Liam pushed open the heavy glass doors of the bar from the night before and walked straight toward the wooden counter. The female bar owner looked up from cleaning a glass and raised her eyebrows.
"I need to know what happened here last night. Who took me out of this bar?" Liam asked. His voice tone was demanding and serious as he leaned his hands on the sticky counter.
"You took out your mobile phone and called someone to pick you up, honey. A few minutes later, a beautiful woman came inside and took you away by your arm, but I have no idea who she was," the bar owner replied. Her facial expression was calm and indifferent as she continued wiping the dirty glass.
"Did she say anything to you? Did you notice the color of her hair or what she was wearing when she walked out with me?" Liam asked. His facial expression was tense with desperate curiosity.
"She did not say a single word to me, honey. She just put your arm over her shoulder and walked out the door. She moved fast, so you need to stop asking questions and go home," the bar owner advised. Her voice tone was bored and slightly impatient as she walked to the other end of the counter.
"Show me your surveillance footage right now so I can see her face and identify her," Liam demanded. His jaw was clenched tight with intense frustration and anxiety.
"I cannot let you look at my security cameras because that violates strict customer privacy rules. You need to leave it alone," the bar owner said. Her tone was absolute and firm, leaving zero room for argument.
Liam walked out of the bar onto the loud street. A wave of confusion hit his brain. He wondered if his drunken self really had called his wife, Chloe, to pick him up after all.
Why would he call the woman who ruined his life? The thought made his stomach twist in physical discomfort.
He returned to the luxury hotel and booked a brand new room on the eighth floor. He wanted to be far away from his old life.
He was completely serious about getting a divorce. He could not accept that the woman he had shared a bed with for nearly a decade had let another man father one of their daughters.
He pulled out his mobile phone and sent a long text message to the hospital director, asking for a few days off from his medical duties. His mind was far too tangled with anger and betrayal to focus on treating sick patients.
Sitting alone on the edge of the hotel bed, bitter memories flooded his mind. He thought back to his graduation from the most prestigious medical university in the country. He had been the absolute star graduate of his entire department, admired by all his professors.
Even the legendary Medical Sage had personally offered to take him to the capital city as his exclusive student. That opportunity would have made Liam a world famous physician with unlimited success.
But at that time, Chloe was busy building her corporate empire, and he deeply feared that living in different cities would destroy their young marriage. He turned down the once in a lifetime offer without hesitation just to stay by her side.
He willingly shifted his career from a core surgical role in the fast paced emergency department to a boring, marginal clinic desk job.
He did it solely so he could get off work on time every single afternoon and have fresh, warm meals ready on the dining table when Chloe came home from her office.
Whenever her high stress business routine gave her severe stomach pains, he would spend hours in the kitchen cooking therapeutic herbal soups to heal her body.
Yet after a decade of absolute devotion and blind love, his only reward was a biological test proving one of his beloved twin daughters was not his child. His heart shattered into tiny pieces inside his chest. All those endless years of love, loyalty, and personal sacrifice had been repaid with the ultimate betrayal.
Liam locked himself inside the quiet hotel room for two entire days, refusing to step outside or answer his phone. On the night of the second day, the heavy wooden door suddenly swung open. Chloe barged into the room using a duplicate key card she got from the hotel manager.
She looked at the room—takeout containers on the table, wrinkled sheets, curtains still drawn. Then she looked at him. Unshaven. Hollow-eyed. Still in yesterday's clothes. Her expression tightened slightly, but she held her tongue.
"Why have you not come home for two days? You are not going to work either," Chloe asked softly, a hint of unease in her voice. "The girls have been asking about you. I have been making excuses, but I am running out of them."
Liam sat on the bed, not looking at her. "I am not going back to that house. I told you that clearly last time."
Chloe steadied herself and forced a smile. "I explained it to you last time. I have never cheated on you. Absolutely never."
Liam's anger flared. "I went to multiple labs. They all came back with the same conclusion. Chloe, have you really been treating me like a fool all this time?"
"The DNA report must be wrong," Chloe said, her voice rising slightly. "I do not know how those results came back the way they did. But I know what I did and did not do. I have been faithful to you, Liam. From the day we met."
Liam gave up on arguing. He got up from the bed, walked to his bag, and pulled out a thick stack of papers. He threw them at her feet.
"Then pick those up and sign them. We are going to the courthouse tomorrow morning."
Chloe stared at the papers on the floor, then back at him. She had not expected this. She had come to take him home, and he was handing her divorce papers.
"You actually had divorce papers drawn up?" Chloe asked, her voice unsteady. "You are serious about this?"
"I already showed you the DNA results," Liam said, his voice cold. "Hannah is not my daughter. She is yours—yours and some other man's. You cheated. You betrayed me. This marriage is over. Read the terms and sign."
Chloe's face hardened. "Hannah is your daughter. I have never cheated on you. I have never betrayed you. Liam, there are some things you just do not say. You are crossing a line."
"I will say it all I want!" Liam's voice rose. "You cheated on me, Chloe! Hannah is the child of you and some other man! I will take full responsibility for every word I say. Do you have the guts to admit what you did?"
Chloe's brow furrowed. "Admit what? I did not cheat. I did not betray you. What exactly do you want me to admit?"
"There is no point in talking anymore," Liam said. "Read the papers. If you have no objections, sign them."
Chloe bent down and snatched the papers off the carpet. She flipped through the pages with aggressive, jerky movements, her irritation growing with every turn. She did not want to look at the fine print. But then her eyes caught a number near the bottom of the page, and she stopped. She stared at it for a long moment, then looked up at him.
"You are demanding a settlement of one billion dollars from me?" Chloe asked, her voice incredulous. "What kind of ridiculous extortion is this?"

Chapter 10: The Final Argument
Liam had barely closed the door of his hotel room when he heard footsteps rushing down the hallway behind him. He turned just as Chloe's face appeared around the corner, her heels clicking frantically against the marble floor."Liam, wait!" She called out, slightly out of breath. "Can we talk about this like adults? Please!”"There is nothing left to talk about." Liam said, not bothering to hide the exhaustion in his voice. He pushed the door open and stepped inside, but she followed him in anyway, refusing to be shut out.“I know you are upset, and I see why. We both said some things we shouldn't have, and I'm sorry for accusing you like that. But you should also know that asking for a divorce right there, in front of everyone… it shocked them. I mean, it shocked me too! You shouldn't have spoken to dad in that way, it was so rude. He has always treated you well, and you repaid him by demanding money and causing a scene in our home!”Chloe complained, hoping he would empathise with
Chapter 9: The Breaking Point
Richard immediately stepped in to defend his daughter, glaring at Liam like he was slandering his little girl on purpose.“Of course it is all false!” Richard insisted loudly. “My daughter would never do such a shameful thing, this man is making up lies to destroy our family name! There is no way any of this is true!”Everyone in the room turned their eyes toward Liam. Accusations poured out from all sides.“See! Even my parents know I can't ever cheat on you, how the hell can't you see the truth, despite being married to me? Or it is because you forged those documents yourself, is that why you are insisting on it?”Chloe shouted. “Tell me the truth, Liam?”Richard agreed, “Exactly! He must have paid someone to fake the results in order to extort money from our family! How hard is that these days?”Even Grace looked at him with suspicion now.“Did you really forge the papers, Liam?” She asked in a disappointed tone, only for Richard to scoff loudly. “Do you even need to ask him? Chapter 8: Ungrateful!
Richard shouted, his hand still raised, shaking with fury. "We took you in, treated you like family! And this whole time you were just waiting for the right moment to bleed us dry?"Liam's cheek was stinging with pain, and a red mark quickly appeared on his skin. He tasted a little blood in his mouth, but didn't say a single word in his defense. He straightened without a word, locking his jaw tightly. “Got nothing to say, you damn bastard?!” Richard cursed him loudly. “How dare you come into my house and demand money from my wife and daughter? You are nothing but a low-class cattle we brought in by mistake!”He was raging like a storm, and Chloe rushed forward, panicked at his condition.“Liam, apologize to my father right now!” She spoke sharply, feeling overwhelmed at her father's outburst. He was panting and red in the face with anger, and the sight worried Chloe tremendously. “You know he's a heart patient, still you're provoking him? If something happens to my dad, who will b
Chapter 7: Money-trap!
“Grace, please try to understand. I'm not against Chloe, in fact, I'm also doing this for her own good.” Liam spoke, his voice rising with frustration. “I just can't understand, why can't she just come clean? If she really loves another man, she can just admit it and be with the person she really wants. Why do you want her to keep lying, and forcing me to raise a child that is not mine? What's the point of continuing this fake marriage?”Grace’s eyes flickered with a brief moment of doubt. She looked away for a second before answering.“I don't know what you are talking about. I truly don't know about any of this.”Then, deciding something, she picked up her phone from the table. “Chloe, come home right now,” Grace said into the phone, keeping her voice firm and urgent. “Your husband is here, and we need to talk about something important.”After ending the call, Grace dialed another number. This time, it was for her husband.“Come back to the house immediately. Something serious has
Chapter 6: Cracks in the Foundation
Grace looked down at the papers he had put on the table, and glanced at Liam with a worried expression.“What is this? And why do you look so troubled, dear?” Liam had always known Grace as a reasonable woman, who treated him with real kindness over the years. He believed she would listen carefully and help him mediate the divorce. And so, with a heavy heart, he prepared to speak the painful truth. “Grace… one of the twins is not biologically mine. You know that I have raised both girls with all my heart. But the DNA test shows that only one is biologically related to me, while the other—”“How can you say such a terrible thing!?”Grace’s face was twisted with anger as she cut him off, looking at him with disbelief. “How dare you say that about my daughter? Chloe loves you, and everyone in the family knows how devoted she is to you and the children. She even went against the family elders to marry you! Liam, you must be out of your mind to accuse her of cheating like this!”Liam fe
Chapter 5: A Speck of Dust
"I never hesitated once before devoting all my time towards our family, taking care of them from dawn till dusk. And yet, you're fighting me so hard just for a billion dollars?" Liam's tone was quiet, but the bitterness bled through every word.Chloe let out a short breath, almost a laugh, but not quite. "You think those chores are worth a billion dollars? Liam, I loved you. I still love you. But this—this is not love. This is something else. You are asking for money. You are saying I owe you for everything you did around the house. That is not how a marriage works.""I turned down the exclusive offer to become the Medical Sage's personal disciple so I could stay home and cook your meals every single night," Liam said, his voice low and steady. "Do you know where his actual disciple is today? That man is a celebrity physician who only treats billionaires. He charges a million dollars for a single consultation. If I had not sacrificed my career to be your husband, I could have earned t
