I sit alone in the cafeteria, the spoon in my hand halfway to my mouth, my food cold and untouched. My eyes stare blankly ahead, seeing everything and nothing at once. The usual chaos of lunchtime laughter, footsteps, and clanging trays blurs into meaningless noise. I’m not here, not really. My mind is stuck in a loop, replaying that argument with Guy, over and over again like a broken record.

Leaving Guy after that discussion was probably the best decision I ever made.

I don’t hate Guy. I just don’t want to hear another word about “that” party. Not from Guy. Not from anyone. The very idea of attending makes my stomach twist. It isn’t fear; it’s memory. The kind that clings to my skin like smoke and makes my chest feel too tight. I haven’t forgotten what Danny did to me last time. Not for a second.

A voice slices through my thoughts.

“Hey, honey!”

That voice. Sugar-sweet and sharp-edged. I flinch inwardly as a familiar chill snakes down my spine.

“Don’t tell me this is Guy’s big plan,” I think, dread pooling in my stomach.

I can’t look up. I don’t *want* to look up. That voice belongs to Piper John, a girl as persistent as she is terrifying. Arguing with her is like wrestling with a storm. Useless. Dangerous.

Piper drops into the seat across from me with the grace of someone who knows she owns every room she enters. Her sleek hair falls over one shoulder as she leans forward, one manicured finger snapping in front of my vacant eyes.

“Earth to Alan,” she says, her tone impatient. “Are you going to stare at your mashed potatoes all day or acknowledge my existence?”

I blink rapidly, dragged back to the present. “Huh? What is it?”

Piper sighs, dramatically. “Seriously. Sometimes I think you’re part alien. Whatever’s going on in that mysterious head of yours, keep it on pause. I came for something important.”

Her red lips curl into a smug smile as she pulls a glossy, silver invitation from her bag and slides it onto my tray like a poker card in a high-stakes game.

I barely glance at it before nudging it back. “I’m not going.”

“I didn’t ask if you were going,” Piper says, crossing her legs and tilting her head with mock sweetness. “Because I already know you’re not fun. Let’s be honest.”

Her words hit like a slap disguised as a compliment. I stiffen. “Not fun?”The most popular girls in school practically fight for my attention, and she is calling me “boring”?

But Piper isn’t done.

“I’m here to ask you out. A ‘date,’ Alan.”

I choke on air. “What?”

“You heard me,” she says, flashing me a wicked grin. “Pick me up at 7 p.m. sharp. Wear that blue tuxedo I like. And don’t be late.”

She stands and leans in, brushing a light kiss on my cheek that somehow feels more like a warning than affection. I sit frozen, my heart thumping in confusion and low-grade panic.

*What just happened?* I think, watching her strut away, heels clicking like war drums.

I gulp.

Piper doesn’t accept “no” for an answer, and if I don’t show up, I know she’ll make my life a living hell. I blink, my eyes slowly drifting back down to my untouched tray.

A heavy sigh escapes my lips. “Why me?” I mutter.

I ruffle my hair with both hands, groaning into my palms. It isn’t fair. Why does it feel like the world has chosen me as the punchline to some twisted joke?

My mind wanders to the only solution I can think of.

“Maybe I should just run away… Maybe that’s the only way to avoid this.“

I’m not even sure if I’m joking anymore. Running away suddenly sounds like a very real, very tempting escape from Piper’s clutches.

But the more I think about it, the more I know if I can’t escape her… if she finds a way to rope me in like she always does… then I’d better brace myself. Because the party isn’t just coming. It is coming for me.

And I have a very bad feeling about what is waiting on the other side.

I stand up, lifting my tray of food with slow, mechanical movements. The rice on the plate is barely touched, a few fork marks scattered across it like abandoned thoughts. My appetite has vanished, killed off by a mix of dread, confusion, and Piper’s overwhelming presence.

My stomach growls in protest, but even it seems to know it is pointless. No matter how hungry I am, my body can’t stomach another bite. Not after that.

“Forget it,” I mutter under my breath.

I carry the tray toward the bin, each step heavy, the food now just an inconvenient reminder of how normal my day should have been. And yet, nothing about this day is normal anymore. I dump it, the clatter of the tray louder than expected, earning a few curious glances, but I don’t care.

My mind is already spiraling again. “What if she really makes me go? What if I say no?“

But deep down into my mind I knew that I will somehow end up at the party even if am not willing to go but knowing that something was somehow tugging at my heart and asking me to go to that party . I had that feeling that something huge would happen tomorrow.

Waking up to a bright ceiling and an IV drip in my hands wasn’t what I planned when I challenged Eden on that dual “Ouch ! He mumbled word

I knew the fun had just started; I didn't need someone to sing it to me.He flipped me over, my back slamming into his elbow. I heard a sickening “crack” from the impact before I was flung away like I was worth nothing. Max ran toward me, his face a mask of anxiety and worry.“Alan! Are you okay?” He began to pull me into a sitting position. “Come on, I’ll take you to a healer.”I pushed him away. Blood trickled down into my eyes, blurring my vision as I looked toward Eden who was backing me and smiling to the onlookers we hard. He had become visible again and was already heading back to his yoga mat as if the fight were over.“I don’t need a healer,” I spat, pushing myself up with trembling arms. “I don’t fucking need anybody!”I shouted the words, and Max stared at me in disbelief. “I’m going to win this duel, even if I die doing it.” The crazy look Max gave me didn’t move me a bit. That’s when it began. The air around me started to shift; something dark was flickering within my sha

“Are you out of your mind or something?”Max growled at me, his eyes wide and wild as if he were about to go crazy.“I’m going to challenge him.”“You are going to challenge Eden Bricks?” Max couldn’t believe the words rushing out of my mouth. “Was that the reason you asked me to show you the practice room?”I knew it sounded crazy. Earlier today, I had practically dragged Max out of his class just so he could show me where the students gathered, and he had led me here the practice room. When I told him why I actually needed it, he flared up like a frantic hen.“Eden Bricks isn’t weak, Alan!”“I wasn’t looking for someone weak, Max.” I turned to stare at a huge guy with bulging muscles. He was doing a strange, dancing yoga which seemed odd for someone standing at 5’10”. I glanced back at Max, who threw his hands up in a dramatic gesture of defeat.“Okay! Fine!” He began to glance everywhere but at me. “Do what you want to do; I’m not stopping you.” He folded his arms tightly across his

Getting up today wasn’t an issue for me; I was able to get up as fast as I could. My body is probably adapting to the change of environment and mutants high way of doing things , but I guess I still couldn’t beat Aeron’s record of being the first to get up in this room. Sometimes, I can’t help but wonder if he even sleeps. The fact , that he gets back late and still manages to get up early still leaves me in shock.“Hey,” I greeted him, my voice thick with sleep as I tried to rub the heaviness from my face.“Mmmmm,” was the only reply he gave me. I watched, fascinated and annoyed, as he tied his boot laces in a rush. He put his leg down and immediately cast a glance my way—and that’s when I saw it.“His badge”. He wasn’t wearing white badge like me anymore, it was now yellow. Seeing how my eyes were stuck on his body, he followed my gaze until it landed on the new badge. An annoying, triumphant smirk made its way to his face.“How did you do it?” I asked, my voice tight. That smirk wa

I barely remembered leaving Ability Proficiency Class. The hallway blurred as I walked. My legs moved, but my mind stayed stuck back in that room with the scorched floor tiles, the scent of ozone and something else… something buried inside me that had almost broken free.I didn’t understand what had happened. One second I was about to get fried, the next everything stopped. And for a terrifying moment, I felt… limitless. It was gone now, whatever it was. Shut down like a flicked switch. It was Probably the collar.I clenched my fists, jaw tight. Damn thing was suffocating, I can’t just help it .But I didn’t have time to figure it out. Not here. Not yet.I turned a hallway and ran into a crowd gathered near the infirmary. Most were whispering, peeking through the glass window. I caught one phrase over and over again:“She’s awake.”“Cherry is awake “.“ was she sick before”“ I heard she saw some visions or some kind of shit” That last voice was a little bit aggressive I edged clos

The metal doors loomed ahead, the letters "APC" etched boldly like a warning sign rather than a class title. I took a breath well, more like I sucked air into my lungs and pretended it calmed me. It didn’t. My hand hesitated on the cold handle before pushing the door open.Inside, the classroom felt nothing like the combat class I had just survived. There were no sparring rings, no weapons racked on the wall. Instead, it looked like a mix between a high-tech lab and an underground bunker. The walls were a deep matte gray, lined with reinforced panels. A faint hum buzzed from hidden machinery beneath the floor. Max’s last words still echoed in my head “Professor Kael isn’t like Sir Jude. He wouldn’t care if you actually died in his class.”It save to say that does words weren’t in any way encouraging but instead it made me more scared of stepping foot into that class. As I walked into the room I saw students were scattered around in small groups. Some were levitating objects with shee
