The ice road was a graveyard.

Mara saw it first—a long, pale scar cutting through the frozen sea, stretching south toward the horizon. It had been carved by generations of traders, their sleds and boots packing the snow into a solid path that survived even the harshest winters.

But no one had walked it in fifty years.

"The entrance is buried," Erik said, kicking at the snowdrift. "We'll have to dig it out."

"How deep?"

"Hard to tell. Could be a foot. Could be ten."
