Chapter thirty two
The rubble shifted. Not from impact but from movement. Ethan pushed himself up slowly, one arm trembling as it dragged across broken wood and concrete fragments. His breathing was uneven now—ragged, forced—like his body had forgotten how to cooperate with him. Blood dripped from his chin onto the dust. Yet he was smiling again. Not confidently this time. But stubbornly. “You… really think… you’ve won?” he coughed out. Miles stood a few meters away, expression unreadable. The wind around him had settled into a quiet, tense spiral, like it was waiting for permission. “I don’t think,” Miles said calmly. “I observe.” Ethan let out a broken laugh. “Observe this then.” He lifted his hand again. Nothing happened. His fingers trembled slightly then he frowned. Then tried again—harder this time. The air… refused him. For the first time, panic flickered across his face. “What did you do?” Miles tilted his head slightly, “I didn’t do anything yet.” That silence hit harder than a

Ethan didn’t move at first. He only stared at the rising dust, watching it coil around Miles like something alive. Then he smiled.“You think that little trick scares me?” Ethan tilted his head. “Eric is weak. That’s why you took his power so easily.”Miles didn’t answer. His eyes stayed fixed, calm, unreadable. The wind around him thickened, circling faster now, tugging at loose papers, shaking the broken edge of the storage roof. The girl on the ground crawled backward, dragging herself behind a rusted metal bin.“P-please…” she whispered. “Stop…”Ethan didn’t even glance at her. “I don’t care about her anymore,” he said. “You just made this personal.”Miles exhaled slowly. “That’s where you’re wrong,” he said. “It stopped being personal when you put your foot on her bag.”A sharp silence followed. Then—WHOOSH!Ethan moved. Not forward. Not backward.Up.The ground under his feet cracked as he launched himself into the air with brutal force, twisting mid-flight.“Let’s see how you

Miles didn't hesitate. The cry came again, louder this time. "Help! Somebody, please!" His eyes narrowed. The voice was coming from behind the old storage building near the football field. Without a second thought, he sprinted. The students who had been watching him clean the field looked confused. "Where's he going?" "I think someone screamed." "Probably another fight." Miles rounded the corner of the storage building and immediately froze. Three students stood in a circle. Two boys and a girl. The girl was on the ground, clutching her wrist. One of the boys had his foot pressed against her backpack while the other held her phone. Miles recognized them instantly. The twins. They were also bullies and played a part in impacting fears into most of the studies in the school. Eric and Ethan Doyle. Second-year students. Both were notorious for stealing from weaker students. The girl looked terrified. "Please," she begged. "Give it back. That's all I have." Ethan laughed. "

Miles needed the power. He knew that after the fight he had with Jack. The news of Kyle's power returning back to him had spread far and wide around the school ground. "Kyle just used his powers this morning." "Wait. What?" another student said in disbelief. "Someone saw him shooting a fireball in the training field today." "But Miles took his powers? How is that even possible? Does Maya have her piers back?" "It is only a matter of time before she does. Miles is not as scary as we think he is." As Miles walked through the hallway, they all looked at him. Some wondered what was going on with him while some laughed. "Maybe Jack Voss scared the shit out of him." "I bet he is going to return Maya's powers soon enough." Miles clenched his fist so tight he could feel his nails digging into his palms. "Damn you system." he cursed under his breath. The moment he walked into his department, he saw Jack Voss in front of his desk. "What do you want?" Miles s

Still, Miles couldn't connect the dot between Jack Voss and his father. There was no way he knew about the science project Dennis Lawson was working on. Miles' brain had a quick flash back. Just one person had always stayed with him, assisted him and that was Maya. She was the only person who knew about what he was doing. Miles shut the system that was opened right in front of him. "System?" He called out loud but no reply came back. Ever since the system gave it rules and regulations, it seems it had gone quiet. No words, nothing. Miles fell to the bed with a great thud. He shut his eyes again trying to scan through Dennis memories. Maybe there was something he was missing. He kept digging and digging until he felt a liquid trickle down his nose. Miles immediately tilted his head backwards. "What the...." He rushed into the bathroom and tried to stop the blood flowing from his nose. He met Lilith in the dinning room the moment he walked in. "Come here. We have got to talk." she said in a feisty tone.Miles paused. His reflection in the full length mirror closer to the door showed Dennis. He was not only wearing an angry look but his face was pretty messed up by the fire. Miles immediately stepped away from the mirror. He was not sure if someone could see what he was seeing. "I don think I want to talk about anything right now." he said back looking at Lilith. "I am just going to go back to my room." Lilith dressed herself on the chair she sat on again. She dropped her cutlery and frowned. "You are going to listen to me when I talk to you. I am your mother!" she barked. Miles frowned and immediately found his legs moving towards the dinning room. Lilith picked up her cutlery and kept eating. She didn't seem both
