Caden left Karl’s office , his eyes glancing over his shoulders every now and then.

Melody was right, he's been acting strange these past few days. He had even told him off that night he was at their house.

Karl never disagrees with him. By now, when his proposal to Anna had failed and his attempt to make Melody jealiys look stupid, he would have called him and asked what to do.

He would be scrambling to figure out how to get Melody back and that worry is often lined on his face.

But right now, Karl looked…very well. He was well dressed for the first time, well fractionally even. That's…very unlike his friend.

And there was something unsettling about the way his friend looked at him. Like he knew something.

Cadem shook his head and clenched his fist. That's not possible. He and Melody had been extremely careful about their plan.

There's no way he could have known what they were planning.

Or was there?

Instead of his office, Caden made a turn down the hallway, heading for Melody's office.

Melody’s office door came into view, and his steps quickened. He knocked lightly and waited

“Come in,” Melody said.

He stepped in, closing the door gently behind him.

Her eyes met his in an instant, “Tell me you were able to convince him.”

He walked deeper into the office, “I just spoke with Karl. He’ll work on the Leon project,” he said.

Melody exhaled like she's been holding her breath all day. “Thank Goodness.” She muttered.” I was worried he would ruin this for us.”

Caden chuckled, “He won't. We've worked too hard for his tantrums to ruin our plans.”

Melody nodded, leaning back in her seat. “I know but he's going so far with whatever this is.” She exhaled, “Like he told me he wanted out if the pitch and I was so confused. Is he trying to punish me?” she groaned, "I'm so done with him!”

“You're right." Caden replied, leaning casually against the edge of her desk, watching her. “He is acting a bit strange.”

Melody froze. Her pulse quickened at the words, her hand tightening around her pen. “He is?"

Caden nodded, “I think so. I don't know what exactly it is but he does act differently..”

Melody gasped as a thought occurred to her. She glanced at Caden whispering, “Do you think he knows?”

Caden went silent, his thoughts running through the possibility of Karl knowing what they were up to.

“I don't think so.” He said,”if he did, the smart thing to do would be to leave or confront us.”

Melody's eyes flickered from one end of the room to another, brows furrowed.

“There's no way he knows.” She said, “We've been careful.”

Caden nodded. “He's trying to get forum attention. That is what this is.”

Melody nods but deep down, she wasn't convinced.

Caden leans closer, “Don't worry about it. We can fix this.”

Melody’s eyes narrowed, suspicion flashing across her face. “And how exactly are we going to ‘fix’ this?”

Caden stepped closer. “By making sure Karl does what he’s supposed to do. We’ll get him married to you in a month. Then Allure becomes yours once we get rid of him.”

Her gaze flicked to him, the worry still lined her face, “And you’re sure about this?” she asked.

Caden smiled, closing the distance between them. His fingers brushed hers lightly as he reached for her hand, lacing it through his.

“Sure? Melody, I’ve been sure since the day he showed interest in you in college. Don’t let his little rebellion get to you. That's what he wants.”

Melody exhaled as she shut her eyes. He was right, Karl was only trying to get into her head. She shouldn't let him.

“You… you always know how to calm me down,” she whispered, a nervous laugh escaping her lips.

Caden’s smile widened.

“I do, don’t I?” he murmured, his voice low.

His other hand moved up, brushing a stray strand of hair from her cheek, letting his fingers linger there for a moment.

Her breathing hitched as he leaned in, “Caden…” she started, her voice low.

“Shh,” he said softly, pressing a finger to her lips, brushing them. “Relax. Let me take care of you for a moment.”

Her body responded to him before he even touched her. He got closer, cupped her face and kissed her lips. He moved slowly, and enough for her to ease into his arms like she always does.

His hand left her chin and went down to her assistant, fingers digging into the softness of it all.

Melody moaned like the hungry, sex starved woman he knew. He pulled her closer and lifted her off the ground before settling her on the desk, her legs parted for him.

Caden smirked. She wouldn't even let Karl touch her and yet, here she was, already pleading with her eyes like her life defended on it.

Of course she was. She was his bitch lately.

He kissed her again, cupping her breast against the shirt and earning a moan from her. He didn't even need to do too much to arouse her.

That was the interesting part about fucking her.

They'd done it everywhere. The living area, the kitchen, in her room, in Karl's room and on his bed.. even in the office right before she heads home with Karl..

Heck, he'd fucked her in the bathroom cubicle while Karl was right outside but he hadn't noticed.

His hands slipped under her skirt and yanked down her panties, she was so wet and ready for him. His fingers slipped in gently, earning a moment from her as his kisses deepened.

This was what Karl wanted all to himself? That greedy bastard. Does he really think a beautiful and sexy woman like Melody deserved someone like him?

Caden doubted he had the stamina to fuck her right and yet he claimed to be her boyfriend. Unbelievable.

“Spread them.” He ordered and she obeyed, pulling up her skirt to her waist and leaning back for him to get a better view.

He undid his belt and pulled her closer to thrust into her. She moaned again, shamelessly trembling under his arms.

And then…

The door swung open and the duo froze.

Karl stood there..

The private lounge sat at the top level of the building, away from the noise of the main floors below. Melody paused briefly at the entrance, Zach and sent her a text the night before, asking if he could meet her here. The air carried the scent of expensive cologne and clean water, and the hum of the filtration system from the indoor pool filled the silence. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels framed the pool area. Her heels clicked softly against the polished floor as she walked further in.She had chosen her outfit with intention. She and Zach have made it this far, it's only fair they take things a bit further. Her hair fell over her shoulders, and the light gloss on her lips caught just enough light to stand out without being obvious. Her dress was ridiculously short that danced in the air as she walked. Her eyes finally caught Zach in the pool.He leaned back against the edge, one arm resting along the tiled surface, his other hand dragging lazily through the water as if he had b

Anna sat alone on one of the chairs outside the operating room. Her hands were clasped tightly together in her lap, her fingers interlocked tightly. She hadn’t realized she was doing it until a dull ache settled into her knuckles, but even then, she didn’t loosen her grip. The red light above the operating room door remained on.Her eyes kept drifting back to it, as though staring long enough would somehow make it turn off sooner. The past few hours had been a blur and not a single person had sent a smile or a reassuring look her way. Jules hadn’t said much before they took him in. He had tried to smile for her, the same way he always did when he knew she was worried. It hadn’t reached his eyes. He was supposed to get his heart transplant today and for some reason, despite the doctors constant reassurances, Anna felt anxious. She shifted in her seat, her shoulders tense, her gaze dropping to the floor for a moment before lifting again almost immediately.Footsteps approached from t

  • Chapter 42: Caden's Plight

Caden arrived at the house just past seven in the evening, the sky already dimming over the neighborhood at the end of a long day. His car came to a stop in front of the gate, engine humming softly before he switched it off.His hands stayed on the steering wheel, his jaw tight, his thoughts still lingering on everything that had gone wrong over the past few days. Work had been tense and Melody had been distant. His grip tightened briefly before he exhaled and pushed the thought away. He stepped out of the car, straightened his jacket, and walked toward the house. The front door was unlocked. He pushed it open and stepped inside. The living room lights were on and the scent of food lingered faintly in the air. Melody’s mother, Sara, sat on the couch, flipping through a magazine, while her father, Jay, sat nearby with his reading glasses perched low on his nose, focused on a document in his hands.Neither of them greeted him.Caden paused just inside the doorway, eyes moving from o

  • Chapter 41: Board Game

Karl stood by the glass wall of his loft, hands in his pocket. Morning had come and gone, yet he had not moved from that spot for longer than he cared to admit. His reflection stared back at him faintly against the glass, expression unreadable. The memory of the night before still lingered. Anna’s face, the uncertainty in her eyes, the way she had looked at him like he was nothing more than a stranger she had made a reckless decision with. That part had been expected and yet it did not sit as easily as he had assumed it would. And then there was his offer. Karl exhaled slowly, his fingers pressing lightly against the surface of the glass. It had been an impulsive offer. On what grounds was he even making that offer? Hell, he shouldn’t be dragging her into this, fooling her and playing hero at the same time. His jaw tightened slightly, that was unlike him and he knew exactly what that meant even though he didn't want to put a name on it..A slow knock came on his door and he turned

  • Chapter 40: Falling Deep

Melody leaned back into the cushioned chair as the attendant finished her manicure, her gaze drifting lazily across the polished interior. She was at the spa, anything to get away from Caden and his intrusive questions. He was starting to irritate her if she was being honest. Her phone lay face down beside her . For once, she did not want to think about anyone but herself like she's always done. The attendant’s soft voice pulled her back. “You’re all set, ma’am.”Melody gave a small nod, glancing down at her nails before offering a dismissive look. “Better than the last time.”She rose from her seat, smoothing down her outfit as she moved toward the relaxation lounge. The large windows allowed sunlight to spill into the room. A few other guests sat quietly with drinks in hand, absorbed in their own thoughts.Melody reached for a glass of infused water and took a slow sip, letting the coolness calm her.A message notification lit up her screen from Zach. Her thumb hovered over it f

  • Chapter 39: The Offer

Anna did not answer him immediately.“Be my fiancée.”Anna stared at him, her mind struggling to make sense of the current situation. Had she imagined it? Him? A man who is clearly in the same league with a family as big as Gordon, asked her to be his fiancee? “You can’t be serious,” she said finally.Karl did not move. “I am.”Anna let out a quiet breath, turning away from him as she ran a hand through her hair. The room suddenly felt too small. “This is insane,” she muttered. “You? With me?” Karl watched her , eyes following her every movement like iris was the most interesting thing in the world. “Why not uou?” He asked, “Drom what ive gathered, youre a pretty decent lady..” Anna turned back to face him, disbelief written clearly across her face.“You don’t even know me,” she said.“I know enough.”Her lips parted slightly, but no words came out. For a moment she simply stared at him, searching for some sign that this was a joke, that there was something she had misunderstood.
