The atmosphere inside the conference room grew so cold that some of the board members looked as though they were struggling to breathe. Arthur remained perfectly still, his hands resting lightly on the polished glass surface of the table. He didn't need to raise his voice or slam his fists to dominate the space; his mere presence, steady and unyielding, was enough to make the air feel suffocatingly heavy.

Thaddeus Cruz wiped a layer of cold sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. His fingers were trembling so violently that he had to drop them beneath the table to hide his agitation from the rest of the board. Five years ago, he had prided himself on creating the perfect digital trap. He had felt completely untouchable when the handcuffs were slapped onto Arthur’s wrists. Now, looking into Arthur’s dark, calm eyes, Thaddeus felt like an animal caught in the crosshairs of a hunter.

"This is an outrage!" Thaddeus stammered, his voice pitching higher than usual as he tried to rally the other directors. "The internal financial records from five years ago were already thoroughly reviewed by the authorities. The case is closed. You are using your new position to launch a personal vendetta, Mr. York. The board will not support a groundless witch hunt!"

Arthur didn't blink. He slowly lifted his hands from the table and slipped them into his trouser pockets, tilting his head slightly.

"Groundless?" Arthur asked, his tone almost conversational, yet carrying a dangerous, razor-sharp edge. He turned his gaze toward Elias. "Elias, let’s help the Chief Operating Officer refresh his memory."

Elias stepped forward with absolute precision, opening the sleek leather folder he carried. He pulled out a crisp, single-sheet document and slid it directly across the glass table. It spun smoothly, stopping right in front of Thaddeus.

"Five years ago," Elias spoke up, his voice smooth and professional, "a total of eight hundred thousand dollars was routed through an offshore account registered in the Cayman Islands under a shell company named Vespera Holdings. The digital forensic team hired by Edward Enterprises at the time claimed that the encryption keys belonged exclusively to Arthur York. However, three days ago, Apex Horizon Group acquired the server logs of that exact offshore bank."

Thaddeus stared down at the paper. His chest heaved as he read the data points. It wasn't just a basic summary; it contained exact IP addresses, transfer timestamps, and a secondary verification signature that bypassed the shell company's mask.

"As it turns out," Elias continued, "the secondary authorization for every single transaction didn't come from Mr. York’s terminal. It came from a private residential network registered to a property downtown. A luxury penthouse apartment owned by you, Mr. Cruz."

A collective gasp rippled through the boardroom. The minor shareholders began to whisper furiously among themselves, their faces shifting from confusion to outright alarm. They looked at Thaddeus as if he were a walking corpse.

George Edward stared at his Chief Operating Officer, his jaw tightening. George had known that Arthur was a scapegoat... he had intentionally ignored the truth to save his company but he truly believed the embezzlement was carried out by someone else entirely, someone outside the executive circle. To discover that his right-hand man had actually stolen the money and used the family name to cover it up was a massive blow to his remaining pride.

"Thaddeus," George growled, his voice thick with a mixture of rage and betrayal. "What is the meaning of this?"

"It’s a lie! It’s a fabrication!" Thaddeus shouted, standing up so abruptly his leather chair scraped loudly against the floor. He pointed a shaking finger at Arthur. "He bought the bank! He’s using his billions to forge new evidence to ruin me! George, you can't believe this convict over me! I’ve given everything to this company!"

Arthur slowly walked down the length of the table, his steps measured and heavy. The clicking of his leather shoes seemed to count down the final seconds of Thaddeus’s career. When he reached the corner of the table, just a few feet from the panicked executive, he stopped.

"You didn't just frame me, Thaddeus," Arthur said softly, his voice dropping to a low, predatory murmur that only the immediate circle could hear. "You took a fifty percent kickback from the suppliers to inflate the shipping costs. You gambled away the company's reserve funds on offshore digital markets, and when the ledger didn't balance, you and George needed a ghost to take the fall. You thought I would rot in Blackwood Penitentiary and never see the light of day."

Arthur leaned in slightly, his eyes boring into Thaddeus’s soul. "But the problem with ghosts is that eventually, they come back to haunt the people who made them."

Seraphina watched the exchange from her seat, her face completely pale. She looked at Thaddeus, seeing the naked terror and guilt written across his features, and then she looked at Arthur. A deep, agonizing wave of regret washed over her. Arthur had been telling the truth all along. He had been completely innocent, and she had allowed her father to convince her that her husband was a thief. She had abandoned a good man to protect a nest of rats.

"Arthur..." Seraphina whispered, her voice trembling as she looked up at him. "I didn't know. I swear to you, I didn't know about the IP addresses..."

Arthur didn't even look at her. Her voice didn't register a single flicker of emotion on his face. He completely ignored her presence, keeping his focus entirely on the trembling man in front of him.

"Elias," Arthur commanded, stepping back to full height. "Call the federal commercial crimes division. Tell them the Chairman of Apex Horizon Group has personally uncovered an active money laundering operation within our new subsidiary, Edward Enterprises. Provide them with the complete server logs and the Vespera Holdings registration details."

"Right away, Chairman," Elias replied, pulling out his phone.

"No! Wait!" Thaddeus screamed, his composure completely shattering. He looked around the room wildly, looking for an exit or a friendly face, but every single board member turned their eyes away. They were business people; they could smell a sinking ship, and nobody was going to drown alongside Thaddeus Cruz. He looked at George. "George, do something! If I go down, I'm taking the 2021 financial reports with me! You know exactly what we hid!"

George's eyes widened in panic, his hand instinctively gripping the edge of his desk. Thaddeus was desperate enough to blow up the entire company to save his own skin.

Arthur watched the two men turn on each other with a look of pure, clinical satisfaction. This was exactly what he wanted. He didn't just want them broken; he wanted them to tear each other apart from the inside out.

"Security," Arthur called out toward the glass doors.

Two large, professional security guards in dark suits stepped into the boardroom immediately. They weren't the standard building staff; they wore the silver crest of Apex Horizon security on their lapels.

"Mr. Cruz is suspended effective immediately, pending a full criminal investigation," Arthur said calmly. "Escort him to his office to gather his personal belongings, and ensure he does not touch a single corporate computer terminal on his way out."

The guards walked over, firmly grabbing Thaddeus by his arms. Thaddeus didn't fight back physically; his legs seemed to have turned to water. As they dragged him toward the exit, he kept shouting, his voice echoing down the executive hallway until the heavy glass doors finally shut behind him.

The boardroom fell back into a heavy, terrified silence.

Arthur turned back toward the head of the table, where George Edward stood alone, looking older and weaker than he ever had before.

"Now that the internal trash has been cleared out," Arthur said smoothly, adjusting the cuffs of his tailored suit, "let’s talk about the remaining debt, George."

  • The Squeeze

George Edward slowly sat back down in his leather chair. The anger was completely gone from his face, replaced by a dull, hollow look. In a matter of minutes, his top executive had been dragged out in disgrace, and his board of directors sat in terrified silence.Arthur did not take a seat. He walked slowly to the huge windows overlooking the city, keeping his back to the room. The silence stretched until the tension felt like a physical weight."You always cared about how things looked, George," Arthur said, his voice quiet but perfectly clear. "You cared about the family name. You cared about the corporate logo on the front of this building. You cared so much that you were willing to lock an innocent man away just to keep your stock price steady."George cleared his throat, trying to find a fraction of his old strength. "Arthur, business requires difficult choices. The company was on the line. If the public foun
