Chapter 1: Reborn as a virus

Time seemed to be in a state of stasis.

Everything felt so stale, so static, so out of this world.

Everything felt so dark…, yet it all ended with a bright spark lit up by a loud voice that reverberated in its head.

‘State the Darwin theory of evolution!’

Blink!

A pair of eyes snapped open with a jolt, urgency evident in them despite the grogginess of sleep and tiredness showing.

The eyes flickered as this existence instantly entered deep thought.

This existence did not think about its surroundings neither did it think about itself, the first thought that entered its mind was giving the answer.

'The Darwin theory of evolution is also known as the theory of natural selection and it was proposed by Charles Darwin’.

‘It is the theory also known as the survival of the fittest’.

‘According to the theory, some organisms contain traits and characteristics that are more suitable to the surrounding environment’.

‘Is that all?!’ The voice roared in its head again.

‘F*ck! No!’ He panicked as it cracked its brain in thought.

‘C-Charles Darwin…,’ He stuttered. ‘He stated that these organisms were the ones to live longer and hence were able to reproduce to pass these desirable traits to their offspring’.

‘The organisms who didn’t possess these favorable traits would perish in the environment and hence their traits will not be passed down to the generation after the organism’.

‘Is that all?!’ The voice roared again.

‘One of the most important points to keep in mind about the theory of evolution by natural selection is that individuals don’t necessarily evolve, they just adapt to the surrounding environments that they have’.

‘Good’. The voice finally commended in a lowered tone.

‘Now, state the mutation theory of evolution!’

‘Yes, Professor Gagam!’

This existence was about to crack its brain and start answering again when it suddenly paused.

It looked around. ‘Where the f*ck am I?’

By now, the grogginess that seemed to have been induced by sleep was starting to disappear a bit as it started regaining clarity to its brain.

This existence looked around in confusion as memories started returning.

The first thing that he felt was relief.

‘Phew!’

‘For a second there, I thought Professor Gagam was really testing my intelligence again but I guess it’s just the normal nightmares’.

‘But, what in the name of all midgets am I doing here?’

‘And, where is this…?!’ He paused mid-sentence as he remembered something.

‘Ahh…, I survived?’ His eyes widened in shock.

The last memory he had was being strapped tight to the surgical bed.

He could still remember the Professor’s fanatical gaze fixated on him even as worry mixed with it and as he kept on reminding him about the basics.

‘Eliot, don’t blank out on me’.

‘Stay with me boy…, you can do it’.

‘Keep on stating the basics’.

He remembered the professor slapping him on the face to keep him awake.

‘Stay awake boy!’

‘State the Darwin theory of evolution!’ He demanded.

Instinctively, he complied with the order.

‘State the Mutation theory of evolution!’ Professor Gagam demanded.

‘…’

‘State the Synthetic theory of evolution!’ He demanded again and once again, he complied.

He finally remembered everything.

His name was Eliot and he was the personal assistant to the greatest evolutionary biologist that ever lived, Professor Jonah Gagam, the lead scientist of the International Institute of Biological Evolution.

After decades of research, Professor Gagam claimed to have discovered the secret to infinite evolution, the secret that would allow humanity to break all imaginable limits and attain immortality.

He asked for human test subjects but his superiors refused.

In the end, out of options, Professor Gagam could only turn to his most reliable confidant and assistant, the ever-reliable Eliot.

Eliot became the scape goat.

Having blind faith and belief in his idol, Eliot obliged.

The last thing that he remembered was blacking out in the surgery room.

‘Did I survive?’ He thought.

‘Was the experiment a success?’

He felt some apprehension and excitement all at the same time. ‘Am I immortal now?’

More sober now, he finally focused on his surroundings.

“…!” Eliot’s jaws dropped in shock.

‘Where in the name of mother*cking Godzilla am I?’

At this moment, he seemed to be stuck in a sea of infinite black space.

And him?

At this moment, he could not classify himself as him.

He was just a speck of blue in this infinite black space.

He was an ethereal blue speck in this black space.

“…!”

Eliot almost farted his brain out at the mere sight of his ethereal blue body, his bladder quivered in trepidation, about to open the floodgates out of the sheer shock of this moment.

A thousand thoughts went through his mind at this moment.

‘It seems the experiment failed’. He felt disappointed.

‘So, am I dead?’

‘Is this hell because this is definitely no heaven!’

‘Damn, I really died a virgin!’

[Initiating Support System, please wait…]

Words appeared before him the next moment.

Eliot jolted in shock. ‘What is it this time?!’

‘Are the demons finally coming for my soul?’

[Support System initialized!]

[System boot engaged, please wait…]

[Booting successful!]

[Scanning host for banter!]

[Point found: Host is a virgin!]

“…”

[Welcome to Utopia!]

“What the f*ck!” Eliot exploded, all his fears disappearing instantly after he was addressed by that remark.

“How dare you call me that?!”

“Who do you think you are?”

“I’ll call the police!”

“I’ll report you to the authori…!”

[Host has been temporarily muted!]

“Hmm mmm mmm!”

“Mmm mm!”

“…” Eliot was flabbergasted, he was just f*cking muted.

Well, this truly looked like inside hell.
