Richard stared at Maverick for several seconds as those simple words settled over him.

“I know more than you think.” Those words were simple, yet something about Maverick’s expression made Richard uneasy because he had no idea who this young man was, but the confidence in his voice was not something that could be easily ignored.

Richard’s eyes narrowed as he asked coldly,

“How do you know about my personal affairs? And who exactly are you?” Maverick didn’t answer immediately and instead glanced toward the elevator before lowering his voice.

“You don’t need to know who I am yet. Just listen to a story.”

Richard frowned but said nothing as Maverick began.

“There was once a wealthy man who couldn’t have children. He had already gone through countless medical examinations and treatments, but nothing worked.” Richard’s expression changed slightly while Maverick continued.

“Now, that wealthy man had a driver. The driver was young, careless, and had a habit of fooling around with women.”

“One day, the driver slept with a woman who worked in a nightclub. Not long afterward, that woman discovered she was pregnant.” Richard’s breathing became slightly heavier as Maverick went on.

“The woman kept pestering the driver, demanding that he take responsibility. The driver didn’t want anything to do with her.”

Maverick paused before adding, “But then he remembered something. He knew his employer couldn’t have children.” Richard’s pupils contracted while Maverick continued in an almost casual tone.

“So instead of getting rid of the problem, the driver came up with a better idea. He convinced the pregnant woman to approach his wealthy employer.”

“He arranged for the two of them to get together and made the wealthy man believe that the pregnancy was his.” Richard’s face became increasingly angry as his hands slowly tightened as Maverick said,

“The wealthy man was desperate for a child. When the woman eventually gave birth, he naturally believed the children were his.”

Maverick looked directly into Richard’s eyes. “But there was one problem.”

“The driver’s children were never the wealthy man’s children.” Maverick continued.

“The driver and the woman had deceived him from the beginning. Even the paternity test was manipulated.”

Richard’s face had already lost some of its color, but Maverick wasn’t finished.

“And once the two of them realized that the wealthy man completely trusted them, another thought eventually entered their minds.” Richard’s heart sank as he asked, “What thought?” Maverick leaned slightly closer. “What if the wealthy man died in an accident?”

Richard froze while Maverick continued quietly,

“If that happened, the woman and the driver could inherit everything through the children.” A cold sweat appeared on Richard’s forehead because he didn’t know how this stranger knew any of this, but every detail struck far too close to home.

His infertility, his driver’s strange closeness with his wife, the twins, even the paternity test.

There had been moments when Richard had wondered why the children sometimes resembled his driver, yet he had dismissed it as coincidence.

Now those memories suddenly felt completely different. Richard stared at Maverick and asked, “How do you know this?”

Maverick shrugged. “Whether you believe me or not is up to you.” He stepped back. “I’m not asking you to accuse anyone. Just investigate quietly. Get another paternity test from a place neither of them can influence.”

Richard remained silent as Maverick added, “If I’m wrong, you lose nothing. But if I’m right…” He didn’t finish because he didn’t need to.

Richard understood perfectly. After several seconds, Richard finally nodded. “I’ll investigate.”

His attitude had completely changed. The hostility from earlier was gone, replaced by caution and respect.

He reached into his suit and pulled out a business card. “Take this.” Maverick accepted it. “My personal number,” Richard said. “If what you told me is true, I’ll owe you.”

From several meters away, Mrs. Collins watched the two men in confusion. She couldn’t understand what had happened. Richard had just ordered security to restrain Maverick.

Now he was standing privately with him and even handing him his personal business card.

“Richard!” Her voice finally broke the silence. “What exactly are you doing?” Richard turned toward her. His expression was cold.

“Enough.” She stared at him in disbelief. “Enough? That man just humiliated me in front of everyone!”

“I said enough.” His voice carried such authority that she instinctively fell silent.

Richard walked toward her. “We’re going home.” Her eyes widened. “Going home? Why?”

“We have something important to deal with.”

“What could possibly be more important than this?” she demanded, pointing angrily toward Maverick. Richard’s expression darkened.

“Don’t make a scene here.”

“But you’re just going to let him—”

PAHHH! The slap echoed through the lobby. Everyone froze.

Mrs. Collins stood completely stunned, one hand covering her cheek. Even the security guards looked shocked. Richard had always been known for spoiling his wife.

Yet after speaking privately with Maverick, he had suddenly slapped her in public.

“What…?” Mrs. Collins stared at her husband in disbelief. Richard’s face remained expressionless.

“Go home.” She opened her mouth to argue, but one look at his face made her stop. For the first time, she realized that something had changed.

Richard grabbed her arm and began pulling her toward the elevator. The crowd watched them disappear, their minds filled with questions.

Who exactly was that young man? What had he whispered to Richard? And why had Richard’s entire attitude changed afterward?

Maverick didn’t concern himself with their confusion. He turned toward Claire. She was still standing nearby, visibly shaken by everything that had happened. For a moment, she simply looked at him. Then she bowed slightly. “Thank you.”

Maverick smiled. “You don’t have to thank me.”

“If you hadn’t stepped in, I don’t know what would have happened.” Claire gave him a sincere smile.

“You’re probably the kindest person I’ve met recently.”

Maverick almost laughed. Kind? If she knew how many things 7he remembered about the future, she probably wouldn’t describe him that way.

“I really owe you one,” Claire continued. “If there’s anything I can do to repay you—”

“There isn’t.” Maverick shook his head. “You don’t owe me anything.” Claire hesitated.

“Still… I would feel uncomfortable accepting your help for nothing.” Maverick looked at her carefully. “You really don’t recognize me?”

Claire blinked. “Recognize you?”

“Yes.” She studied his face. At first, there was only confusion. Then her eyes slowly widened. Her lips parted. That familiar face.

The person she had once known from high school. The boy who had always stayed quiet around the wealthy students. The boy she had helped whenever the others bullied him.

She stared at him in disbelief. “Maverick?” A faint smile appeared on his face.

“It’s been a long time, Claire.”
