The robotic voice of the machine echoed through the dead silence.
"Available balance: Unlimited."
Julian Sterling’s eyes bulged. He stumbled backward, knocking his own chair over.
"F-Fake!" Julian shrieked, his voice cracking like dry wood. "It's an electronic trick! Larson, you idiot, stand up! He hacked your machine with a phone virus! A beggar who picks up dirty plates can't have two hundred thousand dollars, let alone unlimited credit!"
Trenton Hayes wiped a smear of cold soup from his cheek, his teeth grinding so hard they clicked.
"Julian is right," Trenton barked, his face twisting in fury. "Do you know who I am? Hayes Logistics owns a twenty percent stake in this hotel chain! Larson, if you don't call the police right now and throw this fraud out, I will have your job by sunrise!"
Manager Larson did not stand up. He kept his forehead pressed close to the cold marble, his hands still trembling as he presented the black card back to Caleb.
"Young Master Hayes..." Larson’s voice was barely a whisper. "The Apex system cannot be hacked. This terminal connects directly to the Central Sovereign Reserve. It is... impossible to forge."
"Bullshit!" Trenton roared.
He lunged forward, kicking a broken glass away, and pointed a shaking finger at Caleb’s chest.
"I don't care what toy you bought on the dark web, Caleb. You struck me! You struck the heir of Hayes Logistics! In Riverdale, money talks, but power decides who lives. My four guards were just personal escorts. Outside this door, I have twenty armed men from the Iron Fist brotherhood!"
Vivian gasped, her face draining of color. "Trenton, this is an official Sterling banquet. You wouldn't dare bring street thugs inside—"
"I dare do whatever I want to your husband!" Trenton sneered, his eyes wild. "He broke my dignity. Tonight, he leaves in an ambulance. And you, Vivian—after I crush your little cosmetic company tomorrow, you'll crawl into my bed whether you like it or not!"
Caleb took his black card from Larson's trembling hands and slid it calmly into his denim jacket.
He didn't yell. He didn't look flustered. His voice was steady, like deep ice.
"Larson."
"Y-Yes, My Lord?" Larson stammered from the floor.
"Who owns the Grand Regal Hotel chain?" Caleb asked quietly.
"The... the Regal International Hospitality Group, sir," Larson replied instantly. "The Hayes family owns twenty percent. The controlling eighty percent belongs to the Apex Consortium’s Asian investment branch."
Trenton burst out laughing, though his laugh was shaky. "So what? Apex is a global giant based in Switzerland and New York! You think some homeless son-in-law in Riverdale can tell Apex what to do?"
Right then, Manager Larson’s private emergency radio chirped on his belt.
Then his personal phone rang with the unique high-priority ringtone reserved only for the Board of Directors.
Larson scrambled to hit speakerphone with shaking thumbs.
A sharp, authoritative voice filled the ballroom:
"Vincent Larson! This is regional headquarters. As of thirty seconds ago, Apex Global executed an emergency buyout of the remaining twenty percent minority shares held by the Hayes family. The transaction is complete. The Hayes family has zero equity in our establishments worldwide."
Trenton’s laughter died in his throat. "W-What? That's impossible! My father would never sell—"
The voice on the phone cut him off with razor-sharp coldness:
"A margin call was triggered on the Hayes foreign accounts. Their shares were liquidated at market bottom. Furthermore, Lord Caleb Vance has been confirmed as the sole executive director of the entire property network. Any orders from Chairman Vance override all previous company protocols."
Click.
The line went dead.
The entire ballroom felt like an open freezer.
Old Madam Sterling gripped her gold cane so hard her knuckles turned chalk white. Julian looked like he had just swallowed a live frog.
Vivian turned her head slowly, looking at Caleb. For three years, this man had brought her warm tea when she worked late, ironed her suits without a word of complaint, and slept on the narrow fold-out couch in the guest room.
Who was standing beside her?
Caleb walked two steps forward. The ballroom guests parted like the sea, terrified to stand in his path.
He stopped two inches from Trenton Hayes.
Trenton tried to stand tall, but his knees were visibly wobbling. The arrogance had completely drained from his face, replaced by a raw, suffocating dread.
"You said... money talks in Riverdale?" Caleb asked softly.
Trenton swallowed hard, his throat dry. "C-Caleb... let's talk. We don't have to take it this far. My father has connections with the city council—"
"Julian," Caleb said, not even turning his head toward the cousin.
Julian flinched like a whipped dog. "Y-Yes?"
"You said earlier that people like me shouldn't breathe the same air as your grandmother." Caleb looked at the puddle of spilled wine and soup Trenton had created. "Clean it up."
"W-What?" Julian stammered. "Me? Clean the floor?"
"With your jacket," Caleb said.
Julian looked at Old Madam Sterling for help, but the old woman deliberately looked away, staring down at her napkin. She was a survivor; she knew when the tide had turned.
"Clean it, or leave Riverdale tonight with nothing but the shirt on your back," Caleb’s voice was as cold as a grave.
Julian began to shake. Whimpering, he stripped off his three-thousand-dollar designer suit jacket, fell to his hands and knees, and began frantically wiping up the greasy duck broth from the floor.
Caleb turned back to Trenton.
"As for you," Caleb said, his gaze piercing through Trenton’s eyes. "You mentioned twenty men outside?"
Manager Larson scrambled to his feet, bowing low at Caleb’s side. "Chairman Vance! Two hundred elite Apex security personnel have just sealed every exit of the Grand Regal. The thugs outside have already been disarmed and handed over to federal authorities."
Trenton’s legs finally gave out. He fell backward onto the floor beside Julian.
"Caleb... please," Trenton whispered, raising his hands in defeat. "I was wrong. I'll cancel the debt! I'll forgive the forty million dollars right now!"
"Forgive it?"
Caleb looked down at him with pure disdain.
"You don't understand, Trenton. Tomorrow at noon, Sterling Cosmetics won't owe you forty million. By tomorrow at noon, Hayes Logistics won't even exist."
Caleb turned around and looked at Vivian. His expression softened slightly, losing its murderous chill.
"Let's go home, Vivian," Caleb said quietly. "The party is over."
Vivian stood frozen for two seconds before nodding numbly. She walked beside him, her heart beating like a war drum against her ribs.
As they reached the heavy oak doors, Caleb’s burner phone vibrated in his palm with a high-priority text message from Butler Adler.
Caleb glanced down at the screen.
The text was short, but every word burned into his eyes:
[Alert: Medical Decoy Hospital breached. Your sister Liviana's tracking signal just went live from the Provincial Blackwood docks. A sniper has targeted your car on the North Bridge.]

The Capital’s Decree
The rain over Mount Valen felt like ice needles, but the voice through the satellite receiver was even colder."A blood-feud?" Caleb asked, his tone level as he stared into the dark valley below.A dry, arrogant chuckle echoed through the line."Did you think a backwater city like Riverdale was big enough to hold the secrets of the Sterling bloodline? Vivian's mother carried something that belongs to the Valerius Clan of the Imperial Capital. As of ten minutes ago, the Clan Council issued an Imperial Extraction Decree. Fifty enforcers are already surrounding the Sterling family manor.""Who are you?" Caleb demanded."I am Dominic Valerius, Third Regent of the Imperial Clan. If you want your little wife to see the morning sun, bring the jade heirloom to the Riverdale docks before three in the morning. Come with an army, and we will slit her throat before your boots touch the pier."Click.The line went dead.Caleb lowered the satellite phone. The glass screen cracked under the sudden f

The armored convoy tore through the rain, crossing the provincial border into Valenreach at over a hundred miles per hour.Inside the cabin, Caleb stared at the surveillance photograph on the tablet screen. The woman in the black ballistic armor had the same jawline, the same narrow eyes, and the same slight tilt of the head as the little girl who used to tug on his sleeve fifteen years ago. But her stance was cold, predatory, and lethal."She has no recollection of her past," Marcus reported, his voice low against the hum of the engine. "Our intelligence indicates the Blackwood Syndicate subjected her to chemical neural wipes every six months. In their ranks, she is known only as Commander Viper—the undefeated enforcer of the northern underground."Caleb closed the tablet. His fingers tightened until the plastic casing creaked."Lord Blackwood didn't take Helena Sterling to extort money," Caleb said, his voice flat. The boardroom plunged into absolute chaos."Taken?" Vivian gasped, her phone slipping from her fingers and clattering against the mahogany table. "My mother... taken by who?"Nobody answered her. The board directors were staring at the television screen mounted on the wall. Live news footage showed the high-rise glass headquarters of Hayes Logistics at the Riverdale Port surrounded by federal tactical teams, emergency sirens painting the morning sky red.The company was finished. Julian shrieked, his eyes bloodshot. "You can't prove anything! This is forged!"Caleb didn't even shift his stance. He brought his right hand down like a descending iron guillotine, slamming his open palm directly onto Julian’s reaching wrist.Crack! The bone in Julian’s arm splintered. Juli
Boardroom Ambush
The morning sun cut through the rain clouds over Riverdale, but inside the Sterling Cosmetics headquarters, the air was as cold as a morgue.Vivian Sterling sat at the head of the conference table, dark circles bruised beneath her eyes. She hadn't slept a minute in the hotel penthouse. Across from her, twenty board directors and family elders sat with crossed arms, whispering like vultures waiting for a carcass.Julian Sterling leaned back in his leather chair, a smug grin plastered across his face. He wore a fresh silk tie, pretending the humiliation of wiping duck soup off the hotel floor with his jacket had never happened."It's nine in the morning, Vivian," Julian announced, tapping his gold pen against the mahogany table. "The banks opened an hour ago. Hayes Logistics filed the debt consolidation claim at eight sharp. Where is the forty million dollars?"Vivian tightened her fists under the table until her knuckles went white. "Trenton Hayes manipulated the maturity date. That lo
