The ICU doors were wide open, like the gates to a treasure vault. The Kuranda family gathered outside the gates, as if they were queuing for a crown.

The moment the doctor allowed for visitation, chaos broke out in the lobby, leaving next to no distinction between the so-called elite class and the commoners they seemed to hate from the bottom of their hearts.

“I’ll go first!”

Wonga declared, her voice shrill at this high pitched volume. “I’m his wife, and it's my right.”

“Wait!” Dundarra’s brother snapped, puffing out his chest. “Blood comes before anything else. I’m his brother, so I’ll see him first!”

“Oh please…” scoffed Aunt Kakadu, pulling her scarf around her shoulders. “He is my younger brother, who has always trusted me with his matters, whether physical or financial. I’ll go in before either of you, as I'm the oldest.”

Meanwhile, Josie wasn't to be left behind and flipped her hair dramatically as she stepped forward.

“He adores me more than anyone here. I’ll brighten his s

The grand conference hall echoed with polite applause as the curtains of the opening ceremony fell. Lights dimmed just enough to guide guests toward the various exhibition wings. Waiters in starched uniforms glided silently through the aisles, trays heavy with champagne flutes and snacks. Connor stood on the periphery of the room, his sharp gaze sweeping across the crowd. The hall looked exactly as he had imagined during the nights of planning: sleek marble floors polished like mirrors, ambient lighting timed perfectly with each phase of the program, hi-tech displays running without a glitch. He knew Edward Cheller’s teams had executed his directions flawlessly, but the credit, he also knew, would never fall to him. That didn’t matter, as long as he had proved himself to Kirra, the only one who mattered anyway.Around mid-conference, the ushers began directing the key players to a more private chamber, tucked behind the main auditorium. Harold Jenson led the procession, his cape fl

The silence after the command was almost deafening. Heads swiveled toward the source of the voice. It was shrill, commanding, but carried the tremor of desperation. From the far side of the banquet hall, a woman in an embroidered gown pushed through the stunned crowd. Bandicoot’s mother, Lady Kakadu Kuranda, swept forward like a storm. Her eyes were blazing with fury, her chin lifted high.“What do you think you’re doing?” She demanded, her words slicing through the tension. She pointed at the guards still holding her son. “This is a conference by the Kuranda Group, and you dare throw out its heir? My son?! Have you all lost your senses?”But Edward Cheller didn’t flinch. He stood with his hands clasped behind his back, a faint smile tugging at his lips. His posture radiated the authority of a man who didn’t need to raise his voice to dominate.“I think you’re mistaken, dear aunty,” Edward said smoothly, the smirk never leaving his face. His tone was respectful enough to sting. “Fi

The Kuranda family pulled up to the venue, expecting a rural gathering of hay bales and folding chairs… a complete embarrassment, and the kind of chaos that they could laugh about for years.“Let’s see what our little janitor has cooked up!” Wonga muttered, while aunt Kakadu chimed in. “Probably, folding chairs and paper cups.”“Maybe a buffet of instant noodles?”Laughter rippled through the cousins and aunts. Even Elder Dundarra wore a thin smile, expecting failure to be plain and public. But as they stepped inside the convention center, the scene that greeted them stole the words from their tongues. The first thing they heard wasn’t chaos, it was praise.“This is so well organized!”A delegate whispered nearby, “Look at the staging… such a smooth integration of the LED panels. Whoever designed this knows international standards.”“Indeed, the whole place looks subtle and sophisticated. I’ve attended global summits that didn’t match this level.”“The staff are so polite, even the w

Connor stood by the wide office window, the city stretched below like a glittering chessboard. In his hand, the file of invitees felt less like a burden now, more like a challenge waiting to be met. Jimmy’s voice still echoed in his ear, steady and confident: “Give me the tasks, young master, and consider them done.”Connor turned from the skyline and sat, spreading the documents across his desk. He drew a pen down the list, grouping names and requirements into clean categories. Venue, catering, translation, accommodation, media, transportation, sponsorship. Each one was a mountain in itself.“Jimmy,” he said, placing the phone on speaker. “We’ll need specialists. Can you assemble teams?”Jimmy chuckled. “They’re already being contacted. For venue and staging, I’m calling Sterling & Co. Event Planners—they owe us after we secured their last government contract. For catering, D’Marco Hospitality—they’ll clear their schedule for you. Translators and interpreters—I’ll pull from the Inter

The night air had cooled the beach, the sky fading into purple skies and starry skies when Connor and Kirra finally gathered their things. They were halfway to the parking lot, when hurried footsteps pounded across the sand.“Wait!” A voice shouted, ragged with desperation.Connor turned, finding Clarke, Mitchell, and Cole stumbling toward them. The swagger of earlier was gone, their faces pale, shoulders hunched, eyes frantic. Their arrogance had drained away with the tide.Clarke was first, his words tumbling over themselves. “Listen, man, we didn’t mean it. We… we didn’t know who you were, alright? I’ve already called Apex back, begged them to reconsider, but they said I was blacklisted industry-wide. Please. You can fix this. Just… help me.”Mitchell nodded vigorously, his tone breaking. “Same with me. Horizon’s HR didn’t even give me time to explain. They just said I was finished. I’ve got bills, a family. I was wrong, alright? I shouldn’t have disrespected you.”Cole’s pride cr

Elder Dundarra adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses as Connor stepped out of the office, his gaze following Connor’s frame impatiently. The moment the door closed behind his son-in-law, his genial smile stiffened into a cold sneer, and his voice rose with authority.“Gentlemen…”Dundarra began, gesturing toward the three general managers who had just signed under Connor’s name, “let’s be frank. I am speaking solely in your interest, even though your decision might harm my own business in the long run. This man, Connor, might look like he pulled this off, but do you really think it was out of his own merit?”The three managers exchanged glances. Dundarra pressed on, lowering his voice to a conspiratorial tone.“He’s inexperienced. He knows nothing about real estate. The only reason he managed this is because he is married to my daughter. Out of family obligation, I stepped in with my own connections. The boy has no vision, no skills… nothing but nepotism carrying him forward. If you want
