Darkness.

That was all Kael saw. It wasn’t just unconsciousness—it was a void. No light. No noise. No feeling. Just a bottomless pit of nothingness pulling at his soul like a predator that had finally found its prey.

His body ached with pain as he tried to see where he was. He tried to remember the last thing that happend and when he did. Tears tugged at the corner of his eyes.

He had thought Henry was going to be different. Fight for him but he was wrong. Even the tiniest money can make a man change his alliance.

But then Kael heard another quiet sound.

[ Ding ! ]

[SYSTEM: REBOOTING…]

A flicker of light shot across the darkness. Then another. Like stars being born in a void.

[PHYSICAL INTEGRITY: 21%…]

[CRITICAL DAMAGE DETECTED.]

[NEURAL SYNCHRONIZATION: INCOMPLETE.]

[EXECUTING EMERGENCY STABILIZATION PROTOCOL...]

Then came pain.

So much pain it ripped Kael out of the void and into his own body again, like a soul being forcefully slammed back into broken flesh.

“Ahh!” Kael gasped, choking on air and blood as he opened his eyes. His vision was blurry. Everything was spinning. The ceiling above him was familiar—chipped, damp, and covered with cobwebs.

The old boiler room.

They’d dumped him here.

Left for dead again.

Kael tried to sit up but the sharp stab of agony in his ribs made him cry out. He could feel every part of him broken.

[SYSTEM: MOBILITY RESTRICTED.]

[SUGGESTED ACTION: REMAIN STILL. Initiating passive healing boost…]

He collapsed back down, panting. The metal floor was cold beneath his bruised body.

He could still hear faint voices outside. Laughter. Someone was dragging metal tools. Probably cleaning up the factory. No one cared that a boy was dying here.

Kael’s fingers twitched. He clenched them slowly.

That punch. That one punch he had thrown at Mr. Muggles—he still felt the ting of power in it.

It hadn’t been normal.

He was sure of that.

He pulled up the faint blue screen in front of him, eyes adjusting to the text that hovered like a hologram.

[STATUS: CRITICAL]

[LEVEL: 1]

[SKILLS: PAIN TOLERANCE (L1), ENDURANCE (L1), UNCONTROLLED STRIKE (Locked)]

[AVAILABLE ENERGY: 12%]

[MISSION: Spend Seven Millionaires in Seven Days — 6 Days, 20 Hours Remaining]

Kael’s eyebrows furrowed. “Spend… Seven Millionaires?” he murmured weakly. “Is this a joke?”

He tried to look around and the thought that he had spent a day inside the boiler room made his face go pale. He looked at his clothes and he could see that they were cold and filled with blood.

His own blood.

But even as he mocked the system, a sudden ding filled his ears again.

[Daily System Bonus Activated]

[YOU HAVE BEEN CREDITED WITH: 1 MILLIONAIRE TOKEN]

[Balance: 1/7]

“What… the hell is a millionaire token?” Kael muttered, but another screen opened beneath it.

[Millionaire Token: Equivalent to 1 Million Dollars]

[Note: Must be spent to fulfill system objective. Failure to spend within the given timeframe will result in TERMINATION.]

[Suggested Use: Begin Ascendancy Path. Forge Foundation for Power, Wealth, and Influence.]

“Termination?” Kael asked aloud, suddenly fully awake despite the pain. “You mean, I die?”

[Affirmative.]

[The system only supports those who RISE. You fall again… you stay down forever.]

Kael forced himself to sit up this time, teeth gritted as fire shot up his spine. He placed his back against the rusted boiler tank and stared at his bloody fingers.

“I don’t have a choice, do I?”

[Choice is an illusion. Action is survival.]

Kael’s eyes narrowed. "Then let’s start surviving."

He stood up—barely—but he did. He grabbed a rusted pipe from the floor and used it as support. His left leg was numb, but he pushed forward, limping toward the metal door that led to the back alley.

The factory floor was still noisy. No one would notice him leaving.

He slipped out quietly into the alleyway, rain still drizzling from the sky like a mourning whisper. The world outside felt new. Dangerous. But… full of promise.

No one saw him and he didn't care about anyone. Kael was going to have his revenge but first, he needed to do what the system was asking of him.

He pulled his hoodie over his head and stepped into the street. Everything hurt—but his mind had never been clearer.

[SYSTEM: OBJECTIVE TRACKING ENABLED]

[Find a “Millionaire Channel” – Targets who possess vast financial influence. Use any means necessary to spend their wealth in your name.]

Kael didn’t even know what that meant, but something inside him stirred.

A vision flashed briefly—a penthouse… a black credit card… a man in a suit kneeling before him, trembling.

And then it disappeared.

“What the hell are you showing me?”

[A possible future. Choose your path wisely.]

Kael moved through the street slowly. His first goal was to find a place to rest—or maybe somewhere to hide. He needed answers. A plan. He couldn’t just storm into rich circles and demand money.

But then he spotted it. A glowing red sign:

"Heights Casino & Lounge"

It was one of the shadiest spots in the city. Known for laundering money and hosting underground bets that went well into the millions.

Kael paused.

Was this fate?

Or suicide?

He limped closer. The bouncer at the front—a tall man with tattoos and a scar on his jaw—looked him up and down.

“No kids,” he said.

Kael didn’t flinch. “I’m here for business.”

The bouncer snorted. “You’re bleeding. You don’t even look like you have a dollar to your name.”

Kael reached into his hoodie and pulled out the faint glow of a Millionaire Token Card, a shimmering gold rectangle that looked unreal in the rainy night.

“I’ve got a million to spend.”

The bouncer’s eyes widened.

Another voice came from the shadows. A well-dressed man in a burgundy coat and glasses stepped forward. “Let the boy in.”

Kael walked past, head held high, even as blood trickled down his cheek.

Inside, the casino glowed with sin and money. Cards shuffled, dice rolled, glasses clinked. But Kael didn’t care about gambling.

He approached a sleek, velvet-lined booth and sat across from a man with silver hair and snake eyes.

The man smiled. “You don’t belong here.”

Kael met his gaze. “Neither does my money. I’m looking to spend it. Fast.”

The man leaned forward, suddenly interested. “And what would you like in return?”

Kael thought for a moment.

Then he smiled.

“Power.”

[SYSTEM: ALIGNMENT DETECTED – FIRST SPENDING PHASE COMMENCING]

[Objective: Acquire first skill upgrade – 1,000,000 required]

Kael’s eyes glowed faintly.

The game had just begun.

Everyone turned to look at Kale. " No way. He is bluffing." " And what if he isn't? What if he is going to really do it?" " He gave him the million dollars didn't he?" Another voice said. Most of the kids began to take their words back while both the Dean and Mr Felix couldn't help but stare at Kael. " I am going to pay your three million just to manage the new factory I am just going to be buying. I need workers by the way. You can be my first employee." Kael said with a smile plastered across his face. For a brief moment, Jason was taken back. Kael could see the look in his eyes. The look of uncertainty was visible seen. " Do you honestly think you can bully your way through school? That no one is going to rise up to the challenge? FYI I am going to make you pay for everything." At that moment, Kael heard another system chime. [ Ding! ] [ System voice; Upgrading would be done in a minute. You have successfully boosted your moral. Fight off injustice and offer a

The silence was deafening. Not a single bird chirped, not a breeze moved. It was as if the entire world held its breath. Mr. Felix stood frozen in place, eyes fixed on Jason’s polished shoe being thrust arrogantly in his direction. The air around him thickened with humiliation, but not for the reason Jason thought. Mr Felix’s fingers trembled slightly, not out of fear, but from a slow-boiling anger. Jason smirked, loving the attention. “What? Cat got your tongue, old man? Maybe if you lick my shoe clean, I might even throw in a house for you and your sorry son.” Some of the students gasped while some laughed hiding behind their friends. Kael couldn’t breathe. His heart thudded violently in his chest as he looked from Jason to Felix. This couldn’t be happening. The man who had just bowed before him in gratitude, who had shown more humility than anyone in that academy ever had, was now being mocked in front of his own son—and everyone was watching like it was a damn TV show. “

The loud voice of the Dean was enough to break the little gathering apart. " What the hell is going on here?" He raised his voice looking at Kael Voss even though he was the victim and was on his knees. " Kael has gone mad with rage. He came at me!" Jonas said rushing towards the Dean to show his wounds. Kael looked around waiting for the students to support him but none of them did. Even Thomas who he had sent money to his father didn't say a word. Maybe he was scared or maybe he didn't want to suffer at the hand of Jason like he was doing now. " I didn't do it!" Kael said with anger as he clenched his fist tightly, his nails digging into his palms. Jason walked towards Dean Harper and shoved his face in his face. " He hit me right here!" " We saw him." A voice said from behind the students.Kael's face went pale when one of the students accused him wrongly again. " Kael has lost it. Probably thought everyone here is so low-life like he is." Another said. Kael was surprised

The smile on Jason's face slowly disappeared making him wonder who he really was." You know it is kind of funny how some of you think you can measure to me. I alone have the power to do that!" Jason snapped and the bickering stopped" Look at you. Dirty, poor and filthy. I expect you to grovel at my feet, Thomas. That is the only way your father can even keep his job. And what do you mean come work for me? Don't make me laugh." Jason said laughing. But instead, Kael said nothing. " Can you input your father's account number here?"Thomas walked closer to him and with a shaky hands, he pressed the digit.Everyone kept their mouth shut.Anxious to see what was going to happen next. The tension was so suffocating that even Jason and his cronies were scared. All eyes was fixed on Kael who was busy with his phone. He pressed a million dollar but instead it came out with a red alert.Kael's face went pale immediately he saw the alert. [DING!] The notification echoed through Kael's ears. It was as if the system was waiting for the right time. But was it really the right time? Kael's gave met with the noise, the laughter and of course the flashes of the camera. He wasn't sure what was going to happen next but he knew the system was coming out to favour him once more. Maybe more money or another quest. But Kael was not sure. Slowly, he stood up. Jason’s smirk dropped. “What do you think you’re doing?” Kael didn’t reply. Instead, he reached into his backpack and yanked out his phone from his back pocket. The white screen shimmered and then glitched for a second before stabilizing into something new. [SYSTEM MESSAGE: ACCOUNT BALANCE UPDATED] [CURRENT BALANCE: $1,000,000.00] Kael blinked. He blinked again. It was real. His hands trembled as he gripped the phone tighter, he still couldn't believe if he was seeing the right thing or the so called systems was playing a prank on him. He could almo

Kael could not sleep. He held his phone close to his chest like it was going to disappear and he could not stop staring. The money he was seeing was more than enough to change his life. The thought of paying his loans and bills was everything Kael could think about. He was going to quit his double shift at work and maybe even buy his boss bakery factory to make him learn a lesson never to look down on anyone. His eyes slowly shut as he fell into a long and deep sleep. ****************************************************************** [ THE NEXT DAY ] The gentle chirpy of the birds woke Kael up. His eyes fluttered open gently as the ray of the sun penetrated through his curtains. At first, Kael rolled endlessly on the make shift bed he slept on before his eyes snapped. " Oh Molly!" Kael shouted as he rushed into the bathroom to have his bath. They were just starting he mid term test today and he was a hour late. " Oh my god!" Kael said as he dashed out of the bathroom
