David's eyes opened slowly. His gaze met the sky, and he immediately sat up, wondering if he was still at the starting point. Fortunately for him, he wasn't.

He was at the peak in the desert, and the beast's carcass was fastly rotting. On it read an interface.

"Scorpo. Abilities — lethal venom

Reward — lethal venom (fangs)."

He looked at the fangs a few metres from him. He put a few facts together and realized they had killed him. He mentally scrolled for his regeneration and he had 9 left. He had nine lives and had just lost one for touching the fangs.

"I don't know where I am, or where I'm headed, but I'll be damned if I let something else with these get me again." He muttered and got up.

He stored the fangs and groaned. He was down to three Swords, and one axe.

"Stupid." He muttered, proceeding forth. Before him was what seemed like the end of the desert. It was connecting to a forest.

If there was anything in the forest indicating life, a way home or anything other than the vast emptiness of death, it would be progress.

He continued at a regular pace, with memories slowly returning to his head. His name is David Hart, he had just turned twenty one. His father was the head of creatives for the company he worked in, and he worked in creatives.

He remembered nothing more after that.

He stopped. Before him was the forest. It looked small from a distance, but in reality, it was vast.

"I hope this is worth it." He said and walked inside the forest.

At a far end stood a silhouette figure watching him. Interested, the figure kept up with him from the distance, and he, lost in thoughts, was oblivious of the figure's presence.

.

.

David got to a clearing in the forest and settled down. It had probably been hours since he stepped in there and was hungry.

He looked at his options in the store and was frustrated, he needed food, not just fruits.

Without a choice, he picked a bunch of Bananas and began eating. He also took a pouch of water and drank quick, heavy gulps.

"Refreshing." He stated, a huge sigh of satisfaction escaping his mouth.

He heard a twig break and he suddenly selected his sword. It appeared in his right arm and he stood ready.

Suddenly, a little monkey ran forth and stopped in front of him. It looked surprised to see him, and he did too.

He took a Banana and threw it at the monkey. It picked it up and bit through it. Suddenly, a large mouth appeared from nowhere, swallowing the monkey.

David froze, that was horrific.

He heard a loud roar and a huge step resounded before him. He looked as a beast on two legs stood before him.

He recognised it, albeit from a movie he had seen as a child.

It was a Dinosaur, a T-rex.

He wasn't ready for another fight, and he wasn't outrunning this monster.

He made for inside the forest amidst the trees and bushes which constantly knocked him around. He hoped the T-rex was too big to follow and to his surprise, it was just crushing every tree in its path. He suddenly stopped. He was at the end of the road. There was nothing but a deep layout of trees thousands of metres below.

"Fuck." He muttered. He turned and made for another angle but was stopped by the T-rex's presence.

He wondered if he could just stab it with the fangs and kill it. The disadvantage, he thought, was his own death too, and he wasn't going to risk losing another life in a situation he had just began.

Determined, he gripped his sword and dashed forth. The beast attempted to bite him and he dodged around it's head, striking its neck with his sword.

It roared loudly and its tail struck David, causing him to crash into the floor. The force felt like he had been hit by a truck, yet he was alive. He stood and ran from it. He wasn't going to kill this thing without dying.

He stumbled onto a tree stump and fell, his bones sounding with a large "crack."

"No, no, no." He muttered, grabbing his right knee.Just when he needed to survive, he was going to die again.

"What the fuck is the use of this force resistance then?" He screamed. It still read at 100%.

The beast now closed in on him slowly. He held his breath, hoping it would lose its focus on him. It didn't.

Suddenly, its face was met with an explosion, throwing it off balance. Another explosion occured at its legs, causing it to fall. A humanoid figure, it's additional features hidden in the sunlight appeared and jumped on the T-rex. Instantly, it stabbed its eyes, then dug its sword into the T-rex's chest, killing it at once.

The figure got off the T-rex and walked towards David.

"Don't fucking come close, I have weapons." David threatened, pointing his sword at the figure, now revealed to be in a huge cloak, totally concealing their identity.

"I'm not here to hurt you." They said and he went numb, it was the first time he was hearing a human voice since he woke up in the nightmare.

"Who…who are you?" He stammered.

The cloaked figure removed their cloak, revealing thier self to be a lady with bright red hair, made in two braids. She was dressed in leather armour and had a quill of arrows on her back and her sword's sheath slung by her waist.

"Youmust be player one." She said with a hint of eagerness.

"Who are you?" He asked again.

"You're the player." She said again with a shriek of excitement.

"Player one, I am Colleen, and Welcome to the game. I know you have a lot of questions, but don't ask now. Come with me if you want to live and I may, or may not knock you out, given your reply." She said once more, and stretched her right arm towards him.

  • He knew what he wanted

The sky was bright, the sun radiating glowingly on the earth as beams of gold mixed with the colour of the sand, creating a calm effect. David whizzed through the air, urging forward at top speed. It felt like he had flown for hours without rest, and finally, he stopped, sighting his destination. He touched down, his boots softly sinking inside the desert floor. He looked around, surprised to find the vastness of the desert empty. "What happened to all the bones and destruction?" He wondered, proceeding forward. "Perhaps I landed at the wrong point." He wondered again, looking around. However, he was sure he was at the right spot. The rising point wasn't too distant from where he was, yet he couldn't find the properties that uniquely defined the desert. It just felt like a ghost land which it was. He was frustrated, but kept it to himself. He needed to complete the mission, not burn out his energy throwing tantrums around no one in particular. On his way, he reflected on his last

  • Unfinished business.

"Now that you are responsible for his next mission objective. Tell me child, what will you do? By the way, to make your job easier… or harder, your next mission for him will reward him five levels upon completion. You'll gain access to his history in the game for mission context now. Think fast, you have less than an hour, and Your time starts now." She frowned, her heart felt shattered, heartbroken. Nonetheless, she had to make a decision. But, was she? _ _She shut her eyes, clouded in a river of thoughts to make a decision. She didn't want David to leave her alone, but she also wanted him to achieve his goal. It was hard, now knowing she was responsible for him. Her mind drifted to the system, her fists tightening with anger at the thought of it. It was the catalyst for this, playing her against her will. The fact that she was going to decide and play a part in this just seemed evil, worse, the timeline she had to make that decision. She wondered if she could stall, keep being

  • He's leaving you behind.

Colleen walked into the laboratory, ignoring the row of her friends all inside starting to ease themselves off their recent experience. She didn't bother answering when Dana called, and trudged forward like a zombie. In all honesty, her mind was blank, realising David had truly made up his mind. She proceeded quickly, only stopping when she got to the inner chambers where Audrey lay, recovering from an indecipherable cause of her deep slumber. She slumped into the chair, sighing heavily. Her eyes were shut, and her eyebrows were wet with building tears which she managed to squeeze inside. She sniffled, remembering his words. "I realised this was all a distraction. I have to go home" They stung her deeply like venom stinging one's skin. She hated it, everything that had happened with her. Her whole life was a mess, without purpose, without value. Not a single moment she could call a happy one, until David came into her life. Yet, she ended up being sad again. She wondered if Conra

  • Clarity on all ends.

Ladus was silent, a resonance of sorrow and grief encompassing the town for what it experienced at the moment. Contrary to the generally beautiful setting it once was, its compositions were darker, not evil, but void of joy, brightness, happiness. It seemed like a great tragedy had befallen the town, but it wasn't the case for the residence of the townspeople, they rather lived as they regularly did. The darkness only applied to what the town once was, the exteriors nearer the desert which included Gandu's laboratory, the Doctor's residence and other older structures that came with the dawn of the town. Gandu's laboratory wasn't empty, it was occupied by the gang, including Doctor Enitan who had all returned from what was a terrible day at Aterista. The general mood was gloomy, not one person, not even the comic relief personalities trying to light up the place. Everybody just sat, respectively reminiscing on the massacre at Aterista and how they had barely won the elves, almost los

  • It's over.

Aubrey hovered in the sky beside Tolek, watching them as Tolek raged. The sky rumbled with thunder, an effect of hers following her master's command. "Child, destroy them. Every one of them. Let none live!" Tolek commanded. Like a mindless robot, she sprung towards them with Zeddicus standing in her way. "Audrey." He spoke, but was cut off by a blow from her, crashing him against a tree. The tree cracked with some bones in his body, creating a painful sound that hurt both him and the earth. She did not stop, she pushed further, blitzing towards Colleen. She couldn't react fast enough as an unstoppable force crashed into her, throwing her metres away from the spot she was on, leaving a trail on the earth as she skidded through it. "Audrey, stop." David spoke weakly. She looked at him, then turned, seeing Zeddicus was starting to rise. She made for him, moving at the same speed she did earlier. Before he could react, he felt her palm breeze against his shoulder, and something tackle

  • No More Secrets.

"Well… Brett. Took you long enough to catch up. So, let's talk.… Friend." Bill relaxed on the chair, slumping his back slowly. Brett rose, his skin reddened with anger. He stepped towards the man and stopped, towering above his resting form. The air in the room was tense. Sarah watched with peculiar curiosity while Scar just stood, seemingly interested with the turn of events. He expected it, anything that had to do with Brett wasn't exactly milk and cookies. Brett finally broke the silence that flooded the room. "Why, Bill? Why?" He found himself asking, although he knew the answer already. Yet, he wanted to believe that his friend had other reasons for what he had done. Bill instantly rose, grazing past Brett and stopped on the wall. He placed a palm on the wallpaper design, tracing the spirals bit by bit, then he spoke. "You know what the smallest unit of life is?" He asked, turning to face them. Then he continued, "Data. Raw, untapped and unfiltered data." He paused for a s
