Theobald’s war cry cracked through the air like a starting pistol—sharp, clear, and sending everyone charging forward.

HOWL!

The horned wolves sprang into action right away and began descending towards the cornered crew with an intention to slaughter.

"Yaaaa!!"

The soldiers let out a thundering war cry, their eyes shining with readiness and their feet moving dauntlessly.

The small distance between the crew and the wild beasts closed in an instant.

CLANG!

CLING!

The sounds of metal colliding against sharp claws rang out almost immediately.

HOWL!

One of the horned wolves charged furiously toward William, its red eyes glowing with clear bloodlust.

Letting out a sharp howl, it lifted its forelimb furiously, revealing its sharp claws and immediately swung at the hero at lightning speed.

But the hero easily blocked its lightning-fast strike with his sword, as though it were a punch from an average human child.

William pushed back the claws with his sword. A surge of adrenaline rushed through him.

His eyes furrowed slightly.

'My agility is almost on par with it, but its strength is really incredible.'

He could tell by the force behind the claws he had just blocked. If he hadn't taken a proper stance before doing so, he'd have found himself on the ground the moment the attack connected. It was a narrow margin, but skill had saved him.

GROWL!

Enraged by its assault being blocked by the scrawny-looking hero, the horned wolf shifted its body and swiped its sharp claws once again.

Thankfully, William had already regained his ground and was able to evade by moving aside. But this only angered the horned wolf even more, as it angrily turned in his new direction and clawed at him with even more strength behind its attack.

"Fuck!" William cursed and quickly moved aside to avoid a ghastly wound from the lethal blows.

"Hero, the horned wolves are known for their immense speed and reflexes."

Theobald, who was engaged with another horned wolf, quickly warned William after seeing how he was struggling against his opponent.

'I can already tell!'

William gritted his teeth as he swung his sword toward the incoming attack while creating distance between himself and the furious wild beast.

Just like William, the other soldiers were finding it really difficult to fight against the horned wolves—they fought in groups of two or three and, despite their advantage in numbers, were unable to deal with the wild beasts easily. Every soldier’s arms shook with strain under the relentless assault.

Only Captain Theobald appeared to be fending them off pretty well. Two horned wolf corpses were already lying lifeless near him as he fended off two beasts at once.

William caught a glimpse of the captain fending off two powerful horned beasts and was baffled.

The captain was moving much faster than the average soldier.

But what made him stand out the most wasn't his speed but the way he leveraged against the horned wolves without incurring any harm.

The way he fought almost felt like a rehearsed move. It was as though he could predict the wild beasts' next line of attack and was quick enough to evade and counter within that short span.

'No wonder they always say experience is the best teacher.'

William concluded.

While evading his opponent's attacks, he steadily observed the captain's fighting style and the wild beasts' attack patterns.

It was difficult to multitask in a moment of danger, but he had no choice. Another growl erupted, more feral than before.

GROWL!

The horned beast became even more erratic in its attacks. It was enraged at the weak-looking teenager who seemed to be taking their battle unseriously, it hurt its ego.

William was quick to analyze.

He shifted his stance to mirror Theobald’s spacing, holding his blade ready as he watched the wolf overextend its next swipe.

'Theobald creates a safe distance between himself and his opponent, the gap is long enough to make the beast's attack fail but also small enough to be within reach of his sword. This way he doesn't have to take big strides to avoid attacks or charge in to deal his own damage.'

With this understanding, the hero locked eyes with his opponent and a new demeanor appeared. He began controlling the distance with quick steps and measured strides.

Each move the wild beast made became even more predictable after watching how the captain dealt with its cohorts. This time, the hero didn't spend much time evading but focused on attacking and counterattacking instead.

The sound of steel slicing into thick wolf flesh became increasingly frequent.

Unlike the corrupted humans who could not feel pain, the horned wolves were the opposite—even small cuts inflicted on them affected their vitality, slowing down their assaults.

As the strength behind the wolf's attacks dwindled, its movements grew miserably slower and more predictable. The silence that followed felt heavy and eerie.

It only took a few decisive moves before the huge wild beast fell to the ground beside William.

[You've slayed X1 horned wolf, EXP +42]

[You've successfully learned the skill 'Wild Beast Extermination Lv 1']

[Wild Beast Extermination: Your understanding of wild beasts broadens. Your attack power while battling wild beasts increases by 30%]

'A new skill?'

William wasn't expecting to learn a new skill just by watching the captain and slaying a monster using his tactics.

'30% more attack power when engaged with wild beasts. How effective would that be?'

William boldly clashed with a horned wolf charging toward him to test his new skill. Each blow rang out with newfound confidence.

Unlike Theobald and William, the other soldiers weren't successful in dealing with their opponents despite fighting in groups.

Around three of them lay on the ground, lifeless, while the wolves tore and fed on their corpses. They clung to life by sheer will, their faces pale.

A few were badly injured, sustaining only by sheer will to survive—though survival seemed unlikely.

At this moment, the number of horned wolves alive and clashing with the crew was seventeen.

Despite being half the population of the crew, their raw strength made them unstoppable.

Early morning had already arrived over the dark island. The sun shone brightly over the evil island, radiating a strong golden glow and heat. The sun easily permeated the small confinement of the room which only comprised of a few wooden chairs, a bed and a tall wooden cupboard where the previous owner of the room kept their wands and attires.Inside a spacious, dimly-lit room at the dark island, the core members of the two groups could be seen standing around a small desk.Melissa and Peterson brought out a more detailed ancient map of the place and described it to William and Theobald who represented their group. Only two members were allowed to attend the meeting thus both of them were sent."The first three floors are very easy to clear, they comprise mostly of mid-level apprentice wizards with barely enough mana in their mana reserve to cast powerful spells. While they are a little bit stronger than the wizards guarding the fences, they are not that much trouble for a well-traine

The crew ended up spending more than half an hour discussing about the plans to infiltrate the dark tower, how to act within it, how to avoid suspicions, path to follow, and where to find certain important people inside the tower. Most of the explanation was done by Peterson, the trustworthy assassin of Melissa's squad. His information and description were clear and vivid—better than reading it from a map.Melissa and a few members of her squad also added to the information available. As they had been around the tower for several days, their understanding of the place was an important lesson to William and the others.During their discussions, they had to halt several times—either when the surveillance light flashed in their direction or when actual members of the cult walked by.They were able to finish their discussion without drawing that much attention to themselves. After they were done discussing, they began preparing to act on the plans they had just finalized."Here."Melissa

William and the crew, now under disguise, were strolling around. From ahead, a group of Gravemind cultist strolled in their direction. They were about fifteen of them in numbers, each of them stood tall with heights above six feets. A few of them had huge muscular builds similar to Theobald's.Their strides were filled with arrogance, something the other cultist William had slayed lacked.William was the first to notice the oddity of the group marching in their direction, and he couldn't help but frown. Why were they so different from the others? he asked himself.William kept his eyes on the small group as they closed in on each other. His eyes was fixed on that of the biggest one in the ground who, coincidentally, also had his eyes locked with his. William could sense weird emotions from his eyes as they jammed; it was something between hatred and disgust. The two groups were just a few meters away from walking past each other. The silence between them stronger than ever, almost as

A few men adorning dark robes and masks could be seen patrolling the mighty fence that enclosed the evil gathering of Gravemind cult. They walked in separate groups, each of them moving in different directions, ensuring that all the perimeter of the fence was covered at all times.A small group of three cultists could be seen strolling together while discussing amongst themselves, unaware of the arrival of an unstoppable opponent."I heard the great leader would be arriving tonight," one of them brought up a new conversation."Frederico told me about that a few hours ago, I thought he was lying. So you guys heard the same thing?" The one in the middle replied."Frederico wasn't lying, I overheard two of our superiors discussing about his arrival.""I suspect something important would go down in a few days. The great leader never visits the tower unless for a very important event, could it be that the preparing of the grand ritual has been completed and he is here to finalize it?"The

William and the crew could be seen strolling towards the vast water body with silent and cautious step. At the moment, each of them had a long black fabric covering their head. The black fabric served as a camouflage each time the beam of the light rotated in their direction. As the land was plain and filled with dark sand and skeletal remains, covering themselves in black clothings made them more difficult to detect from afar.Thankfully, this barren land had no sort of abnormalities, not even corrupted creatures that usually raided the night. If there were unlucky enough to have faced anyone, their location would be revealed to the cult once and their entire plan would be ruined."Walk faster! We need to be at the island before morning arrives!"Theobald announced to the others while strolling beside the hero. Both of them took long strides forward, their eyes cautiously scanning their surroundings from time to time.King Julian and the others increased their pace and soon caught up

After the peculiar sensation of passing through the portal faded, William found himself standing in a strange, unfamiliar location."Wow!"The scene before him prompted the hero to exclaim in genuine astonishment.Spread before his eyes was a vast, barren land plunged into darkness and gloom. Only the faint crescent light of the full moon hanging in the sky battled the intense blackness. Not far from his current position, William’s gaze fell on a truly vast, large water body that stretched over a long distance, seemingly unending from his perspective. The hero needed no geography expert to tell him this was Dark Island, the sacred landmark and hideout of the most terrifying dark wizard cult in this dark world. The sound of water calmly flowing could be heard clearly, and the waters were almost visible as they softly reflected the moon."What is that?"A surprised voice muttered behind the hero as its owner’s eyes suddenly and instantly fell upon a mysterious, silhouetted structure ris
