The night was beginning to wrap itself in shadows by the time Jack and Lord Leo pulled into the hospital parking lot. The city lights glinted off the sleek surface of Lord Leo’s black sedan as it came to a stop. Jack stepped out first, his boots hitting the asphalt with precision.

He scanned the area, sharp eyes taking in every detail with quiet caution, but nothing seemed immediately out of place.

Lord Leo adjusted his coat and gave Jack a sideways glance.

“Let’s make this quick.”

He muttered.

“I don’t like hospitals.”

Just then, Victor’s car rolled up behind them, engine humming low. He parked a few spots away, stepped out, and pulled the car door shut with a soft thud. His eyes swept the perimeter and that’s when he saw it.

A black SUV sat quietly near the side gate of the hospital. It was too polished and still. Leaning casually against it was a man in a white coat, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a cellphone to his ear. He wasn’t speaking much, just nodding, his eyes

Meanwhile…Across the ocean, in a dimly lit penthouse in the heart of the Aboard, the air was thick with tension. The room was opulent, its dark wood walls adorned with modern art, the faint strains of a jazz record spinning in the background. A round mahogany table dominated the center, its polished surface reflecting the soft glow of a crystal chandelier. Bobby and Brittany Stevens sat on one side, their wine glasses abandoned, their postures rigid with frustration. Across from them sat Ray, a lean man with sharp features and colder eyes, his fingers drumming impatiently on the table.Ray leaned forward, his voice cutting through the silence like a blade. “So.” He said, his tone clipped and accusing."How'd the mission go? Did your men succeed, or are we still chasing shadows?”Brittany’s eyes flashed with anger, her jaw tightening as she leaned forward, her voice sharp and biting. “Who put you in charge, Ray?” She snapped, her fingers curling into fists on the table. “Last I

“When they died… it was like the Aboard lost a piece of its soul. Jack was just a kid, barely ten years old. His sisters too,Cynthia and Sharon bright girls, full of life. It hit everyone hard, but Jack… he was shattered. I was there when the news came. I’d never seen a kid so lost.”“Mr James and I, we’d always promised to look out for each other’s families, no matter what. So when it happened, I didn’t think twice. I took Jack in, raised him as my own. He’s been family ever since.”Scott’s voice grew quieter, heavy with the weight of memory. “It wasn’t easy, you know. Jack was angry for a long time, angry at the world, at himself. But he’s got his father’s heart, his mother’s grit. I did my best to give him a home, to teach him what Mr James would’ve wanted him to know. How to stand tall, how to fight for what’s right, even when the odds are against you.”Emilia’s eyes softened, a mix of happiness and worry flickering across her face. She was happy to learn about Jack’s family, to k

Scott’s hand lingered on the doorknob, his broad shoulders tensing as Emilia’s question echoed in the quiet room. The faint glow of Turin’s skyline filtered through the large window, casting a soft, silvery light across the suite, illuminating the dark linens of the bed and the sleek contours of the desk in the corner. Scott’s weathered face softened, but his eyes remained guarded, as if wrestling with how much to reveal. He turned slowly, his boots scuffing lightly against the hardwood floor, and took a cautious step toward Emilia, who sat perched on the edge of the bed, her loose hair spilling over her shoulders, her hands still clasped tightly in her lap.“Mind if I sit?” Scott asked, his deep voice gentle but carrying a weight that matched the gravity of the moment. He gestured toward the bed, his gray-streaked hair catching the lamplight as he tilted his head slightly, his expression a mix of warmth and reluctance.Emilia’s eyes widened briefly, but she nodded quickly, scooting

Allison blinked, her eyes refocusing as if pulled from a distant memory. She forced a smile, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes, and let out a soft laugh that sounded more like a sigh. “Yeah.” She said, her voice steadier now, though the strain was still there. “That’s… yeah, that’s what happened. Jack’s family died in a crash, and my dad took him in. Been like a son to him ever since.” She nodded, as if convincing herself, her smile tightening as she met Emilia’s gaze.Emilia’s lips curved into a warm smile, her shoulders relaxing slightly. “That’s exactly what Jack told me.” She said, her voice bright with relief. “But… I guess I’m just curious. What were they like? Jack’s family, I mean. Who were they in society? Were they… important, or just regular people?” Her eyes sparkled with genuine interest, her hands clasped in front of her, her braid swaying as she leaned forward slightly.Allison’s smile froze, her eyes flickering with hesitation. She glanced away, her gaze la

Across the ocean, in the penthouse, Bobby and Brittany froze, their wine glasses clinking softly as they set them down. Bobby’s eyes widened, his jaw tightening as he recognized the voice. “Uncle Scott.” He said, his tone a mix of shock and dark amusement. “So good to hear from you. A little bird told us that our little cousin Jack Adams is still alive.” He leaned forward, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper. “Tell you what, Scott. Hand over Jack, and we’ll leave you and your daughter alone. What do you say?”Scott laughed, a deep, guttural sound that echoed through the earpiece. “Same old funny Bobby.” He said, his voice thick with disdain. “Still doing your dad’s dirty work, aren’t you?” Without waiting for a response, he crushed the earpiece under his boot, the crack of plastic sharp in the silence.Bobby’s face twisted with frustration. “Hello? Hello?” He snapped, slamming his hand on the table. Brittany’s eyes narrowed, her voice sharp. “What happened?”Bobby exh

“This… this is incredible.” She said, her gaze darting from Scott to the glowing screen, where Zulu’s interface pulsed like a living thing. “You’re really fighting a war from here, aren’t you?”Scott’s smile turned grim, his eyes glinting with a quiet intensity. “Something like that.” He said, his voice low, carrying the weight of unspoken battles. Allison stood beside him, her arms crossed, her expression a mix of pride and amusement as she watched Emilia’s reaction. But before Emilia could ask more, a soft beep sounded from one of the monitors, and Zulu’s voice cut through the room again, sharp and urgent. “Alert: unauthorized movement detected in sector seven. Surveillance feed indicates multiple armed individuals approaching the perimeter.” The screen shifted, displaying grainy footage of dark figures moving through the shadows, their silhouettes unmistakable against the glow of Turin’s skyline.Scott’s face hardened, his hand instinctively reaching for the pistol at his hip
