George Edward slowly sat back down in his leather chair. The anger was completely gone from his face, replaced by a dull, hollow look. He looked at the empty space where Thaddeus had stood just moments ago. In a matter of minutes, his top executive had been dragged out in disgrace, and his board of directors sat in terrified silence.

Arthur did not take a seat. He walked slowly to the huge windows overlooking the city, keeping his back to the room. The silence stretched until the tension felt like a physical weight.

"You always cared about how things looked, George," Arthur said, his voice quiet but perfectly clear. "You cared about the family name. You cared about the corporate logo on the front of this building. You cared so much that you were willing to lock an innocent man away just to keep your stock price steady."

George cleared his throat, trying to find a fraction of his old strength. "Arthur, business requires difficult choices. The company was on the line. If the public found out about the missing funds back then, everything would have collapsed."

Arthur turned around. There was no anger in his eyes... just a cold, blank stare that made George freeze.

"And yet, it is collapsing anyway," Arthur said. He walked back to the table and picked up the financial packet Elias had distributed. "Let us look at the actual numbers. You owe eighty million dollars to various regional banks. Those banks did not think you could pay them back, so they sold that debt to my firm for pennies on the dollar."

The other board members looked down at their papers, not daring to make eye contact with Arthur.

"By law, I can demand full payment of that eighty million by the end of the business day," Arthur continued smoothly. "If you cannot produce the funds, I will seize the remaining forty-nine percent of the company shares. The Edward family will be completely removed from the building, and the brand will be dissolved."

"Arthur, please," Seraphina broke in, her voice shaking. She stood up, her hands tightly gripping the edge of the table. "You can't do this. If you destroy the company, hundreds of ordinary workers will lose their livelihoods. My father made a mistake, and I know I should have spoken up for you. I regret it every single day. But don't punish everyone else for our sins."

Arthur finally shifted his gaze to her. It was the first time he had looked directly at her since entering the room. Seraphina searched his face, desperately hoping to find a hint of the man who used to hold her when she was stressed, the man who used to smile whenever she walked into a room.

There was nothing. His eyes were like a winter sky.

"The ordinary workers will keep their jobs, Seraphina," Arthur said, his tone entirely flat. "The only people losing their livelihoods today are sitting at the head of this table."

He looked back at George. "I am a reasonable businessman. I will not call in the full debt today. Instead, I am restructuring the terms. Effective immediately, George Edward is removed from the position of Chief Executive Officer."

George gasped, his hand flying to his chest. "You can't remove me! I built this place!"

"I control fifty-one percent of the voting power, George. I can do whatever I want," Arthur replied calmly. "You will retain a minor advisory role with zero operational control. Your salary will be cut to the company minimum. You will keep an office in the basement level, and you will report to Elias every Monday morning."

The board members looked at each other in shock. For a proud man like George Edward, being forced to work in the basement of his own building and report to a lawyer was a fate worse than bankruptcy. It was total public humiliation.

"And if I refuse?" George hissed, his face turning red with suppressed rage. "If I walk out right now?"

"Then I call in the debt," Arthur said simply. "You will leave this building with nothing but the clothes on your back. Your personal assets, your house, and your vehicles are all tied up as collateral for those loans. If I press the button, you will be homeless by nightfall."

George’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. He looked around the table, silently begging his old friends on the board to speak up, to object, to offer a loan. But every single one of them looked down at the glass table. Nobody was going to risk their own fortune to save a falling tyrant.

Arthur adjusted his jacket and turned toward the exit. Elias immediately followed a step behind him, carrying the signed legal folders.

"You have until noon to vacate the executive office, George," Arthur said as he reached the glass doors. He didn't look back. "Elias will show you where your new desk is located."

With those final words, Arthur walked out of the boardroom, his steady footsteps fading down the hallway.

Seraphina sank back into her chair, covering her face with her hands as she began to sob quietly. George sat perfectly still, staring at the empty doorway, finally realizing that his former son-in-law had not just come back for his money. He had come back to take away their peace of mind, piece by piece.

At forty-five, Marcus was the ruthless crown prince of the Vanguard Group, a massive conglomerate that dominated the shipping lanes of the neighboring region. For years, he had wanted to swallow Edward Enterprises whole to control the local ports, but George Edward’s pride had always stood in the way.The heavy oak door opened, and George stepped into the dimly lit room. He looked terrible. His suit was wrinkled, his hair was messy, and he carried himself with the nervous energy of a desperate man."You look like a man who just survived a shipwreck, George," Marcus said, his vo

The atmosphere inside the conference room grew so cold that some of the board members looked as though they were struggling to breathe. Arthur remained perfectly still, his hands resting lightly on the polished glass surface of the table. He didn't need to raise his voice or slam his fists to dominate the space; his mere presence, steady and unyielding, was enough to make the air feel suffocatingly heavy.Thaddeus Cruz wiped a layer of cold sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. His tie was loosened, his expensive white shirt was wrinkled, and the ash from multiple cigars littered his pristine mahogany desk. Across from him, Thaddeus Cruz was aggressively pacing the floor, his phone glued to his ear as he tried, and failed, to reach any of their historical banking partners. Every call went straight to voicemail, or worse, was answered by cold, tight-lipped secretaries stating that their directors were "unavailable for the foreseeable future."The door to the office burst open, and Seraphina walked in. She hadn't slept either. Her eyes were rimmed with red, and she had traded her elegant gala gown for a sharp, dark business
