackled in his earpiece. “Thermal imaging confirms over a hundred hostiles inside, with reinforcements stationed in nearby barracks. The Architect has upped the ante. There’s heavy artillery on the north and west sides, and drones patrolling the airspace.”Marcus, crouched beside him, muttered, “This isn’t a base—it’s a fortress. They’re expecting us.”Dexter’s lips curved into a grim smile. “Let the

The cold night air clung to the dense forest as Dexter and his team made their retreat from the captured facility. Their convoy was waiting at a safe distance, hidden under the cover of thick trees and underbrush. Inside the SUVs, the tension was palpable. Kane and his accomplice were restrained, their wrists bound tightly with reinforced cuffs, their mouths gagged to prevent any further attempts at manipulation.Marcus sat beside Dexter in the lead vehicle, his brows furrowed in thought. “The Architect… If Kane’s not bluffing, this changes everything. They’ve already infiltrated deep enough to create chaos on multiple fronts. It’s not just about us anymore.”Dexter leaned back in his seat, his mind racing. “We’ll analyze the data we pulled from the servers. Somewhere in there is a thread we can follow. The Architect made one mistake—they’ve revealed themselves. Now it’s just a matter of time.”Marcus nodded, but his unease lingered. The Architect’s reputation was whispered in dark co
