Chapter 8. The First Great Battle
The sky above the bridge to the Capital was a deep, heavy gray, as if the clouds themselves were horrified by what was about to unfold. Kael ran with lungs that felt like they were on fire, each step pounding against the cold asphalt of the granite bridge. Below him, the rushing river roared, reflecting flashes of light from the lightning that had begun to strike.
At the end of the bridge, a dark procession moved forward. The black iron carriage carrying his mother was escorted by hundreds of shadow soldiers who looked like solidified smoke. And at the very front of the line, the figure in the black robe and silver mask stood calmly. The Shadow Sovereign.
"Stop!"
Kael’s voice echoed, cutting through the haunting silence. He stood alone in the middle of that vast bridge, his breath coming in gasps, yet his eyes burned with a fire that would never go out. He had seen the map. He knew his mother was not merely a prisoner, but the key to ending humanity.
The Shadow Sovereign halted his steps. He did not signal his troops to attack. He simply stood there, as if Kael’s arrival was a small entertainment he had already anticipated.
"You escaped from prison only to die here?" the Sovereign’s voice sounded like a cold whisper crawling across the surface of the river water. "Your courage outweighs your common sense, Kael."
"Release my mother," Kael hissed. "Or I will burn every inch of this road until there is no darkness left."
The Sovereign gave a short laugh, a dry sound devoid of emotion. "Fire is will, as I said last night. Show me how great your will is to fight the destiny already written in the stars."
Kael closed his eyes for a moment. He felt a hot vibration in the pit of his stomach, but this time he did not try to hold it back. He remembered the scorched Eldara Village, the wounded face of Guru Selama, and the map of the apocalypse plan he now kept hidden against his chest. The fear was still there, but he used it as fuel.
Burn everything, he commanded his own blood.
Kael spread both his arms. An orange aura began to envelop his body, but the color slowly shifted into a blinding gold. The ground beneath his feet began to crack, releasing plumes of high-rising steam. The air around the bridge suddenly became so hot that the river water below began to evaporate.
"Conqueror Technique... Sea of Eternal Fire!"
Kael slammed both palms onto the granite floor of the bridge. The explosion did not shoot straight out. Instead, the fire erupted from within the ground, forming a massive wave ten meters high that swept across the entire width of the bridge. It was not a mere spark; it was a wall of pure destruction.
Hundreds of shadow soldiers vanished instantly, turning to ash before they could even draw their swords. The sound of their screams was drowned out by the deafening roar of the flames. Kael screamed, every vein in his neck straining as he forced every drop of his energy to push the wave of fire toward the Shadow Sovereign.
For a few seconds, the bridge looked like a sun falling to earth. Kael saw the wall of fire swallow the silver-masked figure. Hope swelled in his chest. It worked. I did it!
However, as the smoke began to thin, that hope was shattered into pieces.
The Shadow Sovereign was still standing in the exact same position. He had only raised one hand, and around him, a bubble of dense darkness had repelled all of Kael’s fire. Not a single corner of his robe was scorched. Not a single crack appeared on his silver mask.
"Is that all?" The Sovereign stepped forward, walking through the remnants of the fire still crawling on the ground. "A technique that drains your entire life just to blow out a few candles?"
Kael fell to his knees, gasping for air. His vision blurred, and his hands shook violently. He felt hollow. His strongest attack, something that should have been able to tear down a fortress, had failed to even scratch his enemy. This defeat felt more bitter than the black root poison that had once paralyzed him.
"You have potential, Kael. But you are fighting in the wrong league." The Sovereign was now right in front of Kael. He lifted the young man's chin with the tip of his cold, black finger. "You think this is a war between humans? You think I am just a power-hungry sorcerer?"
Kael tried to spit, but his mouth was too dry. "You... you’re just a monster in a mask."
The Sovereign leaned down, his silver face reflecting Kael’s broken shadow. "I am the bridge for those who have long been forgotten. You cannot defeat fire with fire, especially if your fire comes from a source already contaminated by weak human hope."
The Sovereign released Kael’s chin and turned, looking toward the sky which was now split by unnatural flashes of purple light.
"This world must die so it can be reborn in the perfection of nothingness. And I am not working alone," the Sovereign whispered. His voice was now filled with a terrifying pride. "Who do you think gave you that map in the prison? Who do you think allowed you to escape?"
Kael was stunned. He intentionally let me go?
"I need you here, Kael. Because your pure fire is the final ingredient needed to summon my true allies." The Sovereign spread his arms to the sky. "Welcome those who have been waiting behind the curtain of stars. The Dark Gods who thirst for light."
Suddenly, the sky above the Capital shattered. A giant black hole opened, and from within it emerged massive hands made of dense void energy. The gravitational pressure in that place increased a thousandfold, crushing Kael’s body until he fell face-first into the ground.
"This ritual is not for me," the Sovereign said, pointing toward the hole in the sky. "This ritual is an offering for the Dark Gods. And your mother is the vessel, while your fire... your fire is the beacon that calls them home."
Kael stared at the sky with pure horror. He had just realized that every step he took, every blast of fire he released, had only accelerated the destruction of the world he wanted to save. He sobbed, tears falling onto the granite that was still hot. He was alone, helpless, and realized that the hero he imagined himself to be was merely a pawn in the game of the gods.
"Welcome to the end of days, Kael," the Sovereign said in a tone that was almost gentle. "Watch as your world becomes a feast for my masters."

The power of his "fire of will," which now shone brightly, was no longer merely a shield; it had become a source of fertility. He was often seen in the fields beyond the city walls, not with a sword or weapon, but with bare hands. He would touch the soil that had once withered under the touch of the Nothingness, close his eyes, and channel the warmth from within. Slowly, new green shoots would break the surface, dry earth would grow moist, and life would bloom once more. It was not a spectacular magic, but a subtle process of healing—a reminder that true power often lies in the ability to nurture, not destroy. The farmers, initially hesitant, now looked upon him with awe and gratitude. they saw how barre

He had spent days studying these texts, trying to grasp the essence of the "Fire of Life and the Fire of Will" that had now become his strength. He was no longer Kael the Fire Conqueror, the hero burdened by a devastating power. He was Kael, the Guardian of Will. His strength no longer originated from an external fire that burned, but from an internal flame that illuminated. A fire born of love, hope, and resolve. But what were its limits? How strongly could this "Fire of Will" hold out against the eternal Nothingness?Dr. Elara, despite her advanced age, remained spirited in her research. She had discovered more details on how the Guardians of Light once used the Fire of Life to hold back the Nothingness—not with destructive force, bu

Before him stood The Stopper, the god of pure fire, now liberated from the clutches of the Nothingness. His figure towered high, no longer terrifying, but radiating an aura of soothing warmth and pure power. His eyes, which had once flared red with rage, now glowed softly like the rising sun."You... have freed me," The Stopper’s voice echoed, no longer through the resonance of the vacuum, but through a voice full of strength and warmth, as if carrying the very energy of creation. "Your fire of will... has reignited the spark of life."Kael looked at The Stopper, his heart filled with an immense sense of relief. He had succeeded. Though he had nearly vanished, he had managed to decouple the fire god from the void. CHAPTER 55: Battle at the Heart of the VoidKael staggered to his feet, the Crystal of Clarity in his hand emitting a dim but steady silvery-blue light. The piercing cold that had nearly erased him began to recede, replaced by a gentle yet potent warmth from the crystal. The giant shadow of the Nothingness hissed before him, its hollow red eyes glaring at the crystal as if disturbed by such pure light."You... found... it..." The voice of the Nothingness rasped in Kael's mind—no longer a whisper, but a hiss filled with hatred and disbelief. It was as if the crystal were an impossibility, an anomaly in its plan of total erasure.Kael raised the Crystal of Clarity high. The silvery-blue light began to shine brighter, reflecting off the carvings on the shattered remains of the seal's structure. His fire of will, which had almost been extinguished, began to pulse once more, bolstered by the crystal's pure energy. "I will not let you erase everything!" Kael cried out, his voice ringing wit
