What do you do for a living?

Chapter 2

Nathan stopped at the roadside, closing his eyes, reminiscing on the previous scenario when the sudden notification on his phone disturbed him greatly.

He diverted his attention to his phone, and his eyes widened.

“Dare you to click if you're man enough!" The message was written in red ink, with a skull as an emoji.

Nathan scoffed and had his face squeezed. “So I've become so miserable that even the virus from my phone doubts my capability as a man.“ Nathan cursed busting into a wry smile.

He will just ignore and act as if he wasn't a man enough. What's the point of proving that to a mere virus bot?

He hissed.

“You have just 1 minute or else you'll regret it!“ Nathan received the alert, he glanced over the screen to see the message from the same service provider.

“Regret?" He morphed his face into a confused state. “What more have I got to regret?" He pondered.

“Crazy bot!“ He teased, smoothing the outer of his shirt.

“Why don't you click? You've got nothing to worry about anyway.“His instincts urged him.

Nathan froze, gaze staring into a blank space. Gaze lowered, his fingers clicked and he got the shock of his life.

“You ready for a weird adventure? Become the most wealthiest and Multitalented Master? Learn over 14 skills and become an untouchable?“ "click yes to accept, no to decline.“

Nathan opted for no because he knew those messages were from scammers, he must have been a poor man but he was educated and had been the most promising student in his class.

He clicked no, “processing answer." Nathan tried to return to his homepage but it wasn't loading, his phone was dragging. He tried to cancel the request but all his clicks were futile, he mistakenly pressed yes out of frustration and he heard it.

*Tum Tum…*

*The multitalented system has been successfully integrated into the host soul*

Nathan whirled his head around in search of the voice, awed at the beeping sound.

The noise incinerated again, this time he felt the words pouring out within him.

Multi-talented system? What are you?“Nathan demanded, with his arched eyebrow.

*I'm the multitalented system, created to provide essentials, wealth, varieties of skills, and answers to your problems on the basis you fulfill a given task. You've been chosen as one of the beneficiaries. “

Sudden wealth? Essential? Answers? Nathan cogitate on these words.

“You could make me rich? And established me as one of the most successful conglomerate owners in the whole world?“

*Yes! But you'll have to fulfill some tasks before you can gain access to those.*

“If yes, could you list those tasks?" Nathan asked in a doubtful tone.

*System installed successfully!*

* Name: Nathan Arnold*

*Age: 24*

*Experience: zero*

*Level: zero*

*Previous work: delivery man

*Number of assigned tasks: infinity*

*Number of tasks accomplished: 0/infinity*

[ Permission to display task, if yes click to accept.]

The display button for yes or no was displayed on the screen which was only visible to Nathan.

Nathan poked on the screen with the tip of his finger, accepting the invitation.

[ Task program successfully enabled.]

Nathan nodded his head excitedly.

[The first task is to spend 10 thousand dollars.]

10 thousand Dollars? Nathan raised his brow. How could he afford a sum of 10 thousand dollars, was the system playing on his intelligence?

His phone bleeped, but he ignored thinking it was the network provider's usual message. His instincts urged him to check, which he reluctantly did.

Eye widened, and his lips twitched at the notification on his phone screen.

“$10,000,” he read out the figure one after the other, almost throwing the phone away.

As exciting, and loving as this might be, his mind was filled with questions.

He inquisitively questioned,” How were you able to get my bank account number?"

[Everything about you has been linked to the system. The next task can only be displayed when the current task is achieved. ]

The system went off.

Nathan was left alone in his trance.

He pondered on what to do with the 10 thousand dollars. Just back then, he had enough of a plan if he could only access a sum of 1000 dollars, and now that he got a bigger sum of money?

He hissed as an idea crept into his head. He would find a place to lay his head for the night. Then, when the day breaks, 'thought could hatch into actions.'

He flagged down a taxi and gave the information to his destination.

The driver drove off on the silent road, and arrived at length at the country's number 1 sought-after hotel which was 'Dallas Royalty Hotel'

He stepped down of the car and paid his fare through a bank transfer.

He was so somehow disgusted at the look he was receiving from the cabman, who was staring at him as if he had grown four heads.

Somehow he was at the reception having passed through the elevator without being screened by the security man.

“Hello, I want to book a VIP suite." He said to the damsel who was dressed in a crimson suit, who had her head buried in the computer in front of her.

The lady raised her head with smiles, and with the urge of greeting him nicely but when her gaze craned Nathan's, the smiles disappeared willingly from her face.

Her eyes which were brightened with glee suddenly turned sour.

“What do you want?" She asked in a stern voice, rolling her eyes at him.

" I said I want to lodge, I need a VIP suite," Nathan repeated in a calm tone, ignoring her stares, and hatred.

“For who?" She asked, giving him a belittling look from the tip of his hair, down to his waist.

“Me," Nathan was slowly getting churn off at her questions.

“Hahaha…” she busted into an uproar of laughter.

Nathan wondered what was funny. He didn't expect her to be crackled at his words.

“You?" She pointed at him with a finger. “Whose appearance is nothing compared to an abandoned dog, I want to book a VIP suite. Sorry, you could head to the street to sleep.“

Nathan's blood boiled at the receptionist's choice of words. She doesn't even know him, to have judged him in such a manner.

“ You don't even know me, how quickly could you have decided my life in such a way?" Nathan asked, still trying to be cool.

" I don't have to know you, you're of no importance. Are you the president's son? If not, then you're unworthy of even my tiniest time.

People like you are trenches, hence supposed to be locked in your trenches so you won't affect us with your ill luck.“ The lady poured out.

" Thanks for your words though, but I have money. And I want to book the VIP suite just for a week .“

" And I said with even your money, I'm not going to accommodate a thing like you because it isn't people like you who are accommodated here, it's the top celebrity and real money controller.“

Nathan slammed his hands on the counter, glaring at her.

" What's going on here?" A feminine voice sounded right behind Nathan.

The receptionist's mood brightened, she heightened herself as she beheld the speaker.

“Ma'am, this man here has come, and said he wants to book the VIP suite for a month.“ the lady spoke with contempt in her eyes, as she pointed at Nathan as if he was an isolated leper.

The woman's face widened in awe at the mention of the VIP suite.

She turned around to take a look, and the brighter expressions on her face slightly returned to a state of frown.

The VIP suite was the most expensive lounge in a Dallas hotel which cost about seven hundred dollars for a night, only the wealthiest could afford it.

If he's going to lodge for a week, this implies that he would be paying a total sum of 4900 dollars.

Not that she was prejudiced, but judging from Nathan's outfit, he looked like a man who wouldn't even be able to afford the hotel's cheapest meal which sold at the rate of three dollars which was only for a buffet.

Even the manager couldn't afford to book the place because her salary for the year would not be up to that.

If she who was smartly dressed, and hard-working could not afford to book a room, how possible could it now be for a man like Nathan too?

She would just play along, and see to the stunt he's pulling at. If he dared to waste their time or ended up acting like he was rich, she would ensure he got locked up in a cell without bail.

“So?" The manager queried her brow.

" He…” the receptionist was interrupted by the manager.

“Have you forgotten your ethics?" The manager queried her. “Our guests are kings, and should be treated like one irrespective of who they are.“

" Good day sir, I'm Manager Sophia, you want to book the VIP suite for a week? Per night is 700, dollars, and for a week is $4900. I'll advise you to reconsider your decision to go for the lesser rooms which fall at the rate of 200 dollars.“ She announced with a smile on her face.

Nathan paused for some moments, staring into a blank space. He puffed,” I'll go for the VIP suite."

Manager Sophia was still baffled at his choice of words but decided to break through him further.

“What work do you do for a living sir?"

Nathan least expected he would be asked such a question.
