The tiny living room felt suffocating. The air was thick with the scent of rain and sharp cologne. Vance tightened his grip on the hidden switchblade. His newly enhanced perception scanned the terrifying intruder sitting in the dark.

The man was tall, dressed in a tailored charcoal suit that looked out of place in the rotting apartment. His face was obscured by the shadows. The only thing clearly visible was the long, gleaming silver sword resting across his knees. He was slowly polishing the blade with white silk. Every movement was incredibly precise.

"I must admit," the strange man said, his voice dangerously calm. "Jaxson and his crew are incompetent. Marco pays them good money to take out the trash, yet here you are with a steady heartbeat."

Vance kept his breathing even. He recognized this man. His name was Silas, the personal executioner for the regional boss Marco. Silas was not a common brawler. He was an elite martial artist who killed for sport, a monster other thugs whispered about in absolute terror.

"Jaxson had an accident," Vance replied coldly. His voice did not tremble. The lack of fear in his own tone surprised him. The System had completely eradicated his helpless prey mentality.

Silas stopped polishing the blade. He tilted his head, catching a cruel smile in the dim light. "An accident. How fascinating. A broken punching bag claims he caused an accident for three armed men. Marco sent me here to ensure the job was finished properly. He hates loose ends."

Silas stood up with terrifying grace. He projected an overwhelming aura of absolute confidence and impending death.

Before Vance could blink, Silas crossed the entire room. The sheer speed of the executioner was unnatural. The heavy silver blade slashed downward in a blinding arc aimed directly at the neck of Vance.

Yesterday, Vance would have been decapitated instantly. But the System had fundamentally changed him. The enhanced agility he extracted fired violently through his nervous system. Time seemed to slow down just enough for his perception to track the glowing sword.

Vance threw his body backward, crashing against the wooden door frame. The razor sharp tip sliced cleanly through his damp jacket, leaving a shallow cut across his collarbone.

"Impressive," Silas whispered, his cruel smile widening. "You actually dodged."

Silas did not give Vance a second to recover. He pivoted smoothly, reversing the momentum of his heavy sword and thrusting the blade straight forward like a deadly spear.

Vance acted purely on the lethal knife combat proficiency he had just stolen. He drew the switchblade in one blinding motion. He did not try to block the massive sword. Instead, Vance parried the flat side of the blade, using his raw strength to violently redirect the thrust just a few inches to the left.

The silver sword plunged deeply into the plaster wall right beside his head.

Silas left his guard open for exactly one microsecond. Vance capitalized instantly. He stepped inside the guard of the taller man, twisting his hips to generate brutal power. He drove the sharp switchblade directly into the side of Silas, right where the expensive suit offered zero protection.

Silas gasped, his cold eyes going wide with pure shock. He stumbled backward, clutching his bleeding side. He looked down, unable to comprehend that the weakest man in the city had just stabbed him.

Vance did not hesitate. The System demanded continuous power. He lunged forward, grabbing Silas by the throat with his bare left hand. The immense raw strength borrowed from Jaxson crushed the windpipe of the elite executioner instantly.

Vance drove the switchblade forward a second time, plunging it directly into the heart of the assassin. Silas twitched violently and went completely limp. His lifeless body slid slowly down the wall.

Vance stood quietly over the dead body, breathing heavily.

The harsh blue light of the System interface illuminated the dark living room, glowing brighter than before.

A blinding stream of brilliant gold energy erupted from the chest of Silas. This unique energy felt incredibly ancient and infinitely more powerful. The golden light rushed directly into Vance.

Vance fell to his knees, screaming out loud as his muscles physically tore themselves apart and violently rebuilt themselves in mere seconds. His entire nervous system was being forcefully rewired to handle the supernatural speed he had just absorbed. Countless rigorous hours of elite sword training, complex combat footwork, and deadly striking patterns burned themselves permanently into his core memory.

When the agonizing, burning pain finally subsided completely, Vance opened his eyes. The dark world around him looked completely different. He could clearly see the tiny, individual dust particles floating slowly in the dim artificial light. He could hear the rapid, frantic heartbeat of a stray cat hiding three floors below him in the garbage chute. He was no longer just a simple street predator. He was rapidly becoming something entirely unstoppable, a terrifying force of pure violence.

He reached out slowly and pulled the beautiful silver sword directly from the broken plaster wall. The weapon felt perfectly balanced in his hands, completely familiar and utterly deadly. Vance looked intensely at the glowing red countdown timer hovering quietly in the corner of his vision. He had forty seven hours left to kill Marco.

Vance gripped the silver sword tightly and walked directly back out into the pouring rain. He was not going to wait forty seven hours. He was going to end the corrupt syndicate tonight.
