“Hey Christopher, don't ignore me. Don't tell me you're just here for the free WiFi.” Helene said with a smirk.
“Helene! Watch your language!” Zander said with a raised voice. “What? Did I say something wrong?” She asked with feigned innocence, “He left with nothing. He doesn't even have one hundred dollar on him. After this meal, are you three going to wash dishes to pay for it?” Christopher was about to respond, but at that moment, he got a system notification. «Ding! New Side Quest: Domination Description: Host is being looked down upon. As a future tycoon and wealth master, Host must never take such insults without retaliation. Mission: Shut down Helene Sebastian and Robins Thorne without appearing childish. Reward: Depends on Host’s performance.» Seeing Christopher open and shut his mouth without saying a word to retaliate Helene's statement, a smug look appeared on the young man's face, “Helene, your ex-husband probably just wants to make one last show.” He said as he placed his hand around Helene's waist. He was clearly asserting dominance. The smug look on his face was clearly saying, ‘So what if you're a system user, in the end you've lost your wife to me, and so will you lose everything else to me.’ “He's divorced now, so he won't get another chance to show off.” Robins said, and then waved his hand to the nearby waiter, “Waiter, I'll take care of this table's bill, so they don't skip out later.” “No need, I can pay for myself.” Christopher said nonchalantly, “Am certain you're not dumb enough to believe I can't.” He continued as he sipped on a glass of water. Robins brows creased to a frown, but before he could retort, Helene jumped in, “Afford it? Christopher? A nobody like you? You max out at 500 dollars a month. And a meal here is over a thousand dollars per person. We both know three months of your salary can't even cover one meal. What are you going to pay with? With your maxed out credit card?” “Helene! That's going too far!” Aaron said in annoyance while pointing a finger at her. “Chris has…” “Aaron!” Christopher cut him off, “Sit down.” “Helene, we shouldn't bother ourselves with broke losers, and most especially not with someone who just got a helping hand and probably haven't made a single dollar from it. Like I said, I'll be the bigger man and help them clear their bill, else they might skip out later and cause some embarrassment.” Robins said, and then with his hand around Helene's waist, he guided her to a table opposite Christopher's, “I've booked a French cuisine lunch, the chef will serve us personally.” With a smug look he continued, “You said last time you wanted black truffles. Today I specifically asked the restaurant to fly them in from France.” “Robins, you're so good to me” Helene said coyly as she sat down, “Unlike some people who only prepare spaghetti with Oregano sauce. So hillbilly.” Aaron and Zander were practically gritting their teeth at Helene and Robin's words. But Christopher barely showed any emotion as he nonchalantly sipped the water. But on the inside, he was anything but calm. “System, can't you analyze and find out what kind of system this Robins possess? Is it same with mine?” «Ding! Reporting to Host. The individual, Robins Thorne possess the ???? System. Failure on his unique system analysis. Every system is unique and can only be bound to one host at a time.» “So you're saying this guy is making use of another kind of system? Does it also reward him with cash?” «Ding! Reporting to Host. All system reward their users with cash and skills, though the mode of getting this rewards varies. For example, you only need to spend money to get rewards, another user might need to kill enemies to get rewards, and another might have to work on specific projects and tasks to earn rewards.» Christopher calmed a bit. He had been a bit scared Robins might also possess his kind of system. “They're probably just here to gawk.” Helene said as she saw Christopher spacing out. But Robins didn't reply, he knew exactly why Christopher was spaced out. 'He's probably communicating with his system. Sonofabitch probably just recently got his system. I wonder what kind of system he's using. Doesn't matter, I'll still suppress him, his system is probably just trashy.’ Robins fumed on the inside, but a sweet smile on was still plastered on his face. “Helene, let's not spoil their fun.” Robins said as the chef came over their table with a tray of dishes. “Good evening Sir and Madam. Tonight, I'll prepare a customized lunch for you.” The chef said. “Did you hear that? The chef said he'll tailor the menu for us tonight.” Robins said with a raised voice so even Christopher will hear it. “Robins, you're so impressive.” Helene praised with stars practically shining in her eyes. “Sigh! Some people spend thousands of dollars to hire a chef, and have him speak a couple of French phrases, and think they're celebrities.” Christopher said, and then shook his head as if he's feeling pity for someone, “Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! I'd rather spend a few bucks on a translation app and listen to as much French as I want.” Christopher's words literally shut down the excitement at Robins' table as both Robins and Helene felt awkward, but Helene, being thick skinned recovered immediately, “Robins, don't you think some people who can't afford it still come sit in a place like this? Aren't they embarrassed?” Robins immediately burst into laughter, “Maybe they're trying to soak up some class. So they can go back to their hillbilly friends and brag about it.” Christopher didn't pay them any heed, but he waved to a waitress, “Excuse me, we'd like to order.” Taking the menu from the waitress, Christopher began ordering, “Two Boston lobsters, three M12 Australian beef, two dozen gillardeau oysters, three black truffle risottos. As for dessert, get us Opera cake, and…” “Chris, that's enough. That's plenty already.” Zander immediately cut Christopher off with a pat on his shoulder. “How much is all these going to cost?” “Chris Bro, let's keep it reasonable. You left with nothing, how are we going to pay for all these. Maybe Zander and I can chip in.” Aaron said. Christopher merely smiled, “Don't worry, it's chump change.” He handed the menu back to the waitress. “Go get our order.” “Yes Sir.” The waitress said with a smile and went off with a smile. “Look at him, trying to act like a big shot. Ordering all this. He's going to be so embarrassed when he can't pay.” Helene said, but Robins didn't reply. He knew for Christopher to order all these meant he had the money for it, but he refused to believe Christopher had even made a single cent from his system. Besides, his own system gave him tasks that always at least a week at minimum, to yield any rewards, so how could Christopher get any rewards from his system just few hours after breakup. Perhaps he's just ordering all these to impress Helene and win her back. Thinking of this, a smug look appeared on face and a dangerous glint flashed through his eyes. “Don't worry about that loser. He will soon face the consequences of his decision.” Robins replied, then shared his insight with Helene, this made Helene sneer. “Christopher, you're still trying to win me over, aren't you? You're still not over me.” Helene said. “Ordering all these on purpose to get my attention.” “You're overthinking it. Don't put yourself on a pedestal, am just buying lunch for my friends.” At that moment, the waitress brought all the dishes Christopher ordered. Seeing so much food, Aaron and Zander felt reluctant to eat, but Christopher urged them to eat. Few minutes had gone by and only Christopher felt at ease eating, while his two friends ate with hesitation even though the food was almost fijished. Seeing this scene, Helene burst into laughter. “Christopher, you're not thinking of dining and dashing, are you?” she said. “Right, am calling the manager. Let's see if he can pay. If he can't afford it, he can wash dishes in the kitchen to pay off.” Robins replied, “Manager!” The manager was soon called over. She came with the waitress that had served Christopher's table. “Sir, your bill for this meal is exactly one hundred thousand dollars. Would you mind settling the bill now?” Christopher didn't argue, he simply cleaned his mouth and hands with the napkin, then brought out his debit card. “Swipe it.” He said, and went back to eating. The waitress swiped the card on the POS machine, and immediately went through. Meanwhile, Christopher was checking the system's message. «Ding! Detected Host spending $100,000. 1.5× cashback activated. Host has been rewarded with $150,000.» Helene immediately stood up, “The card actually went through?” She said with genuine shock on her face. “Run the payment for that table as well. It's not good if they skip out later. They might just dine and dash.” Chris said with pity written on his face, “Some people might dress nicely, but they're actually too broke to buy food at a roadside food stall.” The waitress ran the card again and it went through. Meanwhile Christopher was waiting for the system's cashback, but there wasn't any. ‘Oi, system, where my cashback. I just dropped over fifty-six thousand, why isn't the rebate function working?’ he queried the system in annoyance, but the system just gave a simple response. «Ding! Host paid for a meal he didn't eat.» At that moment, Robins face was totally burning red, and he crushed the wineglass he was drinking from. Christopher was about retort at the system, but seeing how Robins behaved, he merely turned to him with smug look, “Some people just don't like when they're being helped out. Perhaps they're too broke and ashamed to acknowledge their benefactor, don't you agree, Mister Robins?.”Latest Chapter
CHAPTER 13: I'M SORRY
*Ding! Dong!*This was the second time Christopher had pressed the doorbell. He had gotten the address from the hotel he was staying. And now, he's here to meet Carl's wife face to face.“Coming!” A female voice sounded from inside the apartment. Few seconds later, the door clicked open, and a young pregnant lady stood at the door. She had puffy eyes, which was evidence of intense crying.-sniff- “I'm sorry, who are you?”Christopher took in her appearance, steeling his mind, he decided to lay it all down. “Hello Mrs Henderson. I'm Christopher Bond. I was your husband's…” he took a deep breath, “My condolences. Your husband was assigned as my driver, and I was with him when it all happened. I'm sorry.”For almost thirty seconds, no one spoke, and then, she did the only logical thing Christopher knew any woman would've done in that situation.. she slammed the door in his face.-sigh- “I had an idea it won't be easy.” Christopher muttered to himself before pressing the doorbell button a
CHAPTER 12: MASSIVE COMEBACK
“Hahahahahahaha!” Ethan burst into laughter. He pointed at Christopher while laughing, “Holy Shit!! This has got to be the most fucked up shit I've seen all week! Hahahahaha!”“For a second there I almost believed he had the money to back up his claim given his confidence.” Someone chimed.“I already knew he was all bark and no bite!” Another said. The flirty salesgirl, Susan turned to Eliza who was still standing behind Christopher, and with a smug smile on her face, “Do you regret it now Eliza? Choosing to give this broke loser face instead of Young Master Ethan?.”Meanwhile Christopher is confused as he could not understand why the transaction failed, he knew very well the amount in his account, which should be enough to buy both villas, and he'd even still have enough for any miscellaneous spending if he so wish.“Check your POS machine.” Christopher said.“What? It's broken?” Ethan said with feigned surprise, “Really? I had no idea.” He sighed and shook his head with feigned pity
CHAPTER 11: TRANSACTION FAILED
[TRION CITY AIRPORT. TRION CITY].Robins stepped out of the plane with ten burly men in black suits walking behind him.‘I wonder why the system didn't give me a reward for killing that pauper. I always get rewards for eliminating rivals and opponents.’ Robins thought to himself. ‘Perharps my system is still processing my reward.’ he thought to himself with a smug expression, ‘He’ a fellow system user, I wonder how huge my reward this action will be.. oh I can’t wait!.’ He kept mulling over the matter in his mind as they arrived outside the airport building, and there a beautiful lady was waiting. It was Helene Sebastian.“Robins darling, you're back.” Helene said in a coy tone.Robins forced out a smile, “Yes love, did you miss me?”“You bet I do, I really missed you a lot.” She said and walked up to him, kissing him on the lips. “Come, let's go home, I want to show you new skills I've learnt while you were away.” She said and led him to the limo beside them. What Helene failed to se
CHAPTER 10: ROBINS' PLOT
Christopher's mind swirled around his earlier verbal confrontation with Robins. Surely this license was of extreme importance to Robins for him to chase after him to ask for it outside the auction house. Robins had tried outbidding him but as the amount reached sixty million dollars, Robins had backed off.“Perhaps his system has special conditions that must be met before he is rewarded with any cash, otherwise a system user like Robins won't be so broke.” Christopher muttered. What he failed to understand was that his view of money had changed. In the past, a thousand dollars was already more than enough to put a joyful smile on his face.. Now he viewed sixty million as being broke. “What exactly am I going to do with the license anyway? It's not like I'm into crypto or stock trades.” Christopher mused as he patted his breast pocket where the items were kept.“Mister Bond, Sir. It seems we're being followed.” The chauffeur said. Christopher turned and glanced back. Behind them were t
CHAPTER 9: AUCTION & TAKEOUT
[AVARIA AUCTION HOUSE. AVARIA CITY]. A white Rolls-Royce Ghost up in front a two storey high-end building. This was the auction house, and tonight was the auction. “Mister Bond, we've arrived.” His chauffeur said as he opened the door for Christopher. “Go have dinner, but be back here before the auction is over.” Christopher said as he walked towards the entrance of the auction house. “Yes, Mister Bond.” The chauffeur said with a deep bow. “Good evening Sir, and welcome to the Avaria Auction House. How may I help you?” The female receptionist said while flashing a smile that seemed more seductive than professional. “I'm here for the auction, can you get me a room?” Christopher replied. “Do you have any reservation, Sir?” She asked. “No. Can I not get any room without a reservation?” “That's not what I meant Sir, just that almost all the rooms have been reserved in advance. The only free rooms are the top-tiers, and they cost a million dollars…” “I'll take it.” Christopher cu
CHAPTER 8: THE CAPITAL
[AVARIA CAPITAL CITY. TWO DAYS LATER]. A white Rolls-Royce Ghost pulled up in front of a tall well designed building. This was the five star hotel, Hotel Grand Royal, one of the five major Hotels in Avaria Capital City. A well dressed chauffeur stepped out of the driver seat and opened the back door, and out steps a young man, his black hair gelled back, skin well toned, his blue Italian suit looking so immaculate one would think it was directly imported by the heavens itself. “Welcome back mister Bond.” The doorman greeted the dazzling young man who only nodded in return and walked in. “Good day Mister Bond, the chef asked me to let you know that the dish you requested could be prepared at your leisure.” The concierge said, and the young man nodded in acknowledgement, heading straight for the VIP elevator.. heading straight for the Presidential villa. The presidential villa opened and the young man stepped in. “Well, in a few hours I’d be able to get the license I need to start
