Oscar was beginning to feel that his parents had deliberately made the thing difficult just to annoy whoever found it.
"How did they even put something inside when there's no way to open it?" "Fine. Sell it!" He stood up and went to get his phone. He pressed 1, 3 and 3. He was just about to dial it when he turned back to the heavy huge box only to notice a not-so-deep, small hole on one side of the box, close to the upper part, and unlike an ordinary round hole, its shape was slightly wider and curved at the top. Oscar leaned closer. "Huh?" He stared at it for several seconds. Why was the shape of the hole like that? "It looks like the shape of my thumb." His thumb suddenly came to mind. "Wait a minute." Slowly, he walked towards the box and brought his left thumb toward the opening and carefully placed it inside. It fit. Oscar's eyes widened as he pushed his thumb a little farther. The fit was almost perfect, as if the hole had been made specifically for his thumb. He pulled it out and stared at the opening before trying again, and once more his thumb slid into it without any resistance. Perfectly. Perfect fit. "That's strange." He wasn't convinced. Maybe it was just a coincidence. But what was the hole for? Oscar rubbed his chin as a strange thought slowly entered his mind. "What if it needs my blood to... No, that's stupid." He shook his head, but the idea refused to disappear. Oscar had always loved fantasy. He had watched Harry Potter, read My Vampire System and plenty of other fantasy stories where bloodlines were important, and there were always those situations where the main character only needed to use his blood before an ancient object worked. Oscar looked at the hole again. "What if this is one of those bloodline things and it needs my blood to open the box?" He immediately laughed at himself. "Am I seriously thinking like a character from a novel?" Still, the more he thought about it, the less ridiculous it seemed. His parents had died when he was three, they had somehow maintained Apartment 101 for decades, and now he had found a strange box buried beneath the floor of the same apartment. Plus, the wood hadn't decayed, the golden patterns looked nothing like anything he had seen before, and the hole fit his thumb perfectly. This was enough reason to have fantasy thoughts in this situation. Oscar looked at his thumb and then at the box. "Well, there's only one way to find out." He bit down hard on his thumb. "Ah!" Oscar quickly pulled his hand away and stared at the small amount of blood that had appeared. "That hurt." He shook his hand before giving the box another suspicious look. He had already come this far. He pushed his bleeding thumb into the hole. For several seconds, nothing happened.. "Of course." He was just about to pull his thumb out when a faint clicking sound suddenly came from inside the box—CLICK! Oscar froze. The lid moved slightly and a thin gap appeared around its edge as a small amount of dust escaped from inside. Oscar's eyes widened. "Wait..." The lid shifted again, opening a little farther. "Woo!" His excitement immediately returned. "It worked!" Oscar pulled his thumb out and laughed as he stared at the box. He had actually been right. His ridiculous fantasy theory had somehow worked. "Woo! Woo! Hahaha!" He quickly grabbed both sides of the lid. Even the lid was heavy as hell. Finally the lid lifted and a cloud of dust like thick intense smoke rushed out of the box, making Oscar lean backward and wave his hand in front of his face. "Whoa!" He coughed a few times before the dust slowly settled. When he finally looked inside, his excitement disappeared. He was confused. "Where's the gold? The money?" He croaked. "No landed documents? What the fuck is this?" Inside the box was basically the map of Earth lying inside, but it's flat. Flat Earth Map! Oscar leaned closer. "Great. Just great. Now who would give me two bags of rice for this?" He was basically looking at the world right now. The continents, oceans and landmasses were all there, but this wasn't a normal map printed on paper. The entire thing had been physically reduced to a miniature scale and placed inside the box. From above, it looked like a detailed map, but Oscar could clearly see that it had depth. Mountains rose from the tiny land, roads crossed between miniature cities, and small buildings covered some of the areas. Oscar slowly touched the surface with his finger. It was real. He could feel the sharp tips of the mountains beneath his fingertip. "What kind of map is this?" He picked up this one high-resolution binocular microscope he has had for a long long time and wiped the dust from the lens before looking into the box again. The miniature world became clearer through the binocular microscope, and Oscar slowly moved across the continents until he reached North America. "That's my continent." All of North America except one country was covered by a strange mist, making it impossible to see what was beneath it. Half parts of that country too was also covered, but the other half was much clearer than the others. Oscar adjusted the focus and moved the binocular toward it. The image became clearer. He could see roads, buildings and even vehicles. Oscar's eyes widened when he noticed that some of them were moving. "Damn!" He adjusted the binocular again. A very few people were walking along the tiny streets. Military cars were traveling between the buildings. Oscar stared at the miniature world in disbelief. The people were so small—tiny—compared with him. He would never be able to distinguish them without the binocular, but there was no doubt that they were moving on their own. "Wait..." He slowly moved the binocular across the land. The shape of the country became familiar. Then the capital city came into view. Oscar's breathing stopped, "That's my country. United Nigilstar Coast!" He adjusted the focus again and followed the roads away from the capital. He recognized the state, then the surrounding area, and finally the neighborhood where he lived. His hand began trembling. Oscar moved the binocular again. There it was—Apartment 101. It was tiny, of course. Compared with Oscar, the entire building looked like a very small model, but he knew it immediately. He could see the little entrance and the tiny locked door at the front. Oscar looked up at the actual door of Apartment 101 before looking back through the binocular. Oscar quickly brought out a larger, sharper binocular and stared through it. The miniature capital city became much clearer, and this time he could see even more of what was happening below. People were walking around the streets, vehicles were moving between the buildings and several military personnel were making their way through the city in the uniform of his country. Then Oscar noticed a man walking out of a supermarket. The man was carrying a large box filled with sanitary pads, while two bodyguards followed behind him carrying more supplies. They walked toward two waiting cars, and the guards began loading everything into the two trunks. Oscar stared for several seconds before his eyes widened. "Wait, isn't that Senator Kimberly?" He adjusted the binocular. It was him. "That's Senator Kimberly!" Oscar almost laughed when he recognized the senator. He watched as the man entered his car while his two bodyguards continued loading the supplies, and then Oscar looked at the soldiers moving through the streets nearby. "So that's what they're doing?" The government had stopped providing regular social amenities to ordinary citizens weeks ago. At first, they had still knocked on doors and delivered food and basic necessities, but the deliveries became less frequent until they eventually stopped. Now people like Oscar were left inside their designated areas with almost nothing, while people like Senator Kimberly could still walk into a supermarket, buy supplies and have his bodyguards load everything into his private vehicle. Oscar shook his head. "So the rich can still go outside and get things for themselves, while the poor are locked inside." He looked at Senator Kimberly again and gave a small laugh. He had eight daughters and a very obese wife. "God really gave you enough work," he chuckled. But his smile vanished. Something wasn't right. Oscar slowly lowered the binocular and stared at the box. How was this possible? How could he be seeing what the senator is doing right now? He needed to prove to himself that he was not loosing his mind. And that he's really seeing what is happening in half parts of his country. Oscar picked up the binocular again and looked toward his capital city. In the middle of a large open area stood a huge statue of President Yoka Temples, one of the most recognizable landmarks in the capital. Oscar stared at it before looking down at his fingers. "I wonder... If I use my finger to cause trouble in this box's miniature world, would it affect the real world I live in?"Latest Chapter

The Anchor looked shocked as he spoke, “At this moment, we have reports concerning hundreds of government officials across nine states, including the capital who have been confirmed dead.”Oscar slowly looked toward the needle on his stool. A smile appeared on his face.Otto continued, “We are still trying to confirm exactly what is happening, but according to the information we have received, these officials suddenly fell in wherever they stood with blood on them like they were blasted by a very very big cannon ball."Oscar leaned back. “So it worked.”He had used the needle to pierce the officials, one by one. And it killed them.Otto looked into the camera, “Could this be God?”Oscar laughed.Otto continued, “Could this be a sign that God is finally answering the prayers of the people?”But he looked nervous as he spoke. “Or could this be something else? Could we have an invisible enemy inside our country? Could we have been invaded by something we cannot see? Aliens?”“Invaders i

The newsroom of UNC Dog News was unusually noisy.Anchor Otto Levi was sitting behind the news desk, looking at the large screen in front of him. The screen was showing the town square in the capital city, where a huge crater had suddenly appeared after President Yoka Temples' statue was pushed deep into the ground by something that nobody could see.The President himself was there.Several senators were standing around him, together with military commanders and other government officials. Everyone was staring at the enormous hole in the middle of the town square, trying to understand what had happened.Otto also wanted to understand it.But more than anything, he wanted to go home.He had a wife waiting for him at home, and she was already eight months pregnant. He also had two small children, his two-year-old daughter Maria and his four-year-old son, Otto Junior. Oscar had just sat down again when he heard the sound of his door being unlocked. His eyes immediately narrowed. For the past few weeks, nobody had visited him except when the government sent someone to deliver supplies. But those deliveries had stopped long ago. Now, whenever people came knocking, it usually meant they wanted something from the people who were already struggling to survive.Oscar clenched his fists under the table as the door opened. Two men walked inside. They were both wearing government uniforms, and unlike Oscar, who had become thin and lanky from weeks of eating less than he should, the two men were still big and well-built. Their faces showed no concern for the miserable state of the apartment. One of them looked at Oscar and said, “You’re Oscar Kingston?”“Yes.”The man nodded. “I'm Marcus. This is Ethan. Charlotte and Gideon reported that you owe them ten liters of water and two kilograms of rice.”Oscar stared at him.For a moment, he wondered if he had hear

At this moment, Oscar's phone suddenly rang.He was startled and immediately looked at the phone, his first thought being that the government had somehow discovered what was happening. Could they have already found out that he was connected to the strange incident in the capital? His hand reached for the phone quickly, but when he saw the name on the screen, his expression changed.“Charlotte?”The screen showed her name with several heart and kissing emojis beside it.Oscar stared at it for a moment.Charlotte was the girl he had loved before and even date for more than six years.Back when they were in free high school together, Oscar had always been the one doing things for her. He was an orphan, so he had to work odd jobs whenever he needed money, although he never had to worry about school fees because he had been a scholarship student. He was naturally smart, especially when it came to subjects like Geography, History, and Economics, but university was different. Because he s

Oscar's pinky finger hovered over the miniature steel statue of President Yoka Temples. The miniature world looked so small that his pinky was almost as wide as the entire country.Curious, Oscar slowly pressed the statue of his dear president with his pinky finger."Let's see if this thing is real."He applied a little more pressure, and the steel statue suddenly bent.Oscar's eyes widened. "Huh?"He pressed again, and this time the statue broke apart before being pushed straight into the ground beneath it. The miniature street cracked around the statue, leaving a deep mark where his finger had pressed down.Oscar quickly pulled his pinky away and stared at it.He didn't feel any pain. In fact, he had barely felt anything at all. It was nothing more than a little tickle against his skin, which made sense considering how tiny the statue was compared to his smallest finger."That was supposed to be steel, right?" Oscar muttered while rubbing his pinky against his other hand.He looked
