Everyone looked towards the door as Christopher finally left.

At that moment, Victoria immediately rushed towards Helene, “Go go go, Helene, didn't you say Mister Robins of the Thorne family just invited you to Michelin? Don't be late.” She coaxed with a smile as she handed Helene's purse back to her. Helene took the purse with a smile and left the house.

Meanwhile, Christopher was on the street, angry at himself and at Helene and her family, “Helene, these past five years have been a waste on you. From now on, your family, the Sebastians have nothing to do with me.”

"Sigh" he shook his head in dejection, “I will need to find a job as soon as possible so I can raise up money for Allison's bills. If her treatment stops, there's no telling what will happen after that.”

At that moment, the blaring horn of a car sounded so loud, and Christopher jumped to the other side of the road without thinking. A black Mercedes sped by without stopping, it crushed his suitcase and kept on going. Meanwhile he scraped his knee while dodging the speeding vehicle. Christopher was furious. Just as he was about to curse at the reckless driver, a blue translucent panel appeared in front of his eyes, and a female's voice sounded in his brain.

«Ding!

Host has severed the thread of Fate by surviving a moment of death.

System reconfiguration to suit new Fate designs.»

«Ding!

System reconfiguration complete. System will issue out tasks and rewards based on Fate’s new design.»

Christopher was floored. Had he hit his head somewhere? No. Perhaps all the anger had made blood rush to his head and disrupt all brain signals, making him hallucinate. But the mysterious blue panel wasn't finished.

«Ding!

Now calculating transferred assets and compensation for Host due to the new design.»

«Ding!

Calculation complete. Due to Host no longer being sent off to be reincarnated into the world of Solaris, Fate has grafted a new design, and Host has been rewarded with a hundred thousand dollars as compensation.»

«Ding!

First task: Spending spree!

Description: As your first bucket of gold, host must mustn't be frugal. Spend on whatever catches your fancy or on anything meaningful.

Reward: Host will get up to 10× rebate on whatever he spends. Host will also be granted other rewards as well.»

At that moment, Christopher's phone buzzed in his pocket. He took it out, and the message he saw made his eyes almost pop out. He even questioned his reality. The message on his phone read,

“Credit Notification:

Wells Fargo Bank, Account number 241XXXXX73 has been credited with $100,000

Current Balance $100,057”

“The fuck!!” Christopher couldn't help but curse out in shock. Did he really just received a hundred thousand? He immediately turned around, as if searching for a hidden film crew, but when he saw nothing and no one except normal people going about their businesses, Christopher let out a sigh of relief.

“It's really real huh? Who knew God hasn't abandoned me yet.” He said as he chuckled. Just then, his laugh slowly stops, and his expression darkened. If he was still married to Helene, surely this would have called for a joyous moment as he'd buy whatever she desires, even investing all the funds into the company.. but now? Christopher's fist clenched and unclenched,

“Now I'll make sure to ruin them, and take back every single penny I've spent on them. I'll run them to the ground and make sure they never get up again.” Unbridled fury painted his face, “You took everything from me and left me with nothing, I'll make sure you experience what this feeling is like.” Christopher swore through gritted teeth.

*

Christopher had just checked into a five-star hotel. Since he had money now, there was no need to be stingy on himself, and besides, the system had clearly stated that he'd receive up to 10× rebate on any amount spent, so rather than losing money, wasn't he earning more money instead? So the more he spent, the better. After all, the system's 10× rebate might just be his only way to rise, and Christopher was going to use every second of it to rake in so much funds and assets.

«Ding!

Detected Host spent $30,000.

2× rebate activate.

Host has received $60,000.»

“Hahaha! Sixty thousand dollars, just like that.” Christopher smiled. Am really going love this system of mine. At that moment, his stomach growled. He realized that due to the argument back at the house, he hadn't ate anything. But why eat alone, how would he rake in more funds if he spent only on himself. So he immediately took out his phone and dialed a number

“Hello Chris, finally decided to call me, huh?” The voice on the other end was a bit gruff.

“Knock it off Zander, I just called you a week ago to check on you.” Christopher said and rolled his eyes, but before Zander to retort, he continued, “Call Aaron, you two should meet me at the 3rd avenue.” Christopher said.

“Alright, is there any problem?” Aaron sounded concerned.

“Not really, I just won some money, so am going to treat my buddies to lunch at the Michelin.” Christopher said.

“Wow, the Michelin! You got it man! We'll be there faster than a Bugatti.” Zander replied, his tone was that of happiness.

“He really do love Bugatti, don't you.” Christopher said and laughed before hanging up.

He turned and left the hotel suite he's booked for the day, he was heading straight for the Michelin.

Meanwhile, in an opulent office, a beautiful lady sat in an office chair, scrolling through a tablet she held. Just then, her office door swung open and her secretary burst inside.

“Ms Mellah, the invitates have all been sent out. We also have a Thorne attending the banquet.” the secretary said frantically.

“A Thorne?” The young lady, Mellah asked calmly.

“Yes Ma'am, Robins Thorne.” The secretary replied with a slight unease, “Your fiance, Mr Robinson.”

At that moment, Mellah stopped scrolling on the tablet, and instead stared at her secretary. “Who sent him an invite?” she asked, her voice full of venom.

“Your father did Miss Mellah, I just found out.” The secretary handed her a tablet.

“His name has been listed as one of the VIPs.”

Mellah was staring at the tablet, her brows furrowed, not liking the news she had just received. “Robins. We've been betrothed since birth, yet we've barely seen each other. Even after he returned from the capital he didn't come to see me. He's always fooling around with other women! Why is father so consistent on this marriage?” she muttered with anger, she then turned to her secretary, “This changes nothing. Inform me as soon as he arrives.”

The secretary nods, “Yes Miss Mellah.”

“Prepare the car, let's go have lunch.”

“Yes Ma'am.” The secretary replied and left Mellah in the office.

“Robins Thorne, just what does my father see in you?” She balled her fists, “I don't plan on getting married to anyone anytime soon. I'll use this banquet to annull our engagement. Bear that in mind.” She said and then took the desk phone. She dialed a number, waiting for the other side to pick up. It was time to set her plans in motion.

*Ding! Dong!*This was the second time Christopher had pressed the doorbell. He had gotten the address from the hotel he was staying. And now, he's here to meet Carl's wife face to face.“Coming!” A female voice sounded from inside the apartment. Few seconds later, the door clicked open, and a young pregnant lady stood at the door. She had puffy eyes, which was evidence of intense crying.-sniff- “I'm sorry, who are you?”Christopher took in her appearance, steeling his mind, he decided to lay it all down. “Hello Mrs Henderson. I'm Christopher Bond. I was your husband's…” he took a deep breath, “My condolences. Your husband was assigned as my driver, and I was with him when it all happened. I'm sorry.”For almost thirty seconds, no one spoke, and then, she did the only logical thing Christopher knew any woman would've done in that situation.. she slammed the door in his face.-sigh- “I had an idea it won't be easy.” Christopher muttered to himself before pressing the doorbell button a

“Hahahahahahaha!” Ethan burst into laughter. He pointed at Christopher while laughing, “Holy Shit!! This has got to be the most fucked up shit I've seen all week! Hahahahaha!”“For a second there I almost believed he had the money to back up his claim given his confidence.” Someone chimed.“I already knew he was all bark and no bite!” Another said. The flirty salesgirl, Susan turned to Eliza who was still standing behind Christopher, and with a smug smile on her face, “Do you regret it now Eliza? Choosing to give this broke loser face instead of Young Master Ethan?.”Meanwhile Christopher is confused as he could not understand why the transaction failed, he knew very well the amount in his account, which should be enough to buy both villas, and he'd even still have enough for any miscellaneous spending if he so wish.“Check your POS machine.” Christopher said.“What? It's broken?” Ethan said with feigned surprise, “Really? I had no idea.” He sighed and shook his head with feigned pity

  • CHAPTER 11: TRANSACTION FAILED

[TRION CITY AIRPORT. TRION CITY].Robins stepped out of the plane with ten burly men in black suits walking behind him.‘I wonder why the system didn't give me a reward for killing that pauper. I always get rewards for eliminating rivals and opponents.’ Robins thought to himself. ‘Perharps my system is still processing my reward.’ he thought to himself with a smug expression, ‘He’ a fellow system user, I wonder how huge my reward this action will be.. oh I can’t wait!.’ He kept mulling over the matter in his mind as they arrived outside the airport building, and there a beautiful lady was waiting. It was Helene Sebastian.“Robins darling, you're back.” Helene said in a coy tone.Robins forced out a smile, “Yes love, did you miss me?”“You bet I do, I really missed you a lot.” She said and walked up to him, kissing him on the lips. “Come, let's go home, I want to show you new skills I've learnt while you were away.” She said and led him to the limo beside them. What Helene failed to se

  • CHAPTER 10: ROBINS' PLOT

Christopher's mind swirled around his earlier verbal confrontation with Robins. Surely this license was of extreme importance to Robins for him to chase after him to ask for it outside the auction house. Robins had tried outbidding him but as the amount reached sixty million dollars, Robins had backed off.“Perhaps his system has special conditions that must be met before he is rewarded with any cash, otherwise a system user like Robins won't be so broke.” Christopher muttered. What he failed to understand was that his view of money had changed. In the past, a thousand dollars was already more than enough to put a joyful smile on his face.. Now he viewed sixty million as being broke. “What exactly am I going to do with the license anyway? It's not like I'm into crypto or stock trades.” Christopher mused as he patted his breast pocket where the items were kept.“Mister Bond, Sir. It seems we're being followed.” The chauffeur said. Christopher turned and glanced back. Behind them were t

How may I help you?” The female receptionist said while flashing a smile that seemed more seductive than professional. “I'm here for the auction, can you get me a room?” Christopher replied. “Do you have any reservation, Sir?” She asked. “No. Can I not get any room without a reservation?” “That's not what I meant Sir, just that almost all the rooms have been reserved in advance. The only free rooms are the top-tiers, and they cost a million dollars…” “I'll take it.” Christopher cu
