Chapter Sixteen

It was around 5 pm when cases involving former inspector Ondula and his colleague were brought before the court. The cases were delivered by concerned citizens of the country who were seeking justice for the innocent people who had lost their lives due to the alleged actions of the two men. The judges present in the courtroom at the time decided to postpone the case for a week, giving the government time to gather tangible evidence in order to prosecute the accused. This decision did not sit well with the citizens, who were eager to see the two men punished for their alleged crimes.

Interestingly, Ondula was also being tried for another offense: allowing two prisoners to escape from an international prison, an unprecedented event in the country's history. The gravity of the situation was not lost on the citizens, who were demanding swift and decisive action from the court.

As the trial was postponed, tension hung in the air, as the citizens' desire for justice was palpable. The high stakes of the case were evident, and everyone present in the courtroom knew that justice needed to be served. The outcome of the trial would have far-reaching consequences, and the fate of the accused rested in the hands of the government and the evidence they could present in court.

As the court adjourned for the day, the citizens left the courtroom, their minds buzzing with questions and emotions. The future of the accused hung in the balance, and the citizens were left to contemplate what the next week would bring. Would justice be served, or would the two men escape punishment once again? Only time would tell.

Ondula and his counterpart were escorted back to prison with tight security, to prevent the citizens from carrying out their desire for vigilante justice. During the one week of waiting for the next court hearing, the two men found no peace in their prison cells. Other inmates would defile their living space with urine and feces, making their already difficult situation even more unbearable. The same treatment was also being inflicted upon Odhimbe, Ondula's colleague.

Mealtimes were especially difficult for Ondula, as other inmates would grab his food from his hands, leaving him with nothing to eat. The remaining prisoners would then laugh, making it clear that they had no sympathy for his plight. Ondula was also expected to do the work of ten people during work hours, further adding to his suffering.

The situation was dire, and it seemed like no one was willing to help Ondula or his counterpart. The physical and emotional toll of their situation was becoming too much to bear, and there seemed to be no end in sight. They were trapped in a cycle of abuse and degradation, with no way out.

As the days passed, Ondula and his colleague tried to maintain their sanity, but it was becoming increasingly difficult. The fear of what lay ahead in the court was also looming, and the possibility of being found guilty and punished for their crimes was a heavy weight on their shoulders. They were stuck in a never-ending nightmare, with no light at the end of the tunnel.

At 9 pm, Spider stumbled out of Arom bar, having imbibed too much alcohol. As he walked along the highway, he ran into Luke, who was also drunk, but not as much as Spider. Luke was surprised to see Spider in such a state and asked him where he was from.

Spider, feeling defensive, snapped back at Luke, asking him why he needed to know. Luke tried to explain that he was simply curious, but Spider was in no mood to chat. Eventually, he relented and told Luke that he had been gambling at Arom bar and had won a drink, which he had consumed in its entirety, leading to his current state.

Luke then asked about Helena, Spider's love interest. Spider's demeanor changed, and he spoke with a sad voice, telling Luke that Helena was now in love with Jack and meant nothing to him. Luke, being a good friend, tried to encourage Spider to fight for Helena's affections, as he could see that Spider had lost hope.

Spider agreed to try and win Helena back the next day, as he could see that Luke was genuinely trying to help him. They walked together, with Luke holding Spider's hand to prevent him from falling over. The conversation seemed to have lifted Spider's spirits, and he was able to walk with more confidence as they continued on their way.

The two men made their way up to their rooms, discussing Jack and Helena. The next morning, everyone had settled into the planning room, but Chaly couldn't start the plans without Jack's arrival. As they waited, Spider went and sat next to Helena.

"Hey, I feel like I mean nothing to you nowadays," Spider said, looking directly into Helena's eyes.

"Why do you say that?" Helena asked, confused.

But before Spider could respond, Jack arrived and went straight to Helena, grabbing her hand and leading her to sit behind him. Spider said nothing, but he felt a deep sadness.

"Good morning, guys. I was committed somewhere, that's why I'm late. Please accept my apologies," Jack said suddenly. The room fell silent, but Chaly picked up the conversation, and they began planning the heist.

As they discussed the details, Spider couldn't help but feel envious of Jack and his relationship with Helena. He knew he needed to do something to win her back, but he didn't know where to start.

After the meeting, Spider approached Jack and Helena. "Hey, can we talk for a minute?" he asked.

"Sure, what's up?" Jack said, looking at him with concern.

"I just wanted to say sorry for being distant lately. I've been going through a tough time, but that's no excuse. I want you both to know that I value our friendship, and I'm committed to being a better friend to you both."

Helena smiled at him, and Jack put his hand on Spider's shoulder. "We're here for you, man. You don't have to go through this alone," Jack said.

Spider felt a sense of relief and gratitude wash over him. He knew that he still had a long way to go to win back Helena's heart, but he was grateful to have true friends who cared about him.
