Chapter 1: The Awakening Ceremony

The grand plaza of the Vincent estate buzzed with excitement. Young heirs and relatives gathered before the towering Awakening Altar, its ancient runes glowing faintly beneath the midday sun.

Today was the Beast-Taming Awakening Ceremony.

For the Vincent family, it was a sacred tradition. Every descendant would step onto the altar and attempt to awaken their contracted beast.

At the front stood a tall instructor in ceremonial robes. Beside him were the elders of the Vincent family, including the silver-haired grandmother whose eyes carried a sharp, calculating gleam.

The instructor raised his voice.

“Today, the descendants of the Vincent family will attempt to awaken their beast companions. Remember—your talent and bloodline determine what kind of creature answers your call.”

Before the ceremony could begin, the grandmother suddenly lifted her cane and struck the marble floor.

“Before we start,” she said coldly, “there is something that must be announced.”

The crowd quieted instantly.

Her gaze slowly turned toward a young man standing at the edge of the crowd.

Alaric Vincent.

His clothes were plain compared to the luxurious outfits worn by the other heirs. Years of scorn had hardened his expression into calm indifference.

The grandmother spoke without hesitation.

“From this moment forward, Alaric Vincent is no longer a member of the Vincent family.”

Gasps spread through the crowd.

Someone whispered, “They actually kicked him out?”

Another voice sneered, “Not surprising. His bloodline is practically garbage.”

Lucien Vincent stepped forward with a mocking grin.

“Well, well,” Lucien said loudly, folding his arms. “Looks like the stray dog finally got thrown out of the house.”

Laughter erupted among the younger relatives.

Lucien circled Alaric slowly.

“You really thought you belonged here?” he scoffed. “Your blood is lower than dirt. Honestly, I’m surprised they tolerated you this long.”

Alaric said nothing.

His face remained calm.

Lucien leaned closer and whispered mockingly.

“People like you should be grateful just to breathe the same air as us.”

A cousin chimed in from the crowd.

“Forget awakening a beast. Someone like him will probably summon a worm or a rat.”

Another added cruelly,

“No… even worms have more dignity than him.”

More laughter followed.

Lucien grinned wider.

“Let’s make a bet,” he said loudly. “If Alaric manages to awaken anything stronger than a street dog, I’ll kneel and call him brother.”

The crowd roared with amusement.

Alaric finally moved.

Without looking at anyone, he walked calmly toward the Awakening Altar.

Someone shouted,

“Look! The loser is actually going up!”

Lucien burst out laughing.

“You’ve got guts, I’ll give you that. But don’t cry when the altar spits you back out.”

Alaric stepped onto the altar.

The instructor glanced at him.

“State your name.”

“Alaric Vincent.”

The instructor paused briefly, aware of the family’s announcement, but he still nodded.

“Place your hand on the summoning stone.”

Alaric did so.

The moment his hand touched the stone—

The altar exploded with radiant light.

Golden runes ignited across the platform.

A massive pillar of holy brilliance shot into the sky.

Everyone froze.

“What the—?!”

“Why is the altar reacting like that?!”

The golden light condensed in the air behind Alaric.

Wings.

Six enormous wings of pure white light slowly unfolded.

A breathtaking figure descended gracefully from the radiance.

She had long silver hair, flawless skin, and eyes as cold as winter frost.

An angel.

The instructor’s jaw dropped.

“L-Legendary rank…”

The entire plaza erupted.

“A LEGENDARY ANGEL?!”

“That’s impossible!”

“How could someone like him summon that?!”

Lucien’s face twisted in disbelief.

“NO WAY!”

Alaric slowly turned around.

The angel hovered silently behind him, her expression distant and indifferent.

Her presence alone radiated overwhelming authority.

Lucien clenched his fists.

“Ridiculous,” he muttered. “That piece of trash summoned a Legendary beast?”

His father’s expression darkened with jealousy.

The grandmother’s eyes flickered with shock before turning calculating.

Lucien suddenly stepped forward.

“If even someone as pathetic as him can summon a Legendary angel,” he declared loudly, “then I’ll awaken something even stronger!”

He marched toward the altar with an arrogant smirk.

“Move aside, trash.”

Alaric stepped down silently.

Lucien placed his hand on the summoning stone.

“Watch carefully,” Lucien announced. “This is what true Vincent blood can do.”

The altar glowed again.

Light gathered.

A summoning circle appeared.

Then—

A small figure appeared in the center.

The glow faded.

Standing there was a frail little girl.

She had messy hair, pale skin, and wore a torn dress.

Most shockingly—

She had no wings.

The plaza fell silent.

Lucien blinked.

“That’s it?”

Someone whispered,

“…What is that?”

The instructor frowned.

“I… cannot determine her rank.”

Another elder muttered,

“She doesn’t even feel like a Common-rank beast.”

A cousin burst out laughing.

“Wait… is that thing even a beast?”

Another mocked,

“She looks weaker than a stray cat.”

“More like garbage.”

Lucien’s face turned red.

“You’re joking,” he growled.

The little girl looked up timidly.

“…M-Master?”

SLAP!

Lucien struck her across the face.

She collapsed onto the ground.

Tears filled her eyes instantly.

“You useless trash!” Lucien shouted. “I’m a Vincent! How dare you appear before me looking like that?!”

The girl trembled on the floor, silently crying.

Lucien’s father looked both furious and disappointed.

Then his gaze shifted toward Alaric.

Jealousy burned in his eyes.

At that moment—

The grandmother stepped forward slowly.

A sinister smile curved across her face.

“Well,” she said smoothly, “this situation is quite simple.”

Everyone turned toward her.

She pointed her cane toward Alaric.

“Since Alaric Vincent has been expelled from the family…”

Her voice sharpened.

“…everything he obtained through the Vincent bloodline belongs to the Vincent family.”

Alaric’s fists trembled.

The grandmother continued calmly,

“That includes the angel he summoned.”

Murmurs spread across the crowd.

Lucien’s eyes lit up immediately.

“Exactly!” he sneered. “A worthless stray like him doesn’t deserve a Legendary angel.”

His father nodded coldly.

“The contract hasn’t been signed yet,” he said. “Ownership can still be transferred.”

Lucien grinned viciously.

“So hand it over, Alaric,” he said mockingly. “Don’t worry—I’ll take very good care of your angel.”

Alaric’s voice finally emerged, low and furious.

“You’re dreaming.”

The instructor quickly stepped forward.

“Enough!” he shouted. “While ownership can change before a contract is signed, coercion and violence are forbidden!”

The grandmother laughed softly.

“Violence? Who said anything about violence?”

She looked at Alaric with contempt.

“Raising an angel requires unimaginable resources.”

Her voice dripped with disdain.

“A pauper like you couldn’t even afford to feed her.”

The crowd murmured again.

Lucien smirked.

“Face it,” he sneered. “You’re too poor to deserve something that valuable.”

Alaric’s chest Elena with anger.

Just as he opened his mouth—

A cold voice suddenly spoke behind him.

“I refuse.”

Everyone froze.

The angel’s icy gaze swept across the crowd.

Her voice was calm, distant, and filled with arrogant indifference.

“I will only sign a contract with a pure-blooded Vincent heir.”

The plaza exploded with whispers.

Alaric’s face turned pale.

The angel continued coldly.

“This was the agreement between the Archangel and the Vincent ancestor long ago.”

Lucien slowly smiled.

Then he burst out laughing.

“Did you hear that?”

He pointed at Alaric mockingly.

“Even your own angel doesn’t want you!”

Lucien spread his arms proudly.

“Looks like fate agrees with us.”

His grin widened.

“That Legendary angel…”

“…belongs to me.”
