Vance opened his eyes. The morning sun pierced through the large glass window of the hotel suite. He sat up on the soft bed. His muscles felt dense and heavy. The System had worked all night to fuse the cybernetic armor into his human bones. He felt no pain. He felt invulnerable.
He looked at the small iron token resting on the nightstand. The crest of the Iron Fangs caught the morning light. He picked up the heavy coin. The metal felt cold against his skin.
The blue System interface flashed in his vision.
[Inanimate Object Detected. High Level Encryption Found. Initiate Data Extraction?]
Vance nodded. He willed the system to begin.
[Initiating Data Extraction. Please Wait.]
A soft blue light scanned the iron coin. The metal hissed. A detailed three dimensional map projected into the air right above the nightstand. The map showed the labyrinth of Veridian City. A bright red dot pulsed in the deep industrial zone.
[Location Acquired: The Blood Forge. Primary Manufacturing Hub for Iron Fang Cybernetics.]
Vance smirked. He did not need to wait for the assassins to find him. He could take the fight to their front door. He could cut off their power supply at the source.
He needed gear. The silver sword from Silas was broken. A cheap switchblade would not pierce high tier cybernetic armor. He closed his eyes and sifted through the stolen memories of Marco. The dead boss used a private black market armorer located in the lower subway tunnels.
Vance took a fast shower and put on his clothes from the night before. The fabric was dry but stained with dark blood. He grabbed a fresh black coat from the hotel closet to cover the mess. He stuffed his cash into a small tactical bag and walked out of the suite.
The descent to the lower subway tunnels took almost an hour. The bright towers of the commercial district faded into grim concrete pillars and flickering neon signs. The air down here tasted like copper and engine grease.
Vance walked past abandoned train cars and homeless encampments. He reached a rusted steel door covered in graffiti. He knocked three times. He paused. He knocked two more times. The secret rhythm from Marco.
A small viewing slit slid open. A pair of paranoid eyes stared at him.
"We are closed," a gruff voice grunted.
"Marco sent me," Vance lied. He held up a thick stack of hundred dollar bills.
The heavy door unlatched and swung open. Vance stepped inside.
The hidden armory smelled of gun oil and ozone. Racks of illegal firearms and advanced melee weapons lined the concrete walls. Crates of specialized ammunition sat stacked near the corner. A short, bald man with a mechanical left arm stood behind a reinforced glass counter. He wiped grease from his fingers with a dirty rag.
The armorer looked at Vance with deep suspicion. "I know all of Marco and his men. I do not know you."
"I am the new guy," Vance said. "Marco is dead. I run things now. I need a weapon. Something that cuts through Class A cybernetic armor. I need a blade that will not shatter on impact."
The armorer scoffed. He threw the dirty rag onto the counter. "You think you run things because you got lucky? The Iron Fangs will roast you alive. I do not sell to dead men."
Vance narrowed his eyes. He leaned over the glass counter. He tapped into the cybernetic power core inside his chest. A faint purple light glowed beneath his skin. The air in the small room grew dense and hot. The glass counter cracked under the pressure of his hands.
"I am not asking for a favor," Vance said. His voice carried a dangerous, quiet threat. "I am buying a tool. Show me what you have."
The armorer swallowed hard. The arrogance vanished from his face. He recognized the aura of a true monster. He nodded and walked to a locked vault in the back. The heavy metal gears grinded loud in the silence. He returned holding a sleek, black katana. The blade hummed with a faint orange energy.
"Thermal edge," the armorer explained, his voice shaking. "It cuts through reinforced steel like hot butter. But it draws power from the user. If you are weak, it will drain your life force."
Vance took the weapon. He wrapped his fingers around the grip. The sword felt alive. His cybernetic enhancements pulsed in response. He channeled a fraction of his energy into the hilt. The blade glowed a bright, furious orange. The heat radiating from the metal scorched the damp air of the room.
"I will take it," Vance said. He tossed the stack of bills onto the cracked glass.
The System interface updated.
[New Weapon Acquired. Thermal Katana. Combat Power Increased.]
He turned his back on the armorer and headed for the exit. He felt ready. He pushed the heavy steel door open and stepped back into the dim subway tunnel.
He stopped.
Five figures stood in the shadows blocking his path. They wore matching dark tactical gear. The crest of the Iron Fangs gleamed on their chest plates. Their eyes glowed with unnatural red light. They drew heavy combat blades.
"You are a hard man to find," the lead assassin hissed. "But the hunt is over."

The Dark Grid
Vance walked past the dead Forge Master. The giant cybernetic body leaked dark fluid onto the cracked concrete. The heat of the vats washed over Vance, but his new resistance kept his skin cool. He felt no sweat. He felt pure focus. He approached the metal stairs leading to the elevated control room. The steps groaned under his heavy boots. He reached the top of the stairs. The control room door was thick reinforced steel. A heavy biometric lock sealed the entrance. Vance did not search for a key. He channeled the chaotic purple energy from Marco. He punched the steel door. The thick steel buckled and tore off its hinges. The heavy door crashed into the control room and smashed a row of computer monitors.Vance stepped into the room. The air inside felt crisp and cold. Blue light from dozens of surviving screens illuminated the space. A thin man in a white lab coat cowered in the corner. He clutched a small data drive against his chest."Please," the thin man begged. His voice cracked
The Forge Master
Vance stood high on the metal walkway. The Blood Forge burned bright red below him. Giant vats of liquid metal bubbled with fierce heat. Sweat rolled down his neck. The heavy air tasted like sulfur and burnt copper. The noise of massive gears grinding echoed off the high brick walls. Two elite guards patrolled the iron bridge ten feet away. They wore thick tactical gear. Heavy pulse rifles hung from their shoulders. Vance gripped his thermal katana. The orange blade roared to life with a fierce hum. The noise drew their attention. The guards raised their weapons to fire. Vance moved first. He lunged across the metal grate. His stolen speed made him a blur. He swung the burning sword in a wide arc. The intense heat cut through their rifles and their thick armor with zero resistance. Both men collapsed to the steel floor in a heap of sparks.A loud siren pierced the heavy air. Flashing red lights bathed the massive cavern. The intruders alarm echoed through the giant factory. The Iron Fangs
The five assassins stood like stone statues in the dim tunnel. The red light in their eyes cut through the dark shadows. Rainwater dripped from the cracked concrete ceiling. The lead killer spun a heavy steel blade in his hand. The weapon hummed with a low electric charge."Your luck ran out," the leader hissed. His voice sounded like grinding gears.Vance did not waste time with words. He gripped the hilt of his new thermal katana. He channeled his stolen energy deep into the weapon core. The orange blade roared to life. The immense heat pushed the damp air back. The tunnel smelled of burnt ozone and ancient rust.He stepped forward. He embraced the phantom swordsmanship he extracted the night prior. He closed the gap in a single heartbeat. The first assassin thrust a spear aimed right at his chest. Vance parried the attack with the flat edge of his glowing sword. He twisted his wrists and sliced across the dense metal armor of his attacker. The thermal edge melted the thick plating.
