The streets of the small city gradually quieted as night settled in.

After leaving the beast shop, Alaric walked through several dim alleys before finally stopping in front of a rundown inn. The wooden sign above the door creaked in the wind, and the building itself looked like it might collapse at any moment.

Alaric glanced at the few coins left in his palm.

Not much.

But it would have to do.

He pushed open the door and approached the counter.

The tired innkeeper looked up lazily. His eyes moved between Alaric and the small girl beside him.

“You renting a room?” the man asked.

Alaric nodded. “One night.”

The innkeeper looked at the coins Alaric placed on the counter and snorted.

“For that price, you get the smallest room.”

“That’s fine.”

A rusty key slid across the counter.

Alaric picked it up without complaint and led Iris upstairs.

The room was small and poorly lit. A single bed stood against the wall, and the wooden floor creaked under every step.

Iris looked around quietly.

“…Master,” she said softly.

Alaric placed the bundle of Holy Light Grass on the table and gestured toward it.

“Eat it.”

Iris hesitated again.

“Are you sure this will help?”

“Yes.”

She nodded obediently and sat down.

The glowing blades of grass slowly disappeared as she consumed them one by one.

For a few seconds, nothing happened.

Then—

A faint glow began spreading across her small body.

Soft light radiated from her skin.

Alaric immediately focused on the system panel that appeared before his eyes.

The balance indicator slowly shifted.

Darkness Energy: 60% → 50%

Light Energy: 40% → 50%

Alaric watched closely.

Finally—

Balance Achieved: 1:1

The glow around Iris stabilized, becoming calmer and more controlled.

At that moment, a notification appeared in Alaric’s mind.

[Task Completed: Beast Awakening]

Alaric blinked.

More text appeared.

[Reward Granted: Exclusive Weapon Unlocked]

Upper Realm Warhammer

Alaric’s eyes widened.

Before he could process it, a black portal opened briefly in the air beside him.

A massive object fell out.

BOOM!

The floor shook violently.

Dust filled the room.

When it cleared, Alaric stared at what lay before him.

“…What is that?”

A gigantic warhammer rested on the wooden floor.

It was enormous.

The handle alone was taller than Iris.

The hammerhead was easily twice her size.

Alaric rubbed his forehead.

“This… has to be a joke.”

He glanced at the small girl.

“You’re supposed to use that?”

Iris walked closer and tilted her head slightly.

“This feels familiar.”

Alaric frowned.

“You can’t possibly lift it.”

Iris calmly grabbed the handle.

Then—

She lifted it effortlessly.

Alaric’s mouth opened slightly.

Iris swung the hammer once with natural ease.

“Yes,” she said calmly. “This weapon suits me perfectly.”

Alaric stood frozen.

“That thing is bigger than you.”

Iris simply looked at the weapon.

“It feels… right.”

Alaric immediately opened her system panel again.

A new window appeared before him.

Iris – Status Panel

Strength: 15

Agility: 14

Spirit: 11

Constitution: 20

Intelligence: 12

(Average attributes for Level 1 beasts: 5)

Alaric inhaled sharply.

Her stats were already three to four times higher than normal Level 1 beasts.

But that wasn’t the most shocking part.

His gaze moved down to her skills.

Skills

Hammer of Judgment

Throws a massive hammer at enemies, dealing area-of-effect damage.

Divine Bloodline

Ignites divine bloodline power.

Lord of Light Bloodline:

User becomes invincible for 1 minute.

God of Night Bloodline:

All attributes increase by 500% for 1 minute.

Side Effect:

After activation, internal balance collapses and must be restored before fighting again.

Alaric exhaled slowly.

Before Level 20, almost no beasts possessed area-of-effect attacks.

Yet Iris had one at Level 1.

And her bloodline ability…

It was terrifying.

“If that power activates,” Alaric muttered quietly, “even high-level beasts would struggle.”

Iris looked at him curiously.

“Master?”

Alaric shook his head.

“It’s nothing.”

But inside, his confidence was rising.

Tomorrow was the academy entrance examination.

With Iris…

He might actually stand a chance.

The next morning, Alaric and Iris arrived at the Selection Altar.

The plaza was crowded with newly awakened Beast Tamers.

Dozens of young men and women stood around discussing strategies.

At the center of the plaza stood a massive glowing gate.

That gate led into the Secret Realm.

Inside, magical beasts roamed freely.

Participants would earn points based on the monsters they killed.

The monsters ranged from Level 1 to Level 5.

Perfect for beginners.

Alaric walked quietly through the crowd.

Some students glanced at him and whispered.

“That’s the guy who got kicked out of the Vincent family.”

“Yeah, I heard his beast is trash-tier.”

“Below Common rank.”

A boy shook his head.

“Don’t team up with him. He’ll just drag everyone down.”

Alaric approached a small group.

“Do you need another teammate?”

The leader looked him up and down.

Then he glanced at Iris.

“Is that your beast?”

“Yes.”

The boy laughed.

“Sorry, we’re not carrying dead weight.”

Another student sneered.

“Find another team, dirt boy.”

Alaric simply nodded and walked away.

He wasn’t surprised.

And honestly—

He preferred it this way.

Fewer teammates meant fewer people discovering Iris’s secret.

Just then—

A loud voice echoed across the plaza.

“Well, well… if it isn’t the family disgrace.”

Lucien Vincent approached with several powerful-looking students beside him.

Behind him floated the Legendary angel.

The crowd instantly gathered around.

“That’s the Legendary angel!”

“Incredible…”

Lucien smirked when he saw Alaric.

“Still alive, huh?”

His teammates chuckled.

One of them asked, “This the guy you told us about?”

Lucien nodded.

“Yep. The loser who traded a Legendary angel for a useless bug.”

He pointed at Iris.

“That thing.”

The group burst out laughing.

“Looks like a sick child.”

“Are you sure that’s even a beast?”

Lucien sneered at Alaric.

“You should quit now.”

He crossed his arms arrogantly.

“I’ve already teamed up with the strongest students in the academy.”

His team members nodded proudly.

“First place is already ours.”

Lucien leaned closer and whispered cruelly.

“Meanwhile, you and that little worm will probably die in the first five minutes.”

Alaric looked at him calmly.

“Good luck.”

Lucien scoffed.

“Still pretending to be confident?”

The exam instructor suddenly raised his hand.

“The Secret Realm will open now!”

The glowing gate erupted with light.

Energy surged across the plaza.

Lucien laughed.

“Watch carefully, Alaric.”

He gestured proudly to his angel.

“True power looks like this.”

The light engulfed everyone.

In the next instant—

Alaric felt the world shift.

When his vision cleared, he stood inside a dense forest.

The air was cold.

Ancient trees stretched toward the sky.

And he was alone.

Alaric looked around calmly.

“Looks like everyone got separated.”

Iris stood beside him, holding the giant hammer.

“What should we do, Master?”

Alaric opened his senses slightly.

Suddenly—

A deep growl echoed from the bushes.

Five large creatures stepped out.

Demonic Wolves

Their red eyes glowed with hostility.

Alaric scanned them quickly.

Level 3 beasts.

For normal students, encountering five Level 3 monsters meant immediate retreat.

Even full teams would hesitate.

Most students needed to hunt Level 1 monsters first.

But Alaric didn’t move.

Iris’s current attributes were already close to a Level 5 beast.

Alaric looked at her calmly.

“Iris.”

She tightened her grip on the hammer.

“Yes, Master.”

“Use Hammer of Judgment.”

Iris nodded.

In the next instant—

She jumped high into the air.

The massive hammer Elena above her head.

“Hammer of Judgment!”

The weapon crashed down like a falling meteor.

BOOOOM!!

The ground exploded.

Three wolves were instantly crushed into bloody pulp.

The remaining two were thrown back by the shockwave, injured but still alive.

Alaric watched the scene calmly.

Then the system panel appeared again.

Iris has defeated enemies above her level.

Experience gained.

Level Up.

Iris landed lightly on the ground.

Her body glowed briefly.

Alaric saw the update.

Iris – Level 2.

He smiled slightly.

“This exam just got easier.”
