Chapter 3

Orion hit the floor with a grunt, his toothbrush bouncing once before rolling pitifully across the cold wooden boards. His arms screamed with fiery pain as he struggled to push himself back up, bloodshot eyes glaring at nothing in particular. "This system is the absolute worst!" he screamed internally. His thoughts were a boiling mix of outrage and desperation. "What kind of garbage system forces push-ups just to earn a single measly point in Perception?" His veins bulged under the strain of each rep, a fiery heat coursing through his limbs as if his body was trying to burn away the humiliation. The Idle Evolution System, as it was mockingly named, gleefully dangled stat increases in front of him like a carrot on a stick, demanding physical suffering in return. "I swear to every deity listening," he growled, sweat dripping from his nose onto the floorboards, "one day, I'm going to program some goddamn emotional trauma into you. Just you wait, system. Just. You. Wait." The system, of course, offered no response. It didn't need to. Its smugness radiated in silence, unbothered by his threats. Twenty minutes later, after air-humping the floor with the fury of a man betrayed by his own destiny, Orion collapsed. His chest heaved as he gulped in air, and sweat slicked his body like he'd just crawled out of a river. His limbs twitched, a reminder that even lying still was now painful. Ding! The system's notification chimed brightly, at odds with the utter misery in his chest. [Side Quest Completed: +1 Perception Point Earned. Congratulations! Your suffering has paid off!] Orion glared at the words floating before him. If murderous intent could be digitized, the system would've disintegrated on the spot. Still, a part of him knew better than to fully despise the gain. As the Perception point sunk into his stats, the world around him shifted subtly but unmistakably. The morning birds outside sounded sharper, every chirp perfectly distinct from the next. The hum of distant car engines became a symphony of mechanical chaos. Even the air carried a strange clarity—a sharper sense of the space around him.

And then, there was a sound far more... distinct. Orion froze, his enhanced senses locking onto the faintest trail of what could only be described as a sultry, feminine moan. He squinted at the wall. "Moaning? This early in the morning?" His curiosity surged, mingled with suspicion. It wasn't every day you encountered such brazen noises before breakfast.

Driven by both concern and an unhealthy dose of morbid curiosity, he stood. His legs wobbled but held firm as he followed the sound down the hall, eventually stopping in front of a familiar door. Maya's door. Her door was cracked open just enough to offer a glimpse inside. Orion stopped. This was a line. No matter how ridiculous the situation might be, he wasn't the kind of guy to peep. He'd never live it down. Besides, Maya was his stepsister, and the mere thought made his stomach churn with awkwardness.

"Stand your ground!" she commanded, raising her sword high. "We can't let a single one through!"The Hunters rallied, their nervous cries mingling with the screeches of the monsters. Then, with a unified shout, they charged forward, clashing with the wave of beasts in a chaotic frenzy.— Hoshito General Hospital – Top Floor —Maya sat curled in the corner of Room 406, her knees pulled to her chest. Her body trembled as the sounds of battle reached her ears—screeches, shouts, the clash of steel against claw."What do I do...?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. Her mind raced with conflicting emotions. She had come here to find Orion, to help him, but now she was paralyzed with fear."I-I'm not ready for this," Maya stammered, burying her face in her hands. "I thought I could do it, but... I'm scared... Orion..."Tears streamed down her face as the reality of the situation sank in. She wasn't a Hunter yet. She wasn't prepared for the horrors of a Gate. But then, amidst the chaos,

Ding! [For reaching Lvl 6, you have unlocked the second system feature of the Idle Evolution System, following the Inventory Space feature.] [Unlocked 'Item Crafting'] —[Like the caveman in your blood dictates, try smacking things together to craft something superior! Return to Monkee!] "..." Orion stared at the system notification, his expression unreadable. He had grown somewhat accustomed to the system's bizarre tone, yet it still managed to catch him off guard. "Caveman... Really?" he muttered, rolling his eyes. Still, despite the system's obnoxious phrasing, the feature itself intrigued him. Item crafting wasn't something he expected to unlock this early, and the possibilities it presented could prove invaluable. Without wasting time, he decided to test it out. Following the system's instructions, he placed a Deadly Panther Nail against the staff he had been safeguarding. BAM! The two items collided, and a bright, pearlescent light erupted from the point of impact, enveloping bot

"She'll be fine," Sasha reassured, noticing her husband's preoccupied look. "Maya's tough, and she knows better than to get involved in something beyond her abilities." Adam nodded slightly, but his thoughts were elsewhere. He wasn't worried about Maya. His mind kept circling back to Orion, to the rapid changes in his 'son', and to the unease that churned in his gut like a storm brewing on the horizon. — Meanwhile, Maya Steele — Maya moved like a blur through the dark streets of Hoshito, her D+ Rank Agility propelling her faster than most cars. Streetlights flickered past in a haze, and the faces of stunned pedestrians became indistinct blurs in her periphery. Her heart pounded as the towering bluish-orange Gate came into view. It loomed over the hospital like an ominous beacon, its crackling edges sparking with uncontained energy. The sheer size of the Gate—roughly the height of a small building—made her breath catch in her throat. "It's bigger than I thought..." Maya whispered, her

    — In the Headquarters of the C-Rank Guild 'Black Sparrow' in Downtown Hoshito — "A Sudden Gate!? At Hoshito General Hospital!?" "Yes, sir! It was just reported! We have approximately twenty minutes before the first wave breaks out!" Two men in black suits, one a superior and the other a subordinate, exchanged frantic words. The superior, seated behind a cluttered desk, ran a hand through his graying hair, visibly agitated. "Of all times..." he muttered, glaring at the piles of paperwork threatening to topple over. "A Sudden Gate appears when most of our manpower is out dealing with the B-Rank Gates in Kyoto..." His voice rose sharply. "Get the newbies on the line and anyone else within range! I want them at Hoshito General Hospital NOW! They are to fend off the first few waves. Under no circumstances should they enter the Gate! Hold the line until reinforcements arrive!" "Yes, sir!" The subordinate bolted from the office, shouting orders as he sprinted through the multi-floored buildi

The first and fourth rewards were automatically received, leaving the second and third rewards for manual collection. "Makes sense," he muttered, "but couldn't this have waited until I wasn't fighting for my life?"He glanced at the two lifeless Savage Monkeys at his feet and the third green EXP bar slowly filling in his system overlay. The system's timing wasn't perfect, but it wasn't a bad deal either.'They seem slower,' he thought, gripping his remaining wooden spike. The sluggishness of the last S

"Shit!" Orion growled as his limbs felt sluggish, his body refusing to respond the way he needed. The oppressive Fear Effect from the Savage Monkeys' screeches was taking its toll, weighing him down like lead."I can't falter here," he muttered through clenched teeth, his gaze darting around the forest for anything he could use to turn the tide. But what was there to find in a forest? Trees? More trees? Moss? He cursed under his breath. What the hell am I supposed to do with moss?
