Chapter 1
Chapter 1.
“Stab wound! Hurry!”
A man shouted as he jumped out of a car that had stopped abruptly in front of the emergency room entrance. Two medical staff immediately rushed toward the back door of the black car.
Flashes of lightning occasionally split the sky, illuminating the nearly deserted street. Amid the pouring rain, a young man was carried out of the car and transferred onto a stretcher. His clothes were soaked by the rain, but nearly the entire front of his body was covered in blood.
“Blood pressure, eighty over fifty!”
“His pulse is weak!”
“Take him to the resuscitation room now!”
The voices came one after another.
Damian Blackwood could barely open his eyes. His vision was blurred, and the faces around him seemed to spin while the hospital lights felt painfully bright.
He wanted to ask where he was, but his throat was dry, and his body refused to obey him.
Yet one thing remained perfectly clear in his mind.
Celine.
The woman he had loved for five years.
The woman who had stood before him just hours ago with a knife in her hand.
Damian still remembered how it had all begun.
He had returned home early that night because he wanted to surprise her. A few days earlier, he had even prepared a ring. He had planned to propose to Celine after dinner.
Instead, he was the one who received a surprise.
It was not a ring that welcomed him, but betrayal. Celine was being intimate with a man he knew as his best friend. On their bed.
The people he had trusted all this time had slowly taken control of his company. His shares had been transferred. His bank accounts had been frozen. Several of his assets had been sold without his knowledge.
And Celine...
Celine was the one who had done all of it, while the man beside her merely smiled with a towel wrapped around his waist, holding Celine in his arms as they looked like this was far from their first affair.
“Damian,” the woman’s voice still echoed in his ears, “you were too easy to trust.”
At that moment, Damian could not even believe his own eyes.
“Why?”
That was the only question that had escaped his lips.
Celine had merely smiled.
“Because you thought your money could make everyone love you.”
Then the knife had plunged swiftly into his heart.
Damian had never imagined that the person he most wanted to marry would be the very person who wanted to kill him.
If only he had known...
If only he had realized everything sooner...
Perhaps tonight would not have ended like this.
“Sir, stay conscious!”
The doctor’s voice pulled him back.
“The stab wound is quite deep. It has reached the right side of the heart. We need to operate immediately.”
Damian tried to move his head.
“The company...”
The doctor did not understand him.
“What?”
“Blackwood Group...”
His voice was barely audible.
The doctor simply assumed the patient was delirious.
“Don’t talk for now. Save your strength.”
Damian closed his eyes.
Blackwood Group.
Once, that name had been a symbol of his power.
At twenty-nine years old, he had become the owner of one of the largest companies in the country. He had a luxurious house, cars, shares, investments, and everything money could buy.
But tonight, none of it belonged to him anymore.
Even if he managed to leave this hospital alive, he did not know whether there was still a home he could return to.
No company. No wealth. No power either, and the woman he loved most had betrayed him.
“Doctor!”
A nurse hurried into the room.
“The blood bank doesn’t have any B-negative blood in stock.”
The doctor immediately turned around.
“What? Find a donor. As quickly as possible.”
Damian heard the conversation.
B-negative.
The same blood type as his.
He almost laughed.
Back when he had still been the Young Master of the Blackwood family, he had never imagined that one day his life would depend on a few bags of blood.
Now, even blood felt like something he could no longer obtain.
Suddenly, a commotion came from the room next door.
“Doctor, the patient over there has lost a lot of blood!”
“What’s his blood type?”
“B-negative as well.”
The doctor sighed.
“How old is he?”
“Seventy-two years old. His condition is extremely critical.”
An old man? For some reason, he continued listening.
“Find another donor,” the doctor said. “This patient needs blood himself as well.”
Several seconds passed then Damian spoke softly, “Use my blood.”
The doctor immediately turned toward him. “You?”
“My blood... give it to him.”
“No.”
The doctor stepped closer.
“You’ve already lost a great deal of blood yourself. If we take blood from you now, your condition could worsen.”
“Am I not already as good as dead? I’ve lost everything.” Damian swallowed. Every breath felt painful.
“If I survive, I don’t even know what I’m supposed to live for.”
The doctor fell silent. “Don’t think like that. We’re going to save you.”
“I’m not asking you to let me die. I just want my blood to be given to someone who needs it more.”
“Sir—”
“Just do it.” Damian voice was not loud. Perhaps that was precisely why the doctor finally fell silent.
There was a weariness too deep in the young man’s eyes. As if everything that had once given him a reason to live had collapsed in a single night.
“Doctor, the patient next door is already unable to hold on. We have to do something immediately...”
Finally, the doctor gave the order.
“Take 200 cc from this patient, no more. But monitor his condition continuously.”
A tube was attached.
Damian’s blood slowly flowed out of his body.
Strangely, he was not afraid.
For the first time since that night had begun, his mind felt completely at peace.
He no longer thought about Celine.
He did not think about the company.
He did not think about the money that had been taken from him.
He only thought of one simple thing.
At least... his blood could still save someone.
A few minutes later, the blood was taken to the room next door.
The old man there immediately received the transfusion.
Meanwhile, Damian’s condition continued to deteriorate.
“His blood pressure is dropping again!”
“Quick, prepare a transfusion!”
“I’m sorry, sir. The blood bag hasn’t arrived at the hospital yet!”
“The patient is losing consciousness!”
Damian heard the voices growing farther and farther away.
His eyelids felt unbearably heavy.
Yet just as he was about to lose consciousness, he heard a faint chuckle from the room next door.
“Hehehe...”
Damian opened his eyes.
The sound seemed strange amid the panic of the doctors.
He turned his head slightly.
The medical staff also turned at the same time.
The old man who had just received his blood had opened his eyes.
His face was pale, but there was a smile on it.
The old man looked at Damian from the bed next to him.
“Young man...”
Damian blinked. “Don’t thank me. You needed it.”
“Your blood...” The old man chuckled softly. “It’s quite valuable.”
Damian almost smiled. His gaze remained empty and devoid of spirit.
“It’s useless now.”
The old man shook his head.
“Precisely because you gave it when you needed it yourself... that blood became extremely valuable.”
Damian did not understand.
The old man stared at him for quite some time.
As if he were making sure of something.
“You know...” he said softly, “I’ve been waiting for someone like you.”
“Waiting?”
Before Damian could ask anything more, the monitor beside the old man suddenly began to beep.
BEEEEEP!
“Doctor!”
“The patient is in cardiac arrest!”
Several nurses immediately rushed into the room.
Damian could only watch from a distance as the old man’s body was treated by the medical team.
But before his eyes completely closed, he saw the old man smile.
It was not the smile of someone facing death.
It was the smile of someone who had finally found what he had been searching for all this time.
Then, suddenly, an unfamiliar voice sounded inside Damian’s head.
Ding!
The sound had not come from the monitor.
It had not come from the doctors.
It had not come from anywhere he could see.
<Heir candidate has been found.>
Damian froze.
<Inheritance requirements have been fulfilled.>
<Selfless good deed detected.>
<Good Deed System is initiating transfer.>
“What...?”
Damian was truly confused. Then the mechanical voice sounded again.
<Transfer complete.>
<Good Deed System successfully activated.>
On the bed next to him, the old man’s monitor finally turned into a straight line.
The doctor tried to save him, but moments later, the doctor slowly shook his head.
The old man was gone.
Meanwhile, Damian remained lying there, struggling to maintain consciousness.
Then the system delivered its final message.
<Inheritance successful.>
<Beginner reward is being prepared.>
<Welcome, last heir.>
<Starting tonight, your life will change.>
<Host: Damian>
<Good Deed Points: 100 points>
<Good deed detected: Donated blood to another patient while Host was in critical condition.>
<Evaluation: High sacrifice.>
<Intent: Selfless.>
"Good Deed... What?"
Then everything went dark.

The transparent blue screen flickered before Damian’s eyes.Damian’s eyes immediately lit up.“Then let me buy shares.”Damian rubbed his chin and thought for a moment.“What companies can I buy?”The system displayed several names, along with their current share prices and financial conditions.Damian scanned through them carefully.There were several profitable companies, but none of them caught his attention.Then his eyes stopped on one particular company.It was a shopping mall that had been struggling for years.Its revenue had continued to decline, its debts were piling up, and several major tenants had already left. Based on its current condition, most investors would consider buying its shares a terrible decision.Damian, however, smiled.“I want this one.”“Why?”
