Fry, the Fried Chicken

Lucan did not know how it happened. Perhaps the contract occurred when the little chicken fell onto his face. However, the contract was clearly a one-sided contract that Lucan had not agreed to, and this showed that the little chicken had devoted itself to him.

With a one-sided contract, whatever happened to the little chicken would have no effect on Lucan. It was different from a contracted familiar with the consent of both parties. If the familiar was injured, then its master would also be injured. And vice versa.

However, putting that fact aside, Lucan still did not want it. After all, the little chicken was so talkative and could not stop chirping!

“You’re happy, aren’t you? Not everyone can be as lucky as you! I–”

Unfortunately, no matter how much Lucan did not want it, he had no choice. Even after repeatedly driving the little chicken away, the annoying creature refused to leave and continued following him.

From that moment on, Lucan’s days no longer felt peaceful because of the little chicken’s chatter, which loved to babble and boast about itself.

Remembering all of that made Lucan massage his temples. In his previous life, he had been a respected Archmage with two much more impressive contracted familiars. Lucan’s Legendary Ice Dragon and Fire Lion were very dignified and capable of maintaining their manners and speech, unlike the noisy one currently in front of him!

“Can’t you be quiet?!” Lucan reprimanded coldly. He was beginning to feel frustrated from constantly hearing the little chicken’s chirping.

“My master, how could you ask me to stop talking? You’re the only person I can talk to here!”

Lucan frowned. His thick eyebrows knitted together in displeasure.

“My master, my master! Why don’t you just tell your master about Victor’s evil deeds?! An evil human like him must be taught a lesson immediately!” Not satisfied with merely shouting, the little chicken began jumping up and down in front of Lucan’s face.

The shrill shouting and the little chicken’s movements truly provoked Lucan’s emotions. He extended his hand when the creature jumped again, then squeezed it playfully.

“Should I fry you according to your name so you can be quiet?”

The little chicken’s eyes watered, then it asked in a soft voice, “My master … wants to fry Fry?”

(Note: Fry is called from the words Fried/Frying, a pun on fried chicken)

“If you can’t be quiet, I really will fry you,” Lucan threatened with an expressionless face.

The little chicken named Fry fell silent for a moment, allowing Lucan to breathe a sigh of relief because his threat had worked. However, the relief Lucan felt did not last long.

Fry struggled in Lucan’s grip until it broke free and stomped its feet on the wooden floor while screaming angrily. “My master! Fry is not fried chicken, but a rare Great Phoenix. How could you think of frying Fry?!”

Lucan pulled Fry’s leg with his left hand. This made the little-chicken-shaped familiar hang upside down.

Its wings flapped faster because of panic, but Lucan only looked at it lazily. He did not feel even the slightest bit of pity for his contracted familiar’s panic.

“I just found out that a Great Phoenix has a shape similar to a malnourished chick,” Lucan teased.

“Huhuhu, my master Lucan is indeed cruel. Fry is thin because Fry healed your body while you were training magic. But this is the reward Fry receives …,” Fry sobbed resentfully.

Its wings began to droop weakly. Fry no longer struggled in Lucan’s hand, its shouting replaced by the voice of a little child sobbing.

Lucan took a deep breath, then exhaled it irritably. Fry’s words made him realize one thing.

His ability to wake up without wounds on Lucan’s body … was indeed because of Fry.

This was confirmed by Lucan when he continued training his magical energy and sensed Fry’s Mana aura inside his body.

Lucan could not remember whether in the past he had ever crossed paths with Fry and caused the creature to owe him a favor, but in reality Lucan had indeed managed to wake up without any wounds on Lucan’s body. Something that was nearly impossible considering that at that time Lucan had fallen from a high cliff.

Thus, even before Lucan saved Fry from the wolf beast spirit, it seemed that the little chicken had already recognized him or recognized Lucan.

“Enough, don’t cry,” Lucan said as he pulled Fry into his embrace. “I’m sorry.” Lucan stroked Fry’s yellow-feathered head.

The chicken’s feathers felt soft, so Lucan smiled helplessly as he stroked it, feeling as if he had an adorable pet.

From Fry’s weakness, Lucan was certain that the little chicken was still very young. No wonder it could not stop talking and was curious about many things. Fry was just like a little child who wanted to know about everything in the world.

Just as Lucan thought that, Fry immediately raised its face and looked at Lucan with a wide smile. “So, why doesn’t my master Lucan expose Victor’s true colors?”

Lucan’s temple twitched. Had this annoying little chicken just tricked him?!

From Fry’s expression, which was no longer sad, it was obvious that the little chicken had just been pretending to provoke Lucan’s guilt!

“My master?” Fry’s eyes sparkled without any guilt.

Not wanting to prolong the matter, Lucan said, “There is no use for me in exposing Victor’s true colors immediately. Master Elena can only expel him from Sanctuaria, but she cannot expel that unfilial disciple from White Dove Academy.” Lucan decided to answer Fry’s question so the creature would stop pestering him. “Besides, expelling Victor will only make him harbor resentment. More victims could fall from the Sanctuaria disciples’ side, and that would trouble Master Elena again.”

Fry looked at him patiently, waiting for further explanation from Lucan.

“It’s better for me to ask for Victor as a supervisor so that his movements become more restricted. He will always be watched by Elena, and bringing him down will also become easier.”

Fry looked at Lucan in admiration. “My master, you are as sly as a fox.”

Lucan’s eyes narrowed like a bow upon hearing Fry’s words. He did not know whether the chicken was insulting or praising him.

However, Lucan’s anger faded when he remembered his life in the past.

“Yes, I am indeed as sly as a fox,” Lucan said as he stared blankly into the air, piercing through space and time, remembering the laughter of everyone who had belittled and betrayed him in the past. “It is better to be a villain who can survive than to be a good person who loses his life foolishly.”

“Why didn’t you expose Victor’s wickedness?” An unfamiliar voice called out from behind Lucan.Lucan’s shoulders tensed. His eyes became alert as he turned around.WHOOSH!Three silver needle blades shot rapidly from Lucan’s fingers. Straight toward the source of the mysterious voice that had startled him.CLACK! CLACK! Not much different from Gideon, who was extremely confused, Elena’s smooth forehead also furrowed because the answer sounded strange to her. As far as she remembered, the boy did not like Victor very much in the past, and often even avoided contact with him.Her chin was raised somewhat high as she observed Lucan. Her movement was somewhat awkward because before cultivating, Elena had always been more accustomed to lowering her head when speaking with her disciple.“Lucan,” she called softly. “If you want to ask to be accompanied by another disciple, just tell me. I will immediately replace him with a disciple you prefer more.”Lucan’s black eyes met Elena’s gaze with a firmness the woman had never seen before. Elena’s heart trembled because of the sharpness in Lucan’s gaze.“There is no need, Master Elena. I am already quite satisfied with Senior Victor.” Lucan respectfully bowed to Elena to express his deep gratitude.Elena sighed inwardly. Even though Lucan had repeatedly stated th

“Fully responsible … for Lucan?” An awkward laugh escaped Victor’s mouth to conceal his anger. “Why?”Elena did not laugh along. Her almond-shaped eyes met Victor’s gaze sharply. “As the third strongest disciple and at the same time the guide for the first-level disciples, naturally you are the most suitable person to accompany Lucan in his magical training.”“B-but Lucan hasn’t even reached first-level Mage, Master Elena! He will only have difficulty when he joins the other disciples.”It sounded concerned, but what Victor actually meant was … he was unwilling to take on a burden like Lucan! At this moment, Elena smiled. “Don’t worry, Lucan has already managed to clear his Mana pathways. In three days, he will be able to train with the other disciples.”Victor’s mouth opened again, agape at his master’s statement. ‘The idiot cleared his Mana pathways?’ He glanced at Lucan with an incredulous expression. ‘How is that possible?!’Before Victor could object to her words again, Elena spo

  • Victor Receives His Punishment

Victor walked hesitantly, as did his two friends following behind him. Their usually long strides were now deliberately slowed down to stall for time.“What are you doing? Master Elena has been waiting for a while,” Gideon reprimanded impatiently. He had already walked ahead to lead the group, but was forced to turn back again because Victor and his friends had yet to appear.“I’m not sure this is a good idea. Master Elena is still exhausted. Maybe this meeting can be postponed so she can rest first,” Victor replied.“What Senior Victor said is true. It would be better for Master Elena to rest first,” one of his followers chimed in.Gideon narrowed his eyes, observing Victor who stood anxiously. Especially when Victor used his sleeve to wipe the sweat from his forehead.“What are you actually afraid of, Victor? I’ve noticed that you’ve been acting very anxious, as if you’ve just made a serious mistake.” Gideon walked closer to observe Victor’s eyes more clearly.Victor brushed his han

“Lucan?” Elena called her student again, bringing Lucan out of his thoughts. “Do you mind?”Elena’s face looked serious, making Lucan unable to avoid it if he did not want to arouse her suspicion.“No, Master,” Lucan replied as he extended his hand and allowed Elena to examine his Mana pathways.Elena closed her eyes, then placed two fingers on the pulse of Lucan’s wrist, examining the flow of the man’s energy. The next second, Elena was startled when she felt the smooth flow of Mana energy throughout Lucan’s body.Elena’s eyes opened quickly. “You managed to clear the blockage in your veins?!” she asked in surprise. “Not only that, you have already reached first-level basic Mage level?!”This was a miracle.Since Lucan was still a baby, Elena had already known that the young man’s Mana pathways were blocked. Even so, Elena still insisted on bringing him to the Academy with the hope that high-quality potions could cure Lucan. Unfortunately, until the last time … every method they trie
