Katie sniffled, still feeling the burning sting of her father’s slap on her cheek. She couldn’t believe her father had slapped her. He had never raised a hand against her before. She had always been the apple of his eye, yet he had dared to slap her after she told him everything. If it weren’t for her mother, she was sure that her father would have hit her again.

Just thinking about the reason for her father’s anger made her grit her teeth in frustration. The hand not touching her cheek curled into a fist as she imagined strangling Cristian with her bare hands.

She was going to make him pay for this humiliation. He was going to regret ever crossing her and her family. Once they got out of this place, she was going to summon her beast like she should have from the start and let it tear him apart. Then she’ll turn that small wolf at his side into a new rug for her mother.

Well, isn’t this an interesting sight. It seems there’s a bit of family trouble going on here.” Cristian’s voice echoed above them.

The family stared up at the ceiling with a mixture of hate and fear. Cristian mused that this was beginning to become a pattern, one that he didn’t mind.

Let us out. Do you know who I am?” Mr. Sellers demanded, shaking a fist at the ceiling.

Of course I know who you are, Mr. Sellers. That’s why we’re here,” Cristian said.

What do you want from us?” Mrs. Sellers asked, leaning against her husband.

Didn’t your daughter tell you?” he asked in mock surprise.

The couple glanced at their daughter with differing expressions. Mr. Sellers had a stormy expression like a volcano about to erupt while Mrs. Sellers seemed worried and regretful.

I want compensation for the harm your daughter inflicted. Originally, I would have let her off with a mere two million, but now I expect five million from you,” Cristian said cheerfully.

Mr. Sellers sputtered. “Preposterous. This is highway robbery.”

Take it or leave it. I can easily leave all of you in there and take what I want from your property. It’s up to you,” Cristian said.

Dear, what do we do?” Mrs. Sellers asked as she tugged anxiously on her husband’s arm.

Mr. Sellers shoved her aside and spat, “I told you that this is all your fault. You spoiled her.”

Mrs. Sellers stared at him in disbelief. “Excuse me?”

You heard me. We wouldn’t be in this situation if it weren’t for you,” Mr. Sellers snarled, pointing a finger in Mrs. Sellers’ face.

Her face contorted with rage as she snapped, “This again? I’m spoiling her? Who’s the one who encouraged her to be with that Jagger boy? If she never got involved with him, we wouldn’t be in this mess.”

The couple were going to end up tearing each other apart at this rate, and Cristian barely did anything. However, he was a bit curious about what they had done while he was cleaning out their house. It sounded like they already had this discussion before. Had they been arguing about this for hours?

After listening to them argue for a couple minutes, he snapped, “Enough. If I hear one more word, I’m leaving all of you there.”

In an instant, they were silent. They all stared up at the ceiling with trepidation, fearfully that he would really just abandon them there. Katie was the most fearful after having already experienced being trapped there.

Now will you pay or not?” Cristian asked.

Fine. We’ll pay. Just let us out,” Mr. Sellers spat.

Hold it. I need to ensure that you keep your word. If I let all of you out, how can I be sure you won’t attack me right away?” Cristian pointed out.

Mr. Sellers ground his teeth and forced out, “We promise we won’t.”

I’m afraid I can’t take your word for it. Your family has already proven how untrustworthy it is. I’ll only let one of you out and keep everyone else as a hostage,” Cristian declared.

What?” the family screamed.

You heard me. Only one of them gets out to get me the money. The rest stays put until I see the money in my hands, so who will it be? I’ll leave it in your hands to decide,” he said before leaving them to decide among themselves.

[Are you really going to let them decide?]

Cristian patted Fenrir’s head as he said, “No. I’ve already decided on who it will be.”

[Oh? Who is it?]

You’ll see. By the way, you said you would be lending your powers to me. So far I only have the dimensional space. When will I get the other powers?” he asked, holding Fenrir up to his face.

[And I remember telling you that the system is set up so you won’t die from my overwhelming power. When it has determined your condition is stable for a new power, it’ll inform you.]

Then can you at least tell me about your powers? You’ve never showed any of them in the last life,” Cristian said as he took a seat and played with Fenrir’s paws.

[You’ll see.]

Hearing his words parroted back to him, Cristian huffed. Rather than push the subject, he chose to turn his attention back to the family trapped in the dimensional space. He had given them enough time to talk it over, so he was curious to see the results.

What he saw shocked him. Mr. Sellers was on top of Mrs. Sellers, repeatedly hitting her with his fists. Katie was screaming and begging her father to stop, only for him to backhand her. She was knocked aside, but she quickly rushed over again to try to pull her father off. Unfortunately, she was no match for the man. Unable to believe his eyes, Cristian watched for several moments before acting.

I think that’s enough now.” Cristian’s cold voice echoed in the space.

Mr. Sellers released his wife and asked, “You’ll let me out now?”

Rather than give him an answer, Cristian pulled Katie and Mrs. Sellers out of the space, leaving Mr. Sellers behind. The man screamed incoherently, demanding he be let out, but Cristian ignored him to focus on the battered women in front of him.

Katie cursed, digging through her closet to find any old devices she might still have. Clothes were haphazardly tossed aside as she frantically searched for a phone or a laptop. Anything that would allow her to contact the outside world. She couldn’t believe her mother would confiscate her phone and other devices to keep her from contacting anyone. Hadn’t she seen how much of a monster Cristian was? There was no way he was going to let them live once he got everything he wanted from them. They had to call for help before it was too late.As she shoved a box aside, she heard something fall out and make a thud sound. A quick look revealed it was an old phone, and she snatched it up triumphantly. Her relief soon turned to dismay when she realized it wouldn’t turn on no matter what she pressed. The battery must have died after being left unused for so long in her closet. She had to find the charger for it.“Damn it,” she muttered to herself, searching through the box it fell out of.After

Katie’s knees finally gave out, and she collapsed to the ground. A horrible smell filled the air, and Cristian stepped back to avoid the puddle forming underneath her.“Katie!” Mrs. Sellers rushed forward to her daughter’s side, acting as a shield to protect her daughter. However, he was no longer paying any attention to them. His eyes were drawn to the blue text box that had appeared out of the corner of his vision.[The user has obtained a new ability and can exert an overwhelming presence that can paralyze those weaker than the user.]Cristian stared at the blue text incredulously before looking at Fenrir. The wolf didn’t bat an eye and even yawned at him. He raised an eyebrow and was tempted to ask right then and there if this meant he now had aura. Just thinking about it made him huff in amusement before turning his attention back to the cowering women.Given Katie’s reaction and the text box’s appearance, he had somehow used the power on her. However, it didn’t sound that great

The two women stared anxiously at Cristian, fearing what he intended to do with them. He combed a hand through his hair, berating himself for being softhearted.Cristian had intended only to grab Mrs. Sellers while keeping Mr. Sellers and Katie as hostages. It was the most reasonable option. He needed an adult to get the money, and Mr. Seller hadn’t been a choice from the beginning, as Cristian expected the man to try to save only his own skin. The man would likely choose to abandon his wife and child if it benefited him, but Cristian never expected him to be so ruthless, trying to kill them while trapped in the dimensional space.Just thinking about it enraged him, and Cristian placed Fenrir down as he stood up to kick the couch he had been sitting on. The women screamed and huddled close, refusing to look him in the face.“Stop that. I won’t hit you as long as you don’t try anything funny,” he said, sitting back down onto the armrest of the couch to avoid sitting on Fenrir.“Why sho

Cristian ducked behind the nearby couch while Fenrir hid under a table to avoid the peacock’s ice attack. The icicles skewered the spot they had been standing before, tearing up the rug. He stared at the collection of large icicles the size of his arm before peeking around the corner of the couch. Mrs. Sellers and Katie appeared behind the peacock with dark expressions.“My rug!” Mrs. Sellers wailed, cupping her cheeks with her hands.“Where’s dad?” Katie asked, scanning the room.He narrowed his eyes as he prepared to pull them into the dimensional space. That’s when a floating blue text box appeared in his vision.[The targets are not within range. Please move closer to the target.]Cristian nearly cursed aloud as he glared daggers at the text. “We’re here,” Katie said as they stood in front of the driveway to her home.Cristian took a moment to study the place. It was an impressive house with three stories and two fancy cars parked in the driveway. He was certain that the backyard was just as impressive, but it didn’t matter much in the end. What he was after was the money, not the property. Even if he somehow got his hands on the deed, there was no way he could sell it before the apocalypse started.“Before we go in, I want to make something clear,” he said, resting a hand on her shoulder. She shuddered before tentatively asking, “What?”“You are not to let them know about what happened between us. If I see any hint that you might sell me out…” he trailed off, letting her fill in the blank.Katie gritted her teeth and said, “I understand.”“Good. Now ladies first,” he said, indicating for her to go first. She glared at him before walking down the driveway to the front door. Katie rang the doorbell, and the door swung open.
