The Horde notification arrived before Brynhild's crew had finished the second wall section, cutting through the midday work with the same flat certainty every System message carried.

[Space Beast Horde: Incoming]

[Estimated Arrival: Dusk]

[Difficulty Selection Required]

Riven didn't slow his pace toward the Lord Hall. Level one through ten meant a Horde every single day, and he'd already built his morning around the assumption that today wouldn't be an exception just because yesterday's fight had been the hardest one yet.

"Hell," he said, the same word he'd chosen without hesitation two mornings ago. "Same as last time. Nothing about yesterday's difficulty told me to play this one safer."

"Nothing about yesterday told you to play it harder, either," Elarys said, falling into step beside him. "You could hold at Hell for a while and just let the territory keep growing underneath it."

"I could," Riven agreed. "But I've got a wall section that's already stronger than anything the Devourer managed to crack, a Giant crew that hasn't been tested in combat yet, and a gauntlet I still haven't seen work the way it's supposed to. Hell gives me the best chance of actually finding out what all three of those are worth before I decide whether tomorrow needs to go higher."

[Difficulty Selected: Hell]

He pulled up the day's summon before the sun had moved much further, the habit as automatic now as checking his own reflection.

[Unit Summoning Available]

[Angel Barracks: 10/day]

[Fallen Angel Barracks: 10/day]

[Giant Barracks: 10/day]

[Summon Cost: 1 Gold per Unit]

"Summon," he said, and thirty units filed out across three Barracks instead of the ten that used to be his entire daily allotment.

[30 Units Summoned]

[Race: Angel (10) / Fallen Angel (10) / Giant (10)]

[Loyalty: Absolute (Angel/Fallen Angel) / 85% (Giant)]

[Gold: 3,420 → 3,390]

[Population: 171 → 201]

Two hundred and one, nine days after he'd started with nothing but a Lord Hall and a single Hero who hadn't yet earned her name in his memory. Riven walked the line as the new Giants fell in alongside the rest, watching Brynhild size up her fresh recruits with the same assessing patience she'd given the wall that morning.

"Frontline," she said, before he'd even given the order. "Giants hit harder than we're subtle. Put us where the wall needs the most weight behind it, and let the Angels handle whatever needs to move fast instead."

"Exactly the plan I was about to give you," Riven said.

Dusk brought the Horde the way dusk always seemed to bring trouble in the Myriad Dominion — no warning beyond what the System had already provided, just a shudder along the treeline and a wave of movement that didn't stop building until Identification had something concrete to say about it.

[Identification Activating...]

[Target: Approaching Horde]

[Composition: Elite Beasts (Majority), Advanced Beasts, Commander Beasts (3), Boss (Confirmed)]

[Threat Level: Hell]

[Estimated Force Size: 240+]

[Boss Species: Cinderfang Alpha]

[Notable Ability: Wildfire Breath — cone-shaped fire attack, high burn damage]

For the first time since he'd equipped the Ashmaw Claw Gauntlet, something that wasn't quite anticipation settled into the pit of Riven's stomach. Fire damage. A real source, exactly the kind Ember Threading had been sitting dormant and waiting for since the moment Identification revealed what it could do.

"Boss breathes fire," he told the line. "Shield Wall units, angle away from direct cone exposure where you can. Giants, you're the anchor — take the brunt of anything that gets through and hold. I want first contact with that Alpha myself."

"That's new," Elarys said, wings tensing. "You've never taken point before."

"Because I've never had a reason to stand in front of fire before," Riven said, raising the gauntleted hand. "Today I do."

The Horde broke from the treeline in a single burning tide, two hundred and forty bodies moving with the loose, snarling coordination of something built for exactly this kind of overwhelming rush. Archers on both Watchposts opened up immediately, focusing the Commander Beasts the way they'd been drilled to since before the first Horde had ever arrived, and the Shield Wall met the front line the same way it always had — locked shields absorbing impact meant for a single body, spreading the weight thin across five.

[Formation Holding — Damage Reduced: 40%]

The Giants hit the second wave a heartbeat later, and the difference showed immediately. Where a normal unit braced against a charging Elite Beast and held its ground, a Giant simply didn't move at all — broad shoulders absorbing a full-speed collision the way the reinforced wall section had absorbed the Devourer's opening strike, sending the beast reeling back into the bodies behind it instead of breaking through.

[Giant Frontline: Impact Absorption — Enemy Charges Neutralized]

[2 Commander Beasts Slain]

Three Commander Beasts became two within the first several minutes, archers focusing fire exactly as ordered, and the third fell not long after to a combined strike from Elarys and a squad of Fallen Angel units cutting in from the flank. The field narrowed fast, beasts without Commanders losing the coordination that had carried their initial charge, and by the time the Cinderfang Alpha finally cleared the treeline, most of the Horde behind it had already begun to falter.

[Identification Activating...]

[Target: Cinderfang Alpha]

[Threat Level: Extreme]

[Notable Ability: Wildfire Breath — cone-shaped fire attack, high burn damage]

It reared back the moment it caught sight of him standing forward of the line, jaws opening wide enough to swallow a full-grown Elite Beast, and the cone of flame that followed came fast enough that most units wouldn't have had time to brace at all.

Riven didn't brace. He raised the gauntleted hand directly into it.

[Corrosion Ward: Active]

[Ember Threading: Fire Damage Stored]

[Stored Heat: 340]

The flame washed over his arm and did nothing at all — no burn, no pain, just heat pouring into the gauntlet the way water poured into an open container, filling something that had been sitting empty since the moment he'd first equipped it. The Cinderfang Alpha's breath ran its course and cut off, confusion crossing whatever passed for an expression on a creature built entirely from fur and fire, clearly unprepared for a target that hadn't so much as flinched.

"That's new," Elarys said again, landing beside him, something sharper than surprise in her voice this time.

"That's exactly what it was supposed to do," Riven said, flexing his fingers, feeling the stored heat sit coiled and ready inside the gauntlet's frame. "Let's see what it does with somewhere to go."

He closed the distance himself, the Alpha's confusion buying him the half-second he needed, and drove the gauntleted fist directly into its exposed chest.

[Skill Activated: Ember Threading — Release]

[Damage Dealt: 340 + 20% Flame Corrosion]

The strike didn't just hit — it unraveled, the stored heat erupting outward through the Alpha's own hide in a wave of corrosive fire that turned its own ability against it, the same flame it had tried to breathe on him now eating through fur and muscle from the inside out. It staggered, screamed, and Elarys finished what the strike had started, Faith of the Unmade closing the gap between wounded and dead in a single clean pass.

[Cinderfang Alpha Slain]

[Horde Fully Eliminated]

[Casualties: 0]

[Achievement Unlocked: Hell Horde Cleared Using Absorbed Boss Damage]

Zero losses again, a Boss's own signature ability turned back on it with room to spare, and a wall section that hadn't so much as cracked under pressure that had shattered the old one two days earlier. Riven let the field go quiet around him before he checked the rest of the notifications waiting behind the first.

[Rewards Received]

[Gold: 2,900]

[Rare Materials: Cinder Core x2, Flamehide x6]

[Lord EXP Gained: 3,400]

[Current Level: 6 (750/6,000 EXP)]

[New Lord Ranking Updated]

[Top 5 — New Lord Ranking]

[#1 — Riven Ashford — Level 6 — Human/Angel — Score: 942]

[#2 — Marcus Veil — Level 7 — Human/Vampire — Score: 887]

[#3 — Naomi Frost — Level 6 — Human/Elf — Score: 861]

[#4 — Darius Kane — Level 5 — Human/Dwarf — Score: 834]

[#5 — Wei Lin Zhao — Level 6 — Human/Werewolf — Score: 809]

[Your Rank: #1 (Sustained)]

Riven took his time with the full board before reacting to any single line on it. Level meant less than he'd expected, sitting only mid-pack in a list where two other Lords had already pulled ahead of him on that number alone — but the score behind it told a different story, one weighted by exactly the kind of zero-casualty Hell clears and same-day Sub-Space claims nobody else on the list appeared to have matched yet.

"Marcus Veil's a Level ahead of you," Elarys said, reading over his shoulder. "And still second."

"Vampire affinity, probably built around Blood-Bound loyalty and fast individual power instead of territory scale," Riven said. "That's a different kind of build entirely — strong Lord, thin territory. Score weights Development and Military at forty percent combined. I'm winning those categories even a Level behind him."

"And the Dwarf at four?"

"Building-focused, almost certainly. Fast infrastructure, slower combat scaling." Riven scrolled past the name once more, filing the shape of each rival's strategy the same way he filed everything else — not as gossip, but as data he might need the day one of these names stopped being a number on a leaderboard and started being a Lord he had to actually fight. "None of them are wrong. They're just optimizing for something I'm not."

"You say that like you're not worried about any of them."

"I'm not worried about the ranking," Riven said. "I'm worried about whichever one of them reaches Tier 2 first. Everyone already knows Conquest War opens up the moment that happens — the only question is who gets there with a Conquest Token in hand and a reason to use it before I've decided how I want to handle mine."

[Rank Reward Distribution: Day 2 Bonus]

[Reward: Blueprint — Arcane Bastion (New Building)]

[Reward: Gold 1,500]

The ranking reward mattered as much as everything else on the list. Not a one-time prize for a single good day, but a running bonus for holding the top spot two days straight — a Blueprint for something entirely new, sitting in his inventory without a single Dungeon or Horde needed to earn it directly.

[Identification Activating...]

[Target: Arcane Bastion Blueprint]

[Function: Fortified structure amplifying nearby Hero skill effects within a defined radius]

"A building that makes your skill stronger," Riven said, glancing at Elarys. "Sitting in a Blueprint I got for nothing but staying ahead of every other new Lord two days running."

"Rankings pay better than I expected, then," Elarys said.

"They pay exactly as much as staying first is worth," Riven said, already turning toward the second notification still waiting behind the ranking update — the one that had been sitting quiet since morning, patient the way everything in this System seemed to be once he'd learned to stop rushing past it.

[Dungeon Window: Open]

[New Dungeon Detected: Territory Perimeter, Northern Boundary]

[Estimated Duration Until Collapse: 24 Hours]

A second rift, fresh and untouched, sitting somewhere along ground he hadn't walked yet. Riven looked at the darkening field around him, at units already reassembling into formation without needing to be told the day wasn't quite finished, and felt the same cold, clear focus settle over him that had carried him through every decision since the moment he'd first opened his eyes in the Ethereal Space.

"One Horde down," he said. "One Dungeon still waiting. We've got daylight left before the window matters, and I'd rather clear it tonight than leave a rift sitting open on my own land until tomorrow."

"You just fought a Hell Horde with your bare hand in a fire cone," Elarys said. "Most Lords would call that enough for one day."

"Most Lords aren't sitting on a thirty-unit daily summon and two Heroes who haven't slowed down once," Riven said, already walking north. "The Dungeon's not going anywhere on its own, and neither am I. Let's finish what today actually offers before we call it done."

The northern rift looked nothing like the Ashen Vault's had — narrower, edged in pale blue light instead of grey, the dead ring of grass around it tinged faintly with frost despite the evening air holding steady and warm everywhere else. Riven ran Identification before he'd even finished closing the distance.

[Identification Activating...]

[Target: Dungeon Entrance]

[Dungeon Name: Hollow Frost]

[Available Difficulties: Ordinary / Elite / Epic / Legendary]

[Estimated Duration Until Collapse: 24 Hours]

[Full Conquest Reward: Permanent Sub-Space Claim]

"Legendary," Riven said, the decision costing him no more thought than it had the first time. "Same squad composition as yesterday. Giants hold the anchor points, Elarys leads the strike, Shield Wall handles anything that gets past both."

Ten units fell into formation without hesitation — tired from the Horde, if they were tired at all, but none of it showing in the way they locked shields at the rift's edge. Riven stepped through first, and the world on the other side answered with cold instead of heat, corridors of pale blue ice stretching away under a ceiling lit by nothing he could identify, frost creeping along every surface in patterns too regular to be natural.

[Identification Activating...]

[Target: Hollow Frost Interior]

[Enemy Composition: Frost Wisps (Majority), Ice Sentinels, Vault Guardian (Boss, Confirmed)]

[Threat Level: Legendary]

[Recommended Approach: Fire-based attacks bypass Ice Sentinel defenses; ranged focus on Wisps before Corporeal Shift]

Riven flexed the gauntlet once, feeling the stored heat still coiled inside it from the Cinderfang fight, and allowed himself something close to satisfaction at how neatly the pieces were lining up. "Ember Threading's still got charge left in it," he said. "Whatever the Sentinels are, I'm taking point on those personally."

The Frost Wisps came first, pale and flickering the same way the Ashen Vault's Wraiths had, and the Shield Wall handled them with the same patient discipline — holding position, striking only once a Wisp solidified to attack, letting the enemy's own aggression do the work of exposing itself. The Ice Sentinels proved heavier, towering columns of packed ice with limbs that moved in slow, grinding arcs, but every strike Riven landed with the gauntlet carried enough residual heat to crack straight through their defenses in a way no ordinary weapon would have managed.

[Ice Sentinel Slain] [Ice Sentinel Slain]

The Vault Guardian met them in the deepest chamber, a serpentine shape coiled from packed frost and old, cracked ice, easily three times the length of the corridor it had been waiting in.

[Identification Activating...]

[Target: Vault Guardian]

[Species: Rime Wyrm]

[Threat Level: Legendary]

[Notable Ability: Absolute Zero Coil — constricting attack that freezes armor solid on contact]

"Elarys," Riven said, already circling wide to draw its attention away from the Giants anchoring the chamber's entrance. "Same plan as the Devourer. I keep it looking at me, you find the opening."

The Rime Wyrm struck fast for something its size, a coiling lunge that Riven met with the gauntlet instead of dodging clear, the remaining stored heat from the Cinderfang fight bleeding out through the point of contact and stalling the freeze before it could take hold. Elarys came in low a heartbeat later, blade finding the seam where old ice met newer growth along the Wyrm's flank.

[Skill Activated: Faith of the Unmade]

The unraveling took less than three seconds this time, the Wyrm's frozen bulk coming apart into drifting shards of ice and pale light before it had finished registering the strike at all.

[Vault Guardian Slain]

[Hollow Frost Fully Cleared]

[Casualties: 0]

[Full Conquest Reward: Hollow Frost claimed as Permanent Sub-Space]

[Rewards Received]

[Gold: 2,200]

[Rare Materials: Rime Core x1, Frost Shard x9]

[Equipment Blueprint: Frostguard Cloak (Epic Grade)]

A second Sub-Space claimed in the same evening the first one's summon had barely had a full day to prove itself, and a territory that had grown twice over without costing him a single life. No second Hero Summoning Stone this time — the notification made a point of it, a small reminder that yesterday's drop had been luck stacked on top of a Legendary clear, not a standing rate he could count on repeating. Riven looked back at the icy corridor stretching away behind them, then out through the rift toward his own land, dark now under a sky finally settling into proper night.

"Two Dungeons claimed, one Horde cleared, and a Blueprint I didn't have this morning," he said. "Not a bad accounting for one day, even without a second stone to show for it."

"Most Lords would need a week for half of it," Elarys said.

"Most Lords aren't in the habit of double-checking," Riven said, and turned back toward the rift's exit, ready to see what tomorrow's numbers had waiting for him.

Riven woke a second time that morning, though he hadn't remembered falling asleep at all. He'd meant only to sit down against the base of the new tower for a moment while the repair crews worked, and the next thing he knew Elarys was crouched beside him, one hand steady on his shoulder."You've been out for twenty minutes," she said. "I let you have them.""Twenty minutes I didn't budget for." He pushed himself upright, joints stiff in a way that had nothing to do with injury and everything to do with a night that had ended in combat instead of sleep. Around him, the field told its own story — scorched grass in wide black patches, the wall's damaged section already climbing back toward full height under a dozen busy hands, and the fountain at the center of the yard still pulsing its slow, steady gold.[Wall Integrity: 88% → 94%]"Faster than I expected," Riven said, watching stone knit itself seamless under the crew's work."Development Level thirty buys you a faster repair crew," Ela
