Martha appeared beside Aethan in a flash of light, her skin glowing resplendently like a human-shaped rainbow. She stared at Aethan's wrinkled brows with a smile, then waved her arms.

A sphere of light conjured between her hands swiftly, before rolling over Aethan's body and destroying the black matter oozing out of his pores.

A black cloud billowed upwards, a relaxed smile appeared on Aethan's face right after, and his eyes fluttered open.

He had successfully broken through, and become a First-Circle Sorcerer!

A Crimson Core had formed within his lower belly, rotating slowly on its axis as it naturally pulled Aether as he cultivated. When he broke out of his cultivation though, the Core stopped rotating.

The Crimson Core was both corporeal and intangible at the same time. It floated in a space that seemingly contained it, yet looked to be too large at the same time.

Aethan didn't mind this too much though. He couldn't understand why it was that way, so he saved his brain power for something else.

“I can think faster…” Aethan mumbled, clenching and unclenching his fists. "And I'm stronger too."

He raised his gaze to his mother's, and her smile widened. She moved closer to him and patted his head, rubbing off a few specs of tiny dust particles that had settled on it.

“Congratulations, Aethan Narok, your journey has begun,” Martha said.

Aethan's brows wrinkled for a second, before he shook his head and stood to his feet. Then, he said:

"You and father sometimes confuse me with your words,” he uttered with a dry smile on his face.

Martha chuckled softly.

Aethan shifted forward and stretched his limbs. “I'll get going now, me and Father are going hunting,” Aethan said and began running in a direction, reveling in his new speed.

"Thanks for the quick bath by the way!” He added loudly some seconds later, disappearing into the distance.

Martha turned back and walked into the Manor while humming a tune, resuming her stitching in silence.

Their manor was situated in a secluded area, though not so secluded as one might think. They had neighbors, but since the houses were sparse and dotted all around chaotically, it was hard to come across a neighbor without actively seeking them.

Aethan and Darion were on their way to a nearby Forest to hunt. They did this daily, letting Aethan accumulate more vitality and energy in his body, thus making it stronger and more mature.

He looked more mature than his age, almost like a 19-year-old, when he was barely 16. This wasn't only caused by the vitality flowing through his body, but also by the Aether. His father told him not to be concerned about that, because he would meet people his age who also looked more mature than their age suggested.

He mentioned that there were only a rare few who didn't look much older than their age, but younger instead. His older brother Orien, for example, looked like an 18-year-old, when in actuality he was a 21-year-old man.

This was weird in Aethan's purview, but he accepted the information gladly.

One of the other reasons they hunted daily was so Aethan could gain an Element in time, and start training with it.

According to his father, the Eclipse Sect wasn't a place for those with weak talents—or weakness as a whole. Strength determined if you would survive in there, and proving you had strength before entry gave you a headstart.

The Narok family didn't have a particular Element tied to them, so it wasn't a surprise when Merek had an affinity for Metal, their father, Earth, his mother, Light, and his other siblings, Water, Ice and Blue Wind.

This family was considered above average, because it was very rare for every member of a family to have an affinity for Aether, and an Element.

This not only made them stronger, it made them respected too, due to their known good deeds and services to the Kingdom.

Merek was an Iron Captain, a high rank in the Order of the Black Lance—an Order whose sole purpose was to protect their Kingdom, Thalerion.

He once in a while went on patrols with his unit, not just to show off or flaunt his status, like most powerful people did, but to actually safeguard the towns and villages he could.

His younger brother Orien, was a 3-Star Mercenary, respected for his regular completion of missions, both mundane and magical.

He was known by the locals for helping in completing mundane missions, therefore saving them the risk of sustaining injuries. In his Guild though, he was known as someone who mostly took Low Tier missions, which were also considered mundane, making him weak in the eyes of many.

Regardless, he did it diligently, saving a lot of old and young people alike, from going on dangerous or perilous quests.

Selene and Astrid were both married to Barons, living happily with their new families.

They weren't really reputable outside their regular works as Baronesses, but they did well enough to gain the recognition of the people in their towns and multiple villages.

Astrid was married to the Baron overseeing their Barony, while Selene was married to a Baron in a neighboring Barony.

Their mother, Martha Narok, was a housewife, but she sometimes tended to the injured who came to her.

As a Light Elemental Sorcerer, she was adept at healing and reinvigorating, so she helped when she could.

Last, but not the least, the man of the house, Darion Narok. A 6-Star Mercenary, known as the Impregnable Shield.

Known for his impenetrable defences and unyielding resolve, he had fought deadly abominations to protect the Town during a dungeon outbreak, and saved many lives in the process.

This not only earned him more Stars in his Guild, it also made him the hero of the Town, and he was recognized by many.

Though he could be a little too playful and unserious at times, he knew when to ignore all forms of distractions and get serious in important or desperate situations.

A few minutes into Aethan's run, he met up with his father, and they took a trail leading towards the Forest.

The Forest was controlled, so there weren't many beasts to hunt anyway. The fact that they had been going there on a daily basis for a long time only made the beasts more sparse.

Darion walked ahead of Aethan, his sixth sense scanning the vicinity as he moved.

“This would be one of your last hunts, so make the best of it,” Darion said, taking a sharp turn to the left.

“I will, father," Aethan answered from behind.

“What will I be hunting today by the way?" He asked curiously, his ears perking up.

Darion didn't slow down in his steps, replying smoothly as if he was expecting the question.

"Typhoon Horses," Darion said with a slight grin. "Fast, wild and a little too proud for their own good. Perfect for testing that new strength of yours."

  • White Tiger

Aethan dashed forward at his fastest speed, cutting a straight line path towards the , his blades flashing with Runes simultaneously, sparking and weaving spells into reality seamlessly. He hadn't slacked off when learning Gale and Thunder spells, and he had successfully learnt two more spells tailored purely for attacking with his swords. The first spell activated swiftly, drawing Aether from the atmosphere to conjure several bolts of Thunder. These Thunderbolts then wrapped around Volt Edge, making the metal heat up and turn red-hot. And due to the metal having a good affinity for Lightning element and its variants, it easily absorbed the Thunder Aether, channeling its raw destructive heat for a powerful slash. In the next instant, Aethan swung his blade diagonally at the White Tiger, leaving red-blue afterimages behind. There was no pause in his movements. He swung the second blade vertically, delivering an overhead slash while shooting a crescent wind blade at the same time.

  • Calm Before The Storm

A few days later, Merek and Aethan arrived at a wide plain, their eyes set on the massive structure standing alone in the distance. They stood at the edge of a cliff at least a hundred metres tall, but neither looked down to see how close to the cliff’s edge they were. How could they? The massive structure in the distance had taken their attention away. “It never ceases to amaze me,” Merek whispered to himself. He turned to the side to look at Aethan, and he wasn’t surprised to see him also staring ahead too, right at the structure, his eyes widened and his mouth opened subtly. Merek let him take in the beauty of the Eclipse Sect. After all, the building was worthy of such a reaction—and it was also where Aethan’s new life would begin. Just ahead of them, about six hundred metres away, stood a fortress. It had tall walls rounding its entirety—walls so high it rivaled a ten story building—with numerous ballistas and cannons lining some sections of the walls. There were no guards

  • The Rings' Secrets

Merek went on to explain what the ring was and what it did. Turns out the bandit leader was a Solid State First-Circle Sorcerer, and not a Second-Circle Sorcerer like they thought. The Ring of Tidal Resonance was the cause of this. It amplified one's affinity for Water element and increased their control over it; so that's why his spells, though First-Circle, almost felt like Second-Circle. It also explained why Aethan never saw him use his Totembeast. He was quite expectant of it, wanting to see how he fared against a Second-Circle Sorcerer. “Aethan, do you know anything about Artifacts?" Merek suddenly said, snapping Aethan out of his thoughts. "Not much. Why?"Merek paused for a second, seemingly gathering his thoughts. Then he spoke. "An artifact is a powerful tool created by enchanting an equipment.”Aethan raised a brow. “Is that all?" He asked, confused, to which Merek shook his head. “Have you heard of… Primordial Artifacts?”Aethan narrowed his eyes, his mind churning

  • Shadow of The Totembeast

The crimson waves around Aethan began to spiral in a calm, but tension-triggering manner, wrapping around him like a reaper's mantle. The bandit leader was crippled by fear, his pupils constricting into pinholes and his body losing all functions. He didn't even know when he shit his pants and began quivering like he had been dipped in a vat of ice. Cold sweat matted his back, his attempts at pleading for his life failing under Aethan's tight grip on his jaws. Merek watched this from behind, sitting calmly upon Ignaroth without moving a muscle; he couldn't care less if the bandits died. Their job was a risky one anyway, and they had just drawn the short end of the stick. What he was most interested in was the crimson aura revolving around Aethan, as it was a sign of a Totembeast being used. If Merek so wished, he could emanate a fiery aura reminiscent of Ignaroth, and burn opponents weaker than him, or strengthen his attacks with it. Now, seeing this display, he remembered the tal

  • Three Moves

The destructive spheres closed in on Aethan, curving towards him like homing missiles. The deadly intent behind each one was as great as the other, and Aethan could literally see the sneer on the Water Mage’s face. He could make out what he was thinking, but Aethan was unfazed in the face of it all. He still had an arsenal of unused spells, ranging from Common, all the way up to Legendary. If the bandits thought they had him cornered, then they were in for a rude awakening. “Bl'u!" Aethan voiced out a Rune, and his Aether connected with the world, sparking a spell into existence. Gale and Thunder gathered above, morphing into a fierce spherical creation. Then just as quickly as it appeared, the air around it was suddenly compressed, and a strong electromagnetic wave was released from the electrical charges. These two procedures resulted in it creating a powerful suction force that affected the surrounding twenty meters! And the closer one was to the spell, the stronger the pull on

  • Bandits

Aethan landed nimbly on the ground before Ignaroth, shifting his gaze to one of the bandits—who he assumed to be the leader—their eyes locked in a furious exchange, neither looking away nor blinking for a second. The bandit leader tensed upon sensing that Merek was of a higher Circle, but him not moving gave him an idea of what was going on—or at least, what he thought Merek was thinking. He believed that Merek was using them—the bandits—as training for Aethan, thinking that if things went south he could swoop in and save Aethan. However…'Cocky bastard,’ the bandit leader thought, his expression not hinting at his cunning thoughts. ‘He'll be dead before you can even think of moving!’Then suddenly, both exploded into action, erupting with attacks that even took the other bandits off guard.Where was the signal?! Hadn't they all planned the attack together?!— Those were the bandits’ thoughts.Unfortunately, their leader had seen something dangerous, and he didn't believe the newbie
