Hidden Enmity

A dark skinned boy with flowing, short white hair rolled to the side nimbly, dodging out of the way of a hammer strike and popping back to his feet in one fluid motion.

He pushed off the ground right after, crossing the short distance between himself and his target before punching out as hard as he could.

A mystical swirl of translucent energy layered over his fist—hardening to protect his fist and boost his attack power—and as it landed on his opponent's torso, a dull boom resounded.

However, Darion didn't budge an inch, not even registering the punch as his knee was already flying towards Aethan's head.

Aethan's eyes widened, and he moved back, his palm driving forward and parrying the knee strike smoothly.

“That's cheating, Father!" Aethan groaned, a cold look in his eyes.

"It's not cheating," Darion responded. “I'm just making use of my advantages.”

A frown crawled up Aethan's face, and his eyes flashed with a red light for a split second.

Darion laughed uproariously upon seeing Aethan's reaction, dropping his hammer to the ground and causing the earth to quake.

Aethan turned out to be almost like his other sons; hotheaded, brash and impulsive. Almost.

He would make some irrational decisions sometimes, but that didn't mean he was dumb. He was only young and didn't have much experience. Besides, it had only been a few months since he awakened the Narok Bloodline, so he was still new to a lot of things.

His father knew precisely how the power worked, so he had done just enough to give his son the strength to move.

The Narok Bloodline was unique. Only one Ability had been discovered so far, which was draining a 'living’ target's Blood Essence through touch, but it was enough as Blood Essence Extraction came with multiple perks.

One of those perks was gaining an affinity for an Element after accumulating enough Essence of the said Element through the absorbed Blood Essences.

This was not only a surefire way to become an Arcane Sorcerer, but also another way of improving one's affinity and mastery of any Element.

Darion knew all these, and he took advantage of it. He brought the bodies of recently killed beasts to Aethan, allowing him to absorb their Blood Essence and start accumulating Elements while getting better.

Gaining an affinity for an Element wasn't as easy as it sounded though. It took time, years sometimes—according to his father.

But that wasn't his father's concern at the moment. Aethan could figure it all out by himself in the future, but firstly, he had to absorb enough energy and vitality, using the Blood Essence Extraction, and get a body strong enough to produce a Core and start Cultivating, and practicing Martial Arts too.

Aethan was diligent and extracted enough Blood Essence to finally take his first step since birth. The day that happened, Martha's joy knew no bounds.

She beamed with joy, so much so that she lost control of her Element for a second, making her body glow like a miniature Sun.

Darion felt proud and half fulfilled too. His son was well on his way to becoming one of the strongest persons in the Kingdom, the Empire even. But he still needed to build his foundation… after all, he had yet to accumulate enough energy to form a Core.

“Cultivate while I prepare for our next hunt," Darion said after he was done reminiscing. “Your brother will return in a few days, and I need you to be ready for your journey.”

Aethan's eyes glowed with excitement upon hearing the last sentence.

The last few months had been hectic for him. Mostly because his father was preparing him for his journey to another part of the Kingdom, a place where most children of his age were sent.

The Eclipse Sect!

The Eclipse Sect was founded by Aeris Valen, so he had heard, a powerful dual affinity Ninth-Circle Mage.

He was spoken off as an infamous legend known to dabble into Forbidden and Cursed Magic.

Aeris Valen had long created the Eclipse Sect before it was discovered, but because the Sect had produced formidable Warriors and Mages over time, it was left to thrive ‘on its own.’

The Nobility and some organizations seeked to have ties with the Sect, but the Eclipse Sect shunned everyone, powerful and influential or not.

The Sect's authorities knew that they only wanted to take control of them and their resources to train soldiers for their own benefits. This led to a situation where the Nobility and organizations had a grudge with them. And though this grudge was unwarranted and petty, since it was general, they secretly were the enemy of all large organizations and Nobles, except the Guilds and a rare few.

On the surface though, hiding all of the enmity behind, it was one of the two best organizations for the study of Magic, Martial Arts and Totembeast Binding. The other organization being the Shardbinder Academy, an Academy created by the Nobles and Church working together.

They did so in order to have a place where their own scions and future Warriors could be trained.

Since the Eclipse Sect decided to cut themselves off from them, they would prove to them that they weren't needed.

Aethan sat on the ground in the silent meditation, his concentration reaching its peak as his energy surged.

His control over Aether, the magical energy used for casting spells and techniques, was superb. It was already on par with a Mage of the First-Circle, when he wasn't even one yet.

To become a First-Circle Sorcerer, one had to form their Aether Core—an ethereal construct within the body that stored Aether, allowing it to be harnessed for casting spells and performing techniques.

Aethan was very close to forming his Aether Core. He had accumulated a lot of Aether and stored it in his body, which he was using to temper it.

His brother had taught him a Technique he could use to build his foundation properly. The Technique was quite simple. It used the stored Aether in his body to pressure his muscles, bones, organs, and energy pathways, forcing them to grow and adapt.

The Technique was used by most, and it proved effective over multiple generations.

The Technique not only made Mages physically stronger than they were meant to, it also made Warriors more adept at controlling their Aether for circulation and using Techniques.

Aethan's mind sunk into his body, and he began pooling all the Aether stored within his body towards a region in his lower torso.

The effects on the surroundings were miniscule at first as he performed his task diligently, but a tornado of energy soon began to rush around him, whipping the air and raising dust.

Martha peeked through the window to see what was causing the surge of Aether, only for her to see a black matter oozing out of Aethan as he sat on the ground, his brows furrowed in concentration, and his body quivering in fatigue.

  • Storm's Descent

“This just proves my thoughts,” Aethan mumbled after crossing a few meters, his feet tapping against the obsidian floor with astonishing speed. As he got closer to the throne, the oppressive feeling coming from the charred figure on it increased, and the frequency of the Thunderbolts multiplied, their deadliness becoming more apparent. Aethan was then forced to slow down and calculate his steps more often. He was still moving quickly though, and at that rate, he would reach his target shortly. Yet, that didn't prevent him from sustaining his first injury in this stage of the Dungeon. A particularly large thunderbolt struck the floor with dire force after Aethan weaved out of its way, albeit the branching arcs of electricity caught his ankle, sending a jolt through his body.Aethan spasmed. The paralyzing effect of the thunderbolt affected his next moves, and a second thunderbolt struck true, charring his flesh. Lichtenberg figures appeared on his skin immediately. Simultaneously,

  • Echoes of a Fallen God

Aethan got tunnel vision and a splitting headache as soon as the part of the Magic Circle responsible for teleportation activated. The headache stemmed not just from the movement through space, but also due to his mind still reeling from the sudden flood of information. His mind spun, and he almost emptied the contents of his stomach. But his body, pulsating with vitality, stopped him from doing just that. The teleportation didn't take long and ended just seconds later, with Aethan finding himself in a large hall. However, he barely had time to study the hall properly before his senses blared warning alarms in his head, and he rolled to the side, springing up to his feet in one fluid motion, his Aether surging violently.BOOM!Aethan's ears rang as a thick bolt of Lightning struck the spot he had been lying moments ago. The Lightning cracked the obsidian tiles easily, sending jagged fractures racing across it. It spread out like a net, striking anything and everything close enough

  • Inheritance of the Stormcallers

Aethan realised that he was wrong to call that affinity Wind. The real term was Gale, an affinity tied to an extinct race of Humanoid beings known as the Stormcallers. They once occupied this Realm’s Dungeon—living there, to be precise—before they were forced to leave after being attacked by an enemy race. “How do I know all this?" Aethan suddenly mumbled, feeling like the new knowledge he gained wasn't normal. Yes, he had received the memories of the Wraiths after absorbing their Essence, but they had just been born, and the only memories they possessed were of using Gale effectively in combat. The memories he had received from the two Wraiths contained what he was thinking of at the moment, but not enough to give him such an in-depth understanding of the Stormcallers. “So where did it come from?" Aethan mumbled. He studied his surroundings, searching for something—anything—that could help him solve the dilemma. He raised a brow when he caught sight of glowing spots on the groun

  • Gale

Aethan dealt with three Wraiths swiftly, but let the last two continue to attack him. He allowed them to adapt, giving them the chance to pose a challenge to him. His goal was quite simple; allow them to get strong enough, then use Blood Essence Extraction to extract the Essence within the glass-like pebble acting as their Cores. Aethan wasn't so sure it was going to work. Blood Essence Extraction was called that because it worked on beings with blood—at least that's what his father had said. But as the inheritor of the bloodline, he understood its intricacies better and more intricately than anyone else did. Blood Essence Extraction didn't only work on blood. It worked on anything having Aether and Life Force. That wasn't to say that he could extract Aether from anything using Blood Essence Extraction though.Instead, what it implied was that he could sense the Essence of a being rooted deeply within them and pull at it, th

  • Wind Wraiths

Aethan's gaze sharpened, his Aether churning vigorously. He retreated calmly, watching as wind began to rush out from the three holes and accumulate before him. In no time flat, three faceless, humanoid creatures formed and began attacking him. Aethan moved immediately, dodging awkward blows coming from the flying creatures. They lacked finesse and cooperation, attacking at every opportunity. Their movements were like that of newborns; decisive, yet stupid—most of the time. They didn't think twice before committing to an attack, not caring if it hindered them in the process. ‘Wraiths,’ Aethan thought, trying to grasp the intricacies of the creatures moving about. They were formed from the holes in the walls… or more likely, from something within the walls. The wind didn't come from within the wall, but had gathered when the wall opened up, affirming his thoughts of it being the work of an object. The object—whatever it was—was, perhaps, what had created the Wraiths and imbued

  • Dungeon

The wind howled furiously in Aethan's ears as Ignaroth covered large distances with little effort. The light tap of his feets against the ground—despite his large size—was drowned out by the beating of his heart, and harsh winds. Regardless, Aethan's grip on Merek didn't loosen one bit, and the soothing circulation of his Aether around his body calmed his nerves. Aethan's shock only grew when they came to a stop, and Merek claimed that the Infernal Lycan-wannabe wasn't even using a tenth of its speed. Aethan tried to imagine just how fast it was, then, at its top speed, but his mind failed to picture such a thing properly, and it just made him want to get a Totembeast all the more. “The Dungeon is just ahead. I'm sure you can sense it,” Merek claimed, pointing a finger at a warp in reality ahead of them. Aethan's gaze sharpened as his eyes landed on the distorted space in the distance. The feeling he got from the Dungeon gate reminded him of what it felt like to be in the presenc
