Katherine slunk back into the grand ballroom, her shoulders hunched and her eyes downcast. The glittering chandeliers and champagne flutes that had earlier symbolized her triumph now only illuminated her defeat. Guests whispered as she passed, their curious eyes following her disheveled appearance.

Victoria Shaw, Katherine's mother, immediately noticed her daughter's distress and rushed over, her silk gown rustling as she moved swiftly across the marble floor.

"Katherine! What happened? Where is James?" Victoria demanded, her perfectly made-up face creased with concern.

Katherine pulled her mother to a quiet corner near the dessert table. "They won't release him, Mother," she whispered, her voice trembling. "The chief said only Yemin can drop the charges. Yemin! That nobody!"

Victoria's eyes narrowed as she studied her daughter's face. "Stop this pathetic display right now," she hissed. "You're a Shaw. Act like it."

"But Mother—"

"No buts!" Victoria snapped, her voice low but fierce.

The ride back to Faye's apartment was filled with uncomfortable silence, the tension from the charity dinner still hanging heavy between them.Yemin had borrowed a towel from the hotel staff to clean the champagne from his face and hair, but his expensive suit remained damp and stained.Faye kept stealing glances at him as they sat in the back of the taxi, her mind racing with questions and concerns. Finally, as they pulled up to her building, she couldn't contain herself any longer."Yemin," she said quietly, "I have to ask you something.""What is it?" he replied, his voice still calm despite everything that had happened."What's really going on between you and Katherine? I mean, the way she was acting tonight... it was like she was trying to mark her territory or something."Yemin sighed and looked out the window at the city lights passing by."Faye, I can assure you that whatever Katherine was doing tonight was completely one-sided. I have no idea what kind of game she's playing,

The ballroom remained frozen in stunned silence for several heartbeats, the only sound being the soft classical music that continued playing in the background. Then, like a dam bursting, the whispers and murmurs began to ripple through the crowd of elite guests."Did you see that?" someone whispered from a nearby table."James Franx just knocked that guy out cold," another voice added with obvious approval."Well, what did he expect?" came a third voice, dripping with disdain. "Trying to steal another man's woman like that."The crowd's sentiment quickly began to shift in James's favor as the reality of the social hierarchy reasserted itself. These people knew James Franx - he was wealthy, influential, and one of their own. Yemin, on the other hand, was a nobody in their eyes."Serves him right," declared Margaret Whitfield, a prominent socialite from table three. "You can't just waltz in here and think you can take whatever you want.""Exactly," agreed Robert Thornton, raising his ch

"Leave?" Katherine's voice rose higher, drawing even more attention from surrounding tables. "But we're having such a lovely reunion! Faye, surely you understand that a wife's bond with her husband transcends temporary separation?""Ex-wife," Faye repeated through gritted teeth. "And you're making a scene.""Am I?" Katherine looked around theatrically, as if just noticing the stares and whispers. "I'm just being affectionate with the man I love."She leaned toward Yemin again, this time trying to kiss his cheek, but he stood up abruptly and moved to the other side of the table."Katherine, stop this," Yemin said quietly but firmly. "You're embarrassing yourself.""The only embarrassing thing here is watching you pretend you don't still have feelings for me," Katherine shot back, following him around the table. "We both know what we had was special.""What we had was a mistake," Yemin replied coldly."Don't say that," Katherine said, her voice taking on a pleading tone as she reached f

Katherine paced her penthouse apartment, her mind racing with conflicting emotions and desperate schemes. The confrontation between James and Yemin at her mother's restaurant had shaken her more than she cared to admit. If Yemin truly possessed the kind of power she suspected, then James's reckless behavior could destroy them both. But there's also an opportunity here, she thought, studying her reflection in the full-length mirror. If Yemin really is wealthy and powerful, then I made the biggest mistake of my life divorcing him.She picked up her phone and scrolled through social media, searching for any information about Yemin's recent activities.Within minutes, she found what she was looking for - photos from a charity event happening that very evening, with Faye Langford prominently featured in the guest list."Perfect," Katherine murmured, already planning her outfit."If Yemin is there with that bitch, I can kill two birds with one stone."Her plan was simple but bold: publicly

"Am I?" Katherine pulled out her phone and showed him a news article. "James, you need to understand something. People who cross certain individuals don't just lose their businesses. They disappear."James read the headline and frowned. "What does this have to do with Yemin?""Just promise me," Katherine pleaded. "Stay away from him. Don't do anything that might provoke him further."Meanwhile, in a secure conference room in an undisclosed location, the remaining members of the Sphinx organization gathered for an emergency meeting. The atmosphere was tense, with each member looking over their shoulders and questioning whether they were truly safe.Vincenzo Torrino, known as M7, sat at the head of the table, his weathered face grim with concern. To his left sat Lorenzo Romano (M4), Salvatore Greco (M5), and Antonio Ricci (M6). The three empty chairs where Joseph Ultra, Marco Benedetti, and the other deceased members once sat served as stark reminders of their mortality."Gentlemen," Vi

James's face turned an even deeper shade of red as Yemin's calm dismissal only fueled his rage further. The whispers and stares from other diners seemed to fade into background noise as his humiliation transformed into pure fury."Stop hiding behind Katherine's skirt and face me like a real man!" James shouted, his voice echoing through the elegant restaurant. "You think you can just walk away from me?"Several waiters moved nervously toward their table, unsure whether to intervene or call security. Faye looked between James and Yemin with growing confusion and embarrassment."Yemin," Faye said quietly, "why do you keep bringing up Katherine? What's going on here?"Yemin stood up calmly, placing his napkin on the table with deliberate precision. "James, I'm telling you one last time - you really should talk to your wife before you do anything you'll regret.""My wife?" James snarled. "What the hell does Katherine have to do with this? She can't stand you!""Ask her," Yemin replied sim
