Nolan’s jaw tightened as he sat up straight in his chair, glaring Dan. He had stayed quiet for long enough, and now he was done pretending to be polite.

“I think you’ve said more than enough already,” Nolan said. “Why don’t you go back to your office? Or wherever it is you came from? Don’t you have something to do?”

Dan raised his eyebrows, shocked by Nolan’s words. “Whoa… what’s with the attitude now?” he asked, holding his hands in the air. “I’m just trying to help you here. You don’t like what I said, but I’m clearly doing you a favor. You should be thanking me.”

Nolan let out a soft scoff and shook his head. “A favor?” he repeated, staring right at Dan. “If I said all those things you just said to me, about your family, your job, your future, would you have liked it? Would you smile and say thank you? Would it make you feel good?”

Dan’s face changed. His smile faded and was quickly replaced with a scowl. “Wow. So that’s how it is now, huh?” he muttered, folding his arms tightly a

“How can you be so insensitive, Cole?” Gabriel said as he walked over and joined their conversation. He looked at Cole with a frown on his face.“Nolan just told you that he spent the whole night at the hospital with his uncle,” Gabriel said. “And you’re already asking him about some penthouse gossip? Come on, Cole. That’s not cool and you can do better.”Cole rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. “Why must you always attack me, Gabriel? Every single time I talk, you find a way to make me the bad guy,” he snapped back.“I already told Nolan that I’m sorry about his uncle, didn’t I?” Cole added. “His uncle is better now, and he said it himself. So what else is there to say? Can’t I talk about something else?”“This was just a normal question and a normal conversation so stop acting like I said something wrong.”Before Gabriel could reply and turn things into a big fight, Nolan quickly cut in.“Where did you hear it from?” He asked, looking directly at Cole. He didn’t want the boys to

Three hours after the surgery started, Nolan was still in the hospital hallway, looking tired and worried. His eyes kept looking at the big clock on the wall. It was already very late at night. His aunt was sitting beside him and she looked really tired too, but she didn’t want to leave. Nolan looked at her and said, “Auntie, it’s really late. You should go home and rest. You’ve been here since morning.”But she shook her head, declining immediately. “No, I want to stay. I want to see your uncle when he comes out of the surgery room and I want to be here when he wakes up.”Nolan understood how she felt, but he also knew she needed to rest. He tried again to convince her.“Auntie, I know you want to wait, but the doctor said the surgery is going to be long. There are still five more hours to go and that’s a lot of time. You need to eat, take a bath, and get some sleep. Uncle won’t be awake until morning.”His aunt didn’t agree at first and they went back and forth for some time. She ke

Nolan had found his real family, the powerful Lancaster family. Rich, popular, and known all over the country and that made her scared. She was the one who raised him and she was there when his mother died. She was there when no one else cared. She had given him food, clothes, and love. She had stayed up many nights to take care of him when he was sick. She made sure he went to school, even when things were tough. Everything Nolan was today, she believed, was because of her sacrifices. So when that old man came and said Nolan was his grandson, she felt like her heart broke. She had always known there was something different about Nolan. And even though the old man came with proof and photos, she still didn’t like it.She was scared. She was scared that if Nolan accepted that family, he would leave her and he would forget everything she did for him.He would choose a new life, full of power, money, and luxury, and leave her behind like she never mattered and she didn’t want that. So

Cynthia laughed loudly again and shook her head like she couldn’t believe what Nolan just said. She looked at him like he was a child saying something silly and stupid. “I don’t think you understand what’s really going on here,” she said, still smiling in a mocking way. “Because if you did, you wouldn’t be standing there shouting that you don’t need anyone’s help when clearly, you do. You’re just opening your mouth and talking nonsense.”Her mother nodded in agreement. She looked at Nolan, shaking her head, “Yes, Nolan, you need to calm down and think before you talk. You also need to be careful with the way you speak to the person that might help you pay for your uncle’s surgery. Don’t act like a fool.”She folded her arms and continued, “If Cynthia walks out of here without helping, your uncle might not get the surgery. Do you want that? Do you want him to die because of pride? I really don’t understand why you’re behaving like this.”Nolan scoffed loudly and looked at all of them.

Cynthia, you don’t have to say all of that,” the first aunt said, shaking her head. “Don’t you think you’re being too harsh? I think you need to calm down a little?”Cynthia turned sharply toward her and narrowed her eyes.“Too harsh?” she repeated loudly. “Did you really just say I’m being too harsh? Wow. Have you forgotten what I went through? Or weren’t you standing right there when your sister’s husband insulted me in front of everybody?”Cynthia looked around at their faces and scoffed. “So now you all want me to pretend like it didn’t happen? You think I’ll just smile, open my bank app, and give away my money like it’s nothing? Just like that?”She stepped back and placed both hands on her waist.“Do you know how hard I worked to make my money? Do you know the sleepless nights I had? The jobs I had to do? And now someone from nowhere is begging me to just give it away? For what?”She looked at Jayla on the floor and laughed dryly.“If it’s that easy to make money, then you try

Cynthia walked into the hospital slowly, looking all around with a frown on her face. She was clearly not happy to be there. Her eyes moved from one person to another in the waiting area like she was trying to avoid breathing in the same air. She looked uncomfortable, almost like she didn’t want to touch anything or even sit down. She spotted her mother standing with a group of other women, her aunties and she sighed loudly, dragging her feet as she walked toward them.“Mum,” she said in a loud, tired voice. “Why did you even call me here? I was in the middle of sleeping. Do you know how tired I am? I partied all night and my head is pounding. You could have just told me over the phone. Why drag me all the way here for this?”Her mum turned to her and gave her a warning glare. She leaned closer to her and spoke in a low voice.“Can you read the room for once? Just stop talking. Jayla’s dad is very sick. He’s in a serious condition. So if you don’t want to help, at least keep quiet a
