Chapter 9 - How Did She Know It's Me?

The sales person didn't care, he gave Jake two tickets and swiped his card to pay.

Lucky and Sam couldn't help but lean over and look over Jake's shoulder as he began to scratch the cards. They attentively looked at the set of numbers with him.

"...5, 11, 22..." Lucky mouthed the last number written on the card Jake just scratched. It was the exact same ones with the numbers on the lottery board just drawn a few hours ago.

This had never happened before.

Silence!

"Did I win?" Jake showed his ticket to the sales person whose eyes lit up with surprise. He stared at Jake for a long time as if trying to find the words but couldn't before he finally exclaimed.

"No one has won a dime in months, you...you actually." He continued to look at the board and the numbers Jake received In awe.

'So the peak luck thing actually works.' Jake thought.

"So what's the prize for this draw?"

"It's a jackpot! A fucking jackpot of ten million dollars!" This exclamation caused many people to turn and look, awed looks on their faces.

"Wow! I can't believe it! Someone won a jackpot in the lottery."

"I'll need your ID and some more information about you, you can come back two days later with your ticket to retrieve your prize." The sales person said to Jake and he nodded about to leave.

"Hey, what about your other ticket? Aren't you going to scratch it and see?" Lucky reminded.

Jake looked down at the ticket and suddenly handed it over to Lucky. "I'm giving it to you as a gift, I already won a jackpot."

"What?" Lucky's mouth fell open. "But..."

"Take it, you might just finally get lucky." Jake smiled.

Lucky hesitated for a while before he took the ticket, he had no anticipation in his heart at all.

It was already rare for someone to win a tier five jackpot but someone had today, it couldn't possibly happen twice.

"Thanks man." Jake turned around to leave just as Lucky began to scratch the ticket.

After hearing what happened to Jake, many gathered to see curiously when Lucky began to scratch.

Usually his heart would be pounding whenever he was about to scratch a lottery ticket but this time, he felt nothing at all. He didn't even bother to check the numbers after he finished scratching but Sam quickly called out.

"Fuck am I seeing this right?" He squinted through his glasses and stared at the board.

There were three set of numbers released this week for the tier five lottery, Jake had already matched with the first set of numbers, but the second set of numbers...

Lucky's eyes began to light up as he matched the numbers with his own ticket.

"...31, 37, 42." He looked over and over again, the numbers were exactly the same. He didn't know how to react. After a long time of scratching lottery tickets, he... he'd actually won a tier five!

"Wow! Another big win in a single night?" Someone exclaimed.

Lucky suddenly screamed and jumped like someone who'd gone mad. Jake only smiled and shook his head as he entered his car and drove to the hotel.

Two days later he returned to the store to collect his prize. Ten million dollars was deposited into his account after some formalities were done. Some reporters even stood outside the store eager to interview a jackpot lottery winner but Jake adamantly refused to give any interviews.

Lucky was there at the same time to collect his own reward, he thanked Jake profusely and before they parted they exchanged phone numbers. Jake was someone Lucky would never forget for the rest of his life but Jake had just decided to share the luck he'd received for free, that was why he'd given away that lottery ticket.

Immediately Jake entered his car which had upgraded to a shiny silver Mercedes Benz GLS, a notification came in. At first he'd thought it was from the app, for the past two days he'd only been given small tasks and the rewards were nothing much as well, just a few cash prizes, however the message was from a new contact he'd added a while back. Markus Smith, the chief executive of oak house.

-Mr Watson, there's an emergency meeting scheduled for 11am, it would be great if the CEO could be present. Will you be able to make it?-

At first Jake wanted to refuse, he really wasn't interested in running a company, however he changed his mind. Now that he was a superior at a big company like oak house, he might as well show himself to the higher ups so they wouldn't take him for a complete fool.

-Sure, I'll be there.-

Jake drove to the nearest L&D store, a luxury men's wear brand well known in Eastside.

When he arrived he was welcomed well by the sales staff. Money sure brought respect.

"What kind of pieces are you looking for sir?"

"I'd like something formal please, not too flashy but presentable."

"Alright sir, please follow me."

By the time Jake came out of the fitting room, he was wearing a neat white dress shirt tucked into sleek pants, a trendy men's coat hanging around his arm stylishly.

He didn't notice how the female sales ladies eyes followed him with every step he took, they were completely mesmerized.

His charm stat peaked at this point of the day and their admiration quickly grew into lust.

"Sir, you look so handsome, if you need a companion for the night then..."

"No thanks, I'm good." Jake quickly rejected finding the women's behavior weird. He hurriedly paid and rushed out of the store as they stared after him.

Jake had decided to come into the oak house company in disguise, he wore a face mask and kept his head low as he strode through the revolving glass doors, however just as he was about to enter the elevator he suddenly bumped into someone.

This encounter was something he would absolutely want to avoid. Kylie James' sharp and furious eyes looked at him and dusted her body quickly but when she noticed his clothes, her eyes gleamed slightly and the slight look of disgust faded from her countenance.

"Sorry, I should have been watching my steps. I hope I didn't..." She was in the middle of apologizing while touching his arm softly in a seductive manner when she looked into his eyes and recognition appeared on her face.

"You!" She suddenly pushed him away. "What are you doing here Jake Watson, didn't I fire you from this company?" She shrieked making Jake's eyes widen in surprise.
