“I'm done with this marriage of a thing—It’s over between the both of us, Anthony.” Charlotte Harold said icily, seated across with her arms crossed on her chest.

Anthony’s eyes rose with surprise. But he found himself chuckling softly, disbelieving what Charlotte had just said.

His hand flew to his chest as if it skipped at Charlotte's words.

“Come on, Charlotte. Stop it. Stop joking about something as serious as this. Do you have any idea how my heart almost left my soul?” He casually said with a small smile, thinking she was just joking.

However, Charlotte repeated, “Do I look like I'm joking?” She frowned. “I'm deadly serious about it, Anthony. It's over between us.”

Not a single sign of a smile escaped her face. “I'm now the CEO of a big company that is held in high regard. This same company is worth over $30 million, qualifying it for the list of the top 20 richest companies in town. And someone like you shouldn't be seen around me.”

“What’s that supposed to mean, Charlotte?” Anthony interrupted, staring at her with a puzzled eyebrow. This same company that Charlotte is bragging about just now was the same company Anthony had supported with over $20 million from all his lifetime savings when the company was about to go bankrupt.

This means anything the company is today is a result of his support and effort.

Charlotte let out a slightly exasperated sigh. “Don’t act so idiotic to get where I'm heading…I’m tired of being with a loser like you. I need a divorce. I just want to get married to someone who is on the same financial level as me.” She said with a low voice, but each of her words daggered Anthony's heart, shattering its wall.

Then she continued coldly, “Someone to boost my status, the more, and not someone who depends on what I'll give to him. Harold's family needs to skyrocket, and you aren't in the position to help.”

Anthony saw her mean expression, and it then dawned heavily on him that Charlotte wasn't joking. She was deadly serious!

His cool expression slowly tightened. “What rubbish are you talking about, Charlotte? Have you forgotten I'm actually the one who made you who you are today? Your father's company is a better place now, I'm the mastermind behind it! Don't forget in haste how it almost went bankrupt!”

Consumed with rage, Anthony stood up and pointed his finger at Charlotte and spoke, his voice rising, “Charlotte, you are who you are today because of me! If not for me, your entire family would have been on the street begging for—”

“Oh, will you just shut up that gutter of yours!” A female voice sneered. A woman who seemed to be in her mid-50s, adorned with costly jewelry, approached.

Anthony looked up and recognized her. “Mom!”

It was Charlotte's mother, Aria Harold. She approached with a stern expression. “Drop that ‘mom’ to yourself! I can't be a mother to a poor orphan boy like you!” She spat.

Anthony's eyes flashed with disbelief, and his blood boiled. He had shown genuine love to this woman, and all she could do was to remind him that he was an orphan who?

“Mrs. Aria, are you part of this?” His voice came out, stammering with pain and emotions as he fought to hold back tears.

Aria smirked, clearly enjoying his expression. “Charlotte, whom you blindly considered as your wife, is no longer the same person whom you knew her to be yesterday. She has changed. In fact, she's a sought-after CEO.”

Anthony stood there, listening to her mocking voice. He felt his hand balling into a tight fist and his heart clutching.

He looked aside, only to see Charlotte seated with a comfortable and cold demeanor.

His face twisted in anger. They have used him! And now, they've planned to dump him!

Aria continued, still smirking, clearly the moment, “Charlotte here is getting married to Harry Winston, the heir of Winston's family. Together, it'll be easier to work with the biggest company—Almighty Anthony’s Empire—a company filled with men and women of caliber.”

The smirk on her face widened as she mocked, “What do you think, Anthony? Great strategy, right?”

Anthony didn't say a word. He shifted his gaze to Charlotte, the fake woman he had sacrificed everything for, and yet she had stabbed him in the back.

He couldn't help but stutter as he spoke, broken. “So, Charlotte, this is your plan, and you made me believe that you loved me. How dare you!”

The tears he had tried so much to hold back finally started streaming down his face. He couldn't hold it anymore.

It hurts really badly to have someone you trusted wholeheartedly betray you!

“Hey, pauper! Just so you know, this isn't a funeral ceremony!” Charlotte finally stood up and laughed at him.

Shaking her head, she continued, feigning pity, “Poor Anthony thought you were a brave boy. Why act like a coward just now? Haha. I'm sorry if it hurts, but that's not the end of it.” She brought out a sheet of white paper and a pen.

Anthony slowly wiped his teary eyes, furrowing an eyebrow at her, wondering what she was doing.

A minute later, Charlotte looked up and said, bringing the paper closer to Anthony. “Here. It's a cheque of $8,000. This will be enough to foot your bills, or you can start a business with it if you're sensible enough.” Her gaze was cold and distant.

Anthony's eyes flashed with disbelief. After everything he had done for her, especially for this family, this is how they were repaying his kindness? Unbelievable!

Before Anthony could even say a word, Aria chided in, “What are you waiting for? Go ahead to accept it. You should be grateful Charlotte is kind enough to even hand you a $8,000 cheque.” She scolded.

Anthony's eyes rolled between the two women, reality dawning on him so heavily.

If someone had told him this was what was going to happen to him today, he would have doubted it a million times because he had been more than kind to this family entirely.

Finally accepting his fate, Anthony manly wiped his tears properly and spoke, trying hard not to stammer, but ended up stammering. The betrayal hurts more than he could even imagine.

“Charlotte,” he called, “this is what you want, isn't it?” Charlotte nodded, and he continued, maintaining a composed demeanor. “It's fine. I respect your decision and I'm ready to give you the free space that you want since that will make you happy…..I don't want to be the reason you aren't happy.”

Glancing down at the cheque in Charlotte's hand, Anthony shamelessly took it. He worked for it, so he had nothing to be ashamed of, even if it wasn't up to what he had helped the family with.

But right at this moment, he had nothing left, and it would be foolish to walk away without taking it when he was unsure of what to do or where to even start now.

Aria laughed and, with a sarcastic voice, said, “I knew he was never going to reject this huge offer! I just wish it could be reduced to $2,000.”

Anthony only glared at her, wordless.

“One last thing before you leave,” Charlotte said firmly. She handed Anthony an A4 paper. “I've signed my part of the divorce papers, and I want you to sign yours as well.”

Anthony's heart sank heavily. He flashed a quick gaze at Charlotte, clearly disbelieving everything he was seeing.

It was just like a dream! Or what he mostly watched in Indian movies, where the man will, out of the blue, decide to end a marriage of about five years.

However, the case was different here, it was the woman who was doing the opposite.

Swallowing hard, Anthony nodded calmly, finding no need to stay where he wasn't needed. With a grab of a pen from the nearby table, Anthony was done signing his own part that was left vacant, craving for his signature.

When done, he looked up and said, “Done.” he hesitated before adding. “Have a nice day, and please be happy with your newfound lover.”

With that, he walked to the exit door, and without a glance at the back, he stormed out.

The sales associate’s smile of desperation to sell earlier slowly faltered, replaced with something else that was unreadable. There were so many others, way affordable than she had expected Anthony to choose from. Looking at Anthony, the sales associate smiled faintly, “Sir, are you sure you really want to purchase this? There are less expensive ones you can opt for.” She said, “I'll do the favor of showing them to you one after the other.” Hearing that, Anthony knew she was looking down on him. However, he shook his head, standing firm on his word as he repeated, “No, not opting for another. I want to purchase the NQi GT Pro. How much is it worth?” Seeing how firm Anthony's words were, the sales associate gave a short shrug and swallowed hard. If he insists, then there's no problem. Maybe if he hears the price, he'll have no other option but to opt for an affordable one. The sales associate thought in her mind. With that, she cleared her throat and answered, still sk

Liam smiled and nodded, “Yes. There are still a whole lot of things I need to show you.” He said, “Please, come with me.” Anthony hesitated, still looking around the whole room, before he nodded and followed him. Liam took him around the room and began to show him everything he needed to know. Anthony only nodded and remained silent, taking in everything as Liam explained professionally. When Liam was finally done, Anthony thanked him, “It was a plain explanation, easy to understand. Thanks for your explanation.” Liam beamed, happy he got everything, “It's my pleasure, Mr. Lawrence.” He observed his faint expression and asked, “Would you like to have something for lunch? I'll have it brought to you.” Remembering he said he wanted to purchase his first and new ride today, Anthony shook his head, “Thanks, but I've got something to attend to. Maybe that will be for another day.” Liam felt disappointed when he declined his request, but he nodded, “No problem, sir. Let me

Liam's hand trembled uncontrollably on his phone, finding it difficult to believe Mrs Samantha was actually calling. He glanced at Anthony. Was this young man telling the truth? Astonishment kicked in. Anthony looked at him and gave him a heads-up, urging him to pick up, “Go ahead, it's your boss calling.” He said with a brief smile that vanished almost immediately. Liam nodded, hit the answer button, and pressed the phone to his ear. “What took you so long to pick up?” Samantha's voice came out abruptly. Liam was quick to apologize, his voice slightly shaking, “I'm sorry, ma….” He still occasionally glanced at Anthony. “Hmm…alright. Hope you have seen that young man with you there, that's my son I told you about. He's the heir from now on; make sure to guide him through everything, alright?” “....alright. I'll do absolutely everything within my knowledge and experience to ensure he's perfectly trained.” Liam nodded, reassuring. “I trust you on that. Now, have a nic

Soon, Anthony arrived at the place. Almighty Anthony's Empire! Dipping his hand into his pocket, he paid the driver before stepping out. He froze as he stared at the towering height of the building; his heart skipped nervously. The driver who hadn't driven off after being paid said with concern, “Be careful as you go in, young man. Heard a lot about how people who go in there without a purpose get beaten up.” Then he drove away. Anthony watched him drive off and nodded. Taking in a confident breath to eradicate the nervousness, Anthony approached the large gate and knocked on it. “Who's that?” A voice came out, and the gate was opened, and a gate guard stepped out. His eyes trailed Anthony from his head down to his toes with disgust. “Are you the garbage man my boss told me would be coming in today?” He further asked. Anthony didn't want to start explaining himself to the gate guard, so he nodded, and the gate was opened wide for him. “Make sure you don't lean or touch

“Miss Charlotte, I saw Anthony, your husband, tore this before leaving the compound, and when I had a close look, it was a cheque, so I decided to come show it to you.” One of the clueless maidservants said, bowing her head as she handed the four pieces of paper to Charlotte. Smack! Smack! A tight slap went across her face twice. And her face went downcast, wincing in pain with her hand on the spot. It was Aria who slapped her before Charlotte could even react. “Don't you dare refer to that worthless orphan as my daughter's husband ever again! They're divorced, do you understand?!” The maidservant gave a knee-jerk reaction, “Yes, Ma. I'm sorry.” “Now get lost!” Aria gave her a quick gesture towards the exit door. And she nodded and wanted to hurry away, but Aria called back to her. “Go to his room, gather all his rag belongings, and set them on fire.” The maid-servant then nodded and hurried away with an “Okay, ma.” Aria then sighed annoyedly and looked at Charlott

Just as the call ended, Anthony stared at his phone in disbelief. He didn't know whether to scream or not—a very popular and rich family claiming that he was their son.Who is he to decline when he had always dreamed of this kind of life, but had never imagined it was coming too quickly? As he pondered above everything again and again, he buzzed up and began to ring again; it was the same number. So, he didn't hesitate to pick it up.“Hello, Anthony; I've contacted him, and they are eagerly waiting to have you so the operation can begin,” Samantha said right after the call connected.Anthony was still skeptical. “How am I sure you aren't lying here?” He asked. “Almighty Anthony's Empire is a powerful company, and you know how they can just kick me out if I go there.”“Don't fear anything. Nothing will happen to you; take my word!” Samantha said with so much firmness. However, Anthony shook his head unbeknownst to her, mumbling, “I'm not going. You want them to kill me.” Samantha pre

Anthony was taken aback by the mention of his name. How did this man get to know his name? And who is he? His mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. But he found himself nodding slowly, even though the man couldn't see him. “Yes, I'm Anthony,” he accepted and added, “and please, if you don't mind, may I know how you know my name and who you are?” He asked. The man from the other end chuckled softly, barely audible as he spoke with deep emotions, “Just like the way his mother talks—calm and respectful. Ah, my dear, Anthony! I can't believe I'm talking to you right now. I wish I could see your child-like face and touch it.” Anthony wasn't moved by the emotional words. Instead, a deep frown etched on his face. What was this man talking about—calling him dear? And why was he also talking about his mother? His eyebrows furrowed with surprise, yet a slight annoyance. He was pretty sure he had no parents. He was trained and brought up in the orphanage until Harold Westley, Charlotte'

Just after Anthony left, Charlotte, who had been watching as he exited, finally let out a relieved sigh. A wide grin parted her lips. Now, she was happy that Anthony was out of her life for good! Aria also exhaled, feeling at ease. They were about to experience a new phase of life, especially now that Anthony had left them for good. She thought with a lingering smile. Charlotte, all of a sudden, stood up on her feet, seeming to remember something. Aria raised an eyebrow at her. “Charlotte, what is it?” She asked. “His belongings,” Charlotte responded, “Anthony forgot to take his properties with him.” Her voice was laced with a little bit of concern. Aria frowned, “Why do you act like you care? Besides, those things of his are rags!” She then waved her hand in dismissal, “I'll instruct the servant to set them on fire after now.” Charlotte paused, looking at her mother before finally settling down in her seat. Meanwhile, as Anthony got outside, the servants’ gaze locke
