The afternoon sun filtered through the moss-covered roof of the old hut. Aurelius sat on the wooden floor with his knights spread around him. They looked like what they were - desperate fugitives with nowhere left to run.
"We need to talk about what comes next," Sir Garrett said. His weathered face was grim. "Victor won't give up hunting us." "What I still don't understand," Sir Roland said, rubbing his temples in frustration, "is how he managed all this. The timing was fucking perfect." "Real perfect," Sir Edmund agreed. "We were supposed to leave for the eastern border yesterday. That supply mix-up was what kept us here long enough." Sir Bradley's eyes narrowed. "You think that was also planned? We leaving for the eastern border?" "Had to be," Sir Garrett said slowly. "Think about it. How many First Order knights were in the palace yesterday? Just us ten." Sir William counted on his fingers. "Sir Marcus said the rest were all on assignment. Border patrols mostly. Said Victor had been sending them out for weeks." "The Paladins too," Sir Thomas added. "Half of them left on pilgrimage to the northern shrines last week. Never seen that many leave at once." Aurelius felt cold understanding wash over him. As Commander, he should have noticed the pattern. Should have questioned why so many loyal forces were being moved away from the capital. "He planned this for months," Aurelius said quietly. "Got rid of anyone who might have stopped him." "That's why we escaped so easily," Sir Joseph realized almost cursing out loud. "The palace should have been crawling with guards. Instead, we fought maybe thirty men total." "Where was everyone else?" Sir James asked. "Border duty," Sir Philip said grimly. "Emergency assignments to investigate demon raids. All perfectly reasonable orders." "Until you add them up," Seraphina said from her corner. She'd been quiet for most of the day. "Then it looks like exactly what it was - clearing the board before making your move." The weight of Victor's planning settled on them. He'd spent months positioning pieces like a chess master. "We're all that's left in the capital," Sir Garrett said heavily. "The rest of the First Order is scattered across the kingdom." "Or dead," Sir Edmund said grimly. "Victor's had time to deal with isolated groups." The conversation died as they realized how thoroughly they'd been outmaneuvered. Ten knights against an entire kingdom. "What about succession?" Sir James asked. He was the youngest, barely twenty. "With the king dead, what happens now?" "Regency," Sir Philip answered. As the oldest knight, he knew palace law. "Victor will claim to rule until a proper heir can be found." "But there is no heir," Sir Roland pointed out. "The king never married." "Exactly," Sir Edmund said bitterly. "Victor could rule for years while searching for …distant relatives." Aurelius looked at his men. They'd given up everything for him. Their homes, their families, their honor. Now they sat planning like common criminals. "I'm sorry," he said quietly. "You shouldn't have to live like this because of me." "My lord," Sir Garrett said formally. "We chose this. Every one of us." The others nodded, but Aurelius could see doubt creeping in. They were brave men, but they were human. Fear had a way of eating at loyalty. "We need to see what we have to work with," Sir Bradley said, changing the subject. They emptied their pockets and laid everything on the floor. It wasn't much. A few silver coins between them. Basic swords from Seraphina's cache. The torn clothes on their backs. "We look like beggars," Sir Roland said, staring at their bloodstained tunics. "We are beggars," Sir William replied grimly. Aurelius examined their equipment with a commander's eye. Every piece was wrong. Cheap steel instead of blessed weapons. Torn cloth instead of enchanted mail. No protective amulets at all. "This won't do," he said finally. "We're completely vulnerable." Sir Edmund fingered his torn sleeve. "I miss my mail already. Enchanted steel that could turn a blade. Now I'm wearing cloth that won't stop a kitchen knife." "All our gear was blessed," Sir Thomas explained to Seraphina who stared at them. "Standard issue for First Order. Has to be when you face things that normal steel can't touch." "Like what?" she asked. "Cursed blades," Sir Gareth said. "Demon claws. Dark magic. The blessing protects us from supernatural attacks." Sir Philip nodded. "My mail saved my life three times that I know of." "Our weapons too," Sir Garrett added. "Silver inlay in the steel blessed by temple priests. Cuts through dark magic like butter." Sir Roland touched the basic sword sadly. "This thing couldn't cut through leather armor, much less an enchanted shield." "Don't forget the amulets," Sir William said. "Mine protected against curses and mind magic. Been wearing it since I took my vows fifteen years ago." "Now we're naked," Sir Thomas said bluntly. "Magically speaking. Any hedge witch could spell us into dancing like puppets." “Why wear them then?” Seraphina asked. “We were not expecting much since our trip was delayed, so we wore common amour of the first order.” Blue words flashed briefly in Aurelius's vision: [MAGICAL PROTECTION DEFICIENT] [ENCHANTMENT MATERIALS NEEDED] [GROUP VULNERABILITY: CRITICAL] The system understood their problem. In a world where enemies used enchanted weapons and dark magic, they were defenseless. Seraphina moved to another loose floorboard and pulled out a small cloth bundle. Inside were dried herbs and a few glass vials. "Healing draughts," she explained. "Not much, but they'll help with your wounds." She mixed the herbs with water from her clay pots. The mixture smelled bitter but not unpleasant. One by one, the injured knights drank it down. Aurelius took his share and felt the liquid work through his system. His cuts stopped throbbing. The faint ache in his muscles faded and he felt better. "This is the last of my healing supplies," Seraphina said, corking the empty vials. "We'll need more if we plan to keep fighting." "How much would proper equipment cost?" Sir Garrett asked. Seraphina was quiet for a moment, calculating. "Enchanted mail for eleven men? Blessed weapons? Protective amulets? Travel supplies and provisions?" She shook her head. "More gold than you'll see in your lifetimes. Hundreds of dragons, at least."I would explain the world building as I go on guys. Just need to sort some things out first. Thank you for reading to this point. This is my first book on this platforms. tell me what you think. Hopefully it goes well here. so help me lord😂.

Chapter 17: The Road To Shadows III
Enhanced reflexes let him move while the bandits were distracted. He threw his dagger with inhuman speed and accuracy. The blade buried itself in the leader's throat before the man could shout a warning. Blood sprayed across the fallen leaves as he dropped his crossbow and clutched his ruined neck gurgling as he fell. The other bandits panicked. Some tried to shoot while others dove for cover. Their wild shots went wide as Aurelius's knights attacked from multiple directions. Garrett's sword found a bandit's heart while Thomas strangled another with his bare hands. William limped forward on his wounded leg but still managed to drive his blade through an enemy's ribs. His enhanced speed let Aurelius dodge crossbow bolts that should have killed him. He moved like a ghost between the trees, his sword finding throats and hearts with perfect precision. The last bandit tried to grab Lyanna as a hostage. His dirty hands reached for her hair while he pressed a knife to her throat.
Chapter 16: The Road To Shadow II
Aurelius glanced at her surprised. "What's that supposed to mean?" "Nothing," Seraphina replied with false sweetness. "Just noting how much she adores you. Must be nice having someone look at you like you're perfect." The comment stung because it came out of nowhere. Aurelius frowned but kept walking. A few minutes later, when Lyanna stumbled again slightly on the uneven path, Aurelius steadied her with a hand on her arm. "Careful," he said. "So protective," Seraphina muttered under her breath. "Such a gentleman." "Is there a problem?" Aurelius finally asked as it was apparent, something was wrong somewhere. "Problem? Why would there be a problem?" Seraphina's smile was razor-sharp. "You saved the innocent fairy. You're the hero. Everyone thinks you're wonderful." The knights exchanged glances. They could feel the tension building but weren't sure why. "What's this really about?" Aurelius asked, stopping in the middle of the path. Seraphina stopped too, crossing her arms.
Chapter 15: The Road to Shadows
The sun climbed higher while they packed their stolen wealth into rough sacks. Five hundred gold dragons made a heavy load even split between eight men. The enchanted weapons added more weight to their burdens. "We need rest before we move," Sir Garrett said. Dark circles shadowed his eyes from the sleepless night. "Half of us can barely stand." Aurelius looked at his knights. They'd been fighting and running for two straight days. Sir Thomas swayed on his feet despite the healing potion. Sir William's face was pale with exhaustion. "Two hours," he decided. "We sleep in shifts. Four men on watch, four resting." They found corners in the broken warehouse where they could lie down on moldy sacks and cracked wooden crates. It wasn't comfortable but it was better than falling over from exhaustion. Seraphina curled up near Lyanna like a protective sister. The fairy sat with her back against the wall, too afraid to sleep. Every little sound she heard made her jump. "It's safe," S
Chapter 14: Dawn Question's And Silk II
But Lyanna didn't understand the problem. She continued undressing with innocent confidence while eight knights tried desperately to look anywhere else. Her body was perfect in ways that human women could never achieve. Every line and curve designed to entrance. Breasts that were full but not heavy. A waist so narrow it seemed impossible. Hips that flared in exactly the right proportions. "Sweet gods," Sir William whispered totally horrified. "Someone stop her." Seraphina moved fast. She knocked Lyanna on the head with her knuckles, making her flinch in pain. "Ow," Lyanna said, rubbing her head. "What was that for?" "You can't just strip naked in front of men," Seraphina said firmly. "Come with me. We'll change clothes privately." She grabbed the confused fairy by the arm and dragged her toward a section of the warehouse where fallen beams created a natural partition. The knights coughed and looked at their weapons while trying to pretend they hadn't seen anything. "That was cl
Chapter 13: Dawn Questions and Silk
Gray dawn light crept through the broken warehouse roof. Dust motes danced in the pale beams that cut through shadows and smoke. The smell of blood and burned flesh still hung in the air from their clothes and skin. Aurelius sat on a pile of moldy grain sacks with his back against the wall. His burned chest was already pink with new skin where the fireball had hit him. The pain was almost gone. But the memories of Sir Gareth's death burned worse than any fire. Around him, his knights moved like wounded animals. Sir Roland pressed cloth against his ribs where the saber had cut deep. Blood seeped through the makeshift bandage with each breath he took. Sir Thomas pulled the torn arrow shaft from his shoulder with gritted teeth. Fresh blood ran down his arm as he worked the barbed point free. He bit back a curse when it finally came loose. "Fuck," he muttered. "That one hurt worse coming out." Sir William sat with his leg stretched out, examining the gash on his thigh. The wound wasn
Chapter 12: Fire And Freedom II
Only Mother Coin's betrayal had changed that plan. Now Gareth was dead. And these fairies were still suffering and trapped. Maybe he couldn't undo his selfishness. But he could try to be better now. "Yes," Aurelius said quietly. "I should have done this from the start." He unlocked the first cage. A fairy with butterfly-patterned wings that glowed soft pink stepped out carefully, then immediately pressed herself against the far wall. The moment she was clear of the iron bars, her wings folded into her back and disappeared completely. She stared at Aurelius with wide, frightened eyes. Like she expected him to grab her now that she was free. "Go," he said quietly. "You're free." She didn't move. Just stood there shaking. "It's okay," Sir Roland said gently. "We're not going to hurt you." The fairy looked between them, still terrified. Finally she whispered something in a language none of them understood and hurried toward the door on trembling legs. The second cage h
