Oscar's pinky finger hovered over the miniature steel statue of President Yoka Temples. The miniature world looked so small that his pinky was almost as wide as the entire country.

Curious, Oscar slowly pressed the statue of his dear president with his pinky finger.

"Let's see if this thing is real."

He applied a little more pressure, and the steel statue suddenly bent.

Oscar's eyes widened. "Huh?"

He pressed again, and this time the statue broke apart before being pushed straight into the ground beneath it. The miniature street cracked around the statue, leaving a deep mark where his finger had pressed down.

Oscar quickly pulled his pinky away and stared at it.

He didn't feel any pain. In fact, he had barely felt anything at all. It was nothing more than a little tickle against his skin, which made sense considering how tiny the statue was compared to his smallest finger.

"That was supposed to be steel, right?" Oscar muttered while rubbing his pinky against his other hand.

He looked through the binoculars again, and his expression slowly became serious. The statue that had been standing in the middle of the capital's town square was now buried in the ground, with the surrounding street crushed beneath it.

Oscar swallowed.

If this miniature world was really connected to the world outside the box, then what he had just done should have happened in the real world too.

"But how can that be possible?"

He stared at the miniature capital for several seconds, trying to convince himself that he was imagining things. There was no way a tiny world inside an old wooden box could possibly be the real world. It sounded completely ridiculous.

Just as he was about to laugh at himself, the ground beneath his feet gave a small shake.

Oscar froze.

He looked around his apartment. "Did I just feel that?"

The apartment became quiet again, and Oscar frowned. Maybe he was simply imagining things.

His phone suddenly dinged.

He quickly grabbed it and saw a notification from UNC Dog News. The moment he opened the message, his expression changed.

BREAKING NEWS: PRESIDENT YOKA TEMPLES' STATUE, MAN OF STEEL, SUDDENLY DRIVEN INTO THE GROUND IN CAPITAL CITY

"..."

According to the news, the president's enormous steel statue in the middle of the capital's town square had suddenly been pushed deep into the ground, leaving behind a huge hole. Emergency workers and military personnel had already surrounded the area, but nobody had been able to explain what had happened.

The report stated that the statue had gone approximately nine feet into the ground, while the area surrounding it had also been badly damaged.

Oscar's mouth slowly opened. "Nine feet?"

A picture of the damage was displayed by the UNC Dog News too.

He immediately looked away from his phone toward the box. His hands began to tremble slightly as he picked up the binoculars again.

The scene inside the box was exactly the same as the damage in the broadcasted image. The miniature statue had been pushed into the ground and the surrounding streets had been crushed.

The shape of the damage even matched the shape of his pinky.

Oscar's heart started beating faster.

According to the news, there had been no explosion and no visible object falling from the sky. There was not even an earthquake strong enough to explain the strange damage. It was as if something enormous had suddenly slammed into the middle of the capital without anyone being able to see it.

The reporters were already comparing the impact to something as massive as a gigantic meteor rock or an object weighing more than four mountains, yet there was no sign of what could have caused it.

Oscar slowly lowered the phone.

He looked at his pinky again, then he looked at the box.

"No way..."

The electricity suddenly came back on, making Oscar blink as the apartment was filled with light again. He didn't waste any time. He grabbed the remote, switched on the television, and immediately searched for the news.

The same images appeared on the screen.

The capital city was surrounded by soldiers and emergency workers, while a huge hole had replaced the place where President Yoka Temples' statue had once stood.

Oscar stared at the television without saying anything.

His phone started ringing. It was one of his friends.

Oscar answered the call.

Godwin raised his voice in utter bewilderment. "Guys! Dude, did you just hear what happened?"

"Yeah, I'm watching it right now," Oscar said.

"Bro, we are certainly toasted!"

Oscar frowned, "What are you talking about?"

"Don't you understand? This is a sign! God has abandoned us!"

Oscar couldn't help laughing.

Godwin continued speaking in a panicked voice. "It's not just the famine anymore. God wants to destroy this world again, just like He did to Abraham in the Bible!"

"Noah," Oscar corrected.

"What?"

"God destroyed the world with the flood in Noah's time. Not Abraham."

There was a short silence until Godwin wasn't having it. "Shut up! That's not the important part!"

Oscar laughed even harder. "I don't think it's a bad thing."

"Dude, are you literally stupid? Something just pushed down the president's statue!"

"I know."

"A huge statue!"

"I know."

"And you are laughing?"

Oscar looked at the box sitting on the floor. He was laughing because he was the 'thing' that caused it.

He turned back to the TV, phone still close. "I think it's a good thing."

Godwin became silent again.

Suddenly, "You've gone crazy."

"Maybe," Oscar said with a small grin. "But I'll bet you something."

"What?"

"I bet it's something good."

"Good? What could possibly be good about this?"

Oscar didn't answer.

There was no way he could explain what he had just discovered. If he told his friend that he had pressed his pinky against a miniature steel statue inside a mysterious wooden box and the exact same statue had been pushed into the ground in the real world, his friend would probably think the famine had finally made Oscar lose his mind.

So Oscar simply laughed. "You'll see."

"Dude, I'm serious!"

"I know. I'll call you later."

Before his friend could say anything else, Oscar ended the call.

He slowly placed the phone on the table and turned his attention back to the box. The television continued reporting the strange incident, but Oscar barely listened anymore.

There was no longer any doubt in his mind.

Oscar looked down at his pinky and smiled.

"If this is actually true..."

He slowly raised his head and stared at the strange world inside the wooden box.

"...then I can actually be God."

Oscar had just sat down again when he heard the sound of his door being unlocked. His eyes immediately narrowed. For the past few weeks, nobody had visited him except when the government sent someone to deliver supplies. But those deliveries had stopped long ago. Now, whenever people came knocking, it usually meant they wanted something from the people who were already struggling to survive.Oscar clenched his fists under the table as the door opened. Two men walked inside. They were both wearing government uniforms, and unlike Oscar, who had become thin and lanky from weeks of eating less than he should, the two men were still big and well-built. Their faces showed no concern for the miserable state of the apartment. One of them looked at Oscar and said, “You’re Oscar Kingston?”“Yes.”The man nodded. “I'm Marcus. This is Ethan. Charlotte and Gideon reported that you owe them ten liters of water and two kilograms of rice.”Oscar stared at him.For a moment, he wondered if he had hear

Oscar was beginning to feel that his parents had deliberately made the thing difficult just to annoy whoever found it. "How did they even put something inside when there's no way to open it?""Fine. Sell it!"He stood up and went to get his phone. He pressed 1, 3 and 3. He was just about to dial it when he turned back to the heavy huge box only to notice a not-so-deep, small hole on one side of the box, close to the upper part, and unlike an ordinary round hole, its shape was slightly wider and curved at the top.Oscar leaned closer."Huh?"He stared at it for several seconds. Why was the shape of the hole like that? "It looks like the shape of my thumb."His thumb suddenly came to mind. "Wait a minute." Slowly, he walked towards the box and brought his left thumb toward the opening and carefully placed it inside. It fit.Oscar's eyes widened as he pushed his thumb a little farther. The fit was almost perfect, as if the hole had been made specifically for his thumb. He pulled it ou
