Red Plant

Lucas couldn’t stop his legs from taking two steps.

He didn’t need anyone to tell him that the woman he was staring at was his Mother.

Flashes of memories filled his head as he stared in disbelief.

Over two decades of being apart from the woman who birthed him caused him instant pain.

Scarlett saw two men who looked alike, but she knew which one of them was her lost son.

Tears freely trickled down her face as she looked at Lucas, wishing she could get on her feet and run to him.

She turned to one of the bodyguards. “Move faster.” She ordered, and the young man didn’t waste any time in adding more force to the wheel.

Lucas knelt in front of his Mother, sniffling as he grabbed her hands. “I never thought I was going to see you again. Mother!” The last word made him gasp; a new reality was setting in.

Scarlett leaned forward and embraced him, and he didn’t mind the tears that dropped on his suit.

While Mother and son were still engrossed in the euphoria of the moment, someone else walked out of the building, almost running until she saw Lucas.

“Lucas? Is that you?”

Briana was a female version of her brothers. Tall, classy, and with long blonde hair just like her mother.

Her blue orbs were soaked with tears, and soon the fluid started to drop.

Lucas stood up and walked up to her, and she inched closer by two steps.

“Is this really you?” Her eyes were focused on him, and slowly, she raised her hands to touch his face.

She felt his body and gasped, and more tears dropped.

Lucas sighed heavily. “I have heard so much about you, Briana. It feels so good to have a sister.”

Briana embraced him tightly, and just like her mother, she didn’t want to let go of him.

Logan stepped closer to his mother. “I told you he was alive, Mother. And that I was going to find him.” His smile showed that he was proud of himself, and his Mother was too.

Scarlett grabbed his hands, looked him in the eyes, and chuckled softly. “You have done well, Logan. Thank you for bringing him back.”

“He is my brother, Mother.” Logan suppressed his tears. “I always felt his presence.” He turned to Lucas and his smile returned.

When Lucas returned his gaze to his Mother and saw her condition, he shook his head. “How long have you been confined to that chair, Mother?”

“Since the accident, Lucas. It’s been over twenty years.” Scarlett looked at her legs and her frown disappeared.

She had already lost hope of ever walking again.

Logan rubbed her shoulder to console her, and she had to force a smile in order not to ruin the moment.

Lucas looked at her stiff legs, and even though he could see the scars and the disfigurement, he was not discouraged.

Logan was curious. “Can you do anything about Mother?” He asked, and being the only one who knew how gifted his brother was, he knew why Lucas was staring.

The Divine Healer grabbed the handle of the wheelchair and pushed his mother into the building himself.

His siblings and the two bodyguards followed at once, walking faster to catch up with him.

The stewards in the building were marveled when they saw the two brothers, they heard rumors that the Fodens had a lost son, but they didn’t believe entirely until that moment.

Not certain of the difference between the two of them, they stared at the puzzle in the form of two men.

Lucas made his Mother lie on the bed in her bedroom while his siblings watched from where they stood.

Gently, he felt her joints, and feeling the cracks in her bones, he let go of her.

Scarlett was anxious. “Is there any hope that I can walk again?” She didn’t seem ready for the answer, but Lucas was determined to heal his mother.

He sighed. “This is going to be my first gift to you, Mother.”

Turning to Logan, he inquired. “Is there any place I can get local herbs around here?”

“We have a garden here, Lucas.” Logan nodded. “Father used to plant a lot of flowers and plants when he was alive. I am sure you will remember when I take you there.”

Lucas’ face brightened. “Good. Take me there at once.”

He left with Logan while Briana stayed with her mother.

The two ladies didn’t know what to expect from the found heir of the Foden Empire, but he seemed to be more than they expected.

Lucas was the first to walk into the garden, and gradually, he remembered the place.

It was hard to picture some of the memories he shared with his father, but he felt his presence with a solemn sensation.

He searched everywhere, looking to see if he could find something useful.

Since Logan didn’t know what he was looking for, he just stood and watched with his arms folded.

“Found it!” Lucas announced happily after about thirty minutes, carefully holding onto the plant he had uprooted from its roots.

Logan didn’t think there was anything special about the red plant that almost looked withered, so he didn’t look as excited as his brother.

“Is this supposed to help, Mother?”

“Yes.” Lucas saw the doubt in his eyes and chuckled softly. “Don’t worry. You will find out soon.”

They returned to their Mother, and grabbing a plate, Lucas began to crush some of the leaves he plucked from the stem.

His family watched as he poured two drops of water and stirred until the reddish substance foamed.

Then he poured some of it into a cup and offered it to Scarlett.

“Drink.” He held the glass to her face, but she was reluctant to take it from him.

“What is this?”

“This is called a red almon plant, Mother. It will heal your legs.” Lucas saw the doubt cemented on his Mother’s face while she kept her eyes on the red substance in the glass.

“You have to trust me, Mother. I will never do anything to harm you, not when I just saw you after over two decades.”

  • Phoenix Sisters

Realizing that Lucas already suspected their actions, the Phoenix daughters looked away slowly, unable to deal with his stern look. “What do you want?” Lucas asked again, but it didn’t look like the response was coming anytime soon. He sighed. “Well, if you are not going to tell me why you are here, I think we should continue with the party. The night is still young, and I haven’t even had a glass of wine.” “Wait!” Lara stopped him from leaving, and because he wanted to have a taste of sweet wine, Logan gestured to the sommelier carrying a tray filled with champagne flutes. He grabbed two, offered one to Lucas, and took a sip. None of the Phoenix daughters was ready to speak, but seeing that Lucas was gradually losing his patience, Lara who was the eldest decided it was high time she broke the lingering silence. “My father is dying, Lucas!” She swallowed hard, and even the heavy sigh she heaved wasn’t enough to get rid of the anxiety that gripped her.Her utterance had us

  • The Welcome Party

The night looked like it was the best moment to witness as guests all over the city trooped into the Foden Estate in their numbers. Even though the premises of the Greenland Villa didn’t look like it was not going to be able to contain the sleek cars that were lined up like metallic snakes inside the parking lots, anyone who saw the luxurious cars was going to think that they had walked into an automobile company. Inside the hall were guests in their numbers, brandishing their expensive outfits that matched the color of the day- white. The chandeliers hanging above them scintillated their glitter into the champagne flutes that the sommeliers were serving the guests. Whispers, laughter, and exchange of pleasantries filled the air, but it didn’t sound like they were going to be able to overshadow the live performance of the best orchestra giving their best by the corner of the large hall. Everyone anticipated the arrival of the long-awaited celebrant, but Lucas seemed not to b
