“What did he say?” Lizzy blinked, leaning forward. “Who?”

He stared at the TV in disbelief.

The screen showed Krazy standing from the Gold table, quiet, composed — buttoning his jacket as soldiers stood in salute.

The applause thundered. Every officer in the hall stood in respect.

And at home, Damon slumped onto the couch, his jaw tightening. “Impossible… that can't be! it should’ve been me! I was the one rewarded with the five Pennants!" His face turned ghostly white.

Even Lizzy’s smile had vanished entirely.

Bill’s jaw slackened. “What… what's going on?"

Adele’s lips parted, her breath caught in her throat as she turned to him — Craig… General?

The host gestured toward him from the stage, his tone almost reverent.

“Sir, it is an honor to have you grace this hall tonight. The nation owes you more than words can express.”

As Krazy walked through the aisle, soldiers and officers from every table rose to their feet.

Applause thundered again — but this time, not out of politeness. It was respect. Fear. Reverence.

No one dared to meet his gaze.

The same guards who had thrown out Hector and Damon earlier stood stiffly at attention, saluting as he passed.

On the giant screen above the stage, images flashed — battlefield footage, men saluting in the rain, medals being pinned to his chest. “General Krazy Guidotti — The Ghost of the Eastern Warfront.”

Gasps filled the room. His intimidating aura, got even the top soldiers bowing in fear.

Adele’s hands trembled under the table. The same man her family mocked — was being honored by the nation.

Bill stared at the screen, pale. “Those five pennants…” he whispered. “They were his?”

And as Krazy reached the stage, the host bowed slightly before handing him the microphone — eyes lowered, not daring to look him in the face.

“Sir,” the host said softly, “thank you… for your service.”

Krazy’s voice was calm, deep, and steady.

“Not every man who bleeds for his country lives for its praise,” he said, scanning the crowd. “Some of us fight only to keep the peace others take for granted. Please enjoy your evening.”

As Krazy descended the stage, heads bowed. No one laughed, no one whispered. Only the quiet echo of boots against marble.

The air shifted when the host stepped onto the podium.

Cheers erupted throughout the hall.

Back at the Lancaster mansion, Damon crushed the glass stem in his hand, the wine dripping like blood down his fingers.

Even Hector was too stunned to speak. His eyes stared glued to the screen, his jaw tightened, trying to comprehend what just happened.

On-screen, Krazy nodded slightly and left the stage — while every man in the hall turned to face him with reverence.

The same man they once called useless… is being recognised on national TV? How in the world was this even possible?

Krazy returned to his seat as though nothing monumental had happened. The applause had long faded, but the weight of the moment lingered like static in the air. Across the table, Adele’s gaze hadn’t left him once.

He could feel the confusion and disbelief radiating from her side of the table.

"I'm guessing you have questions."

“I have more of a statement…” Her voice could pass for a whisper. “But for now… tell me what just happened. Dad is—” she glanced over her shoulder, noticing her father had already left his seat, “—he walked out. Is this… what just happened? What are you? A general? How?"

For an insignificant ex soldier, she didn't expect anyone to even take a glance at him.. But all these men refused to sit until he had his seat? There was no way that was done to just any soldier. He was even given the general title.. It's either they had mistaken Krazy for someone else, or there was a mix up somewhere.

Krazy exhaled, leaning back slightly, his eyes distant yet sharp.

Krazy finally met her eyes — calm, unreadable. “It’s nothing special.” He didn’t come back to prove anything to anyone.

She blinked, incredulous. “Nothing special? They gave you five Pennants! The entire hall bowed to you. You didn't tell us those pennants were yours and not Damon's."

He leaned back, his tone light but edged with weariness. “The same thing’s given to over a thousand soldiers every year. Today was simply my turn. It’s just… routine recognition, Adele.”

Her brow furrowed, disbelief still heavy in her voice. “Routine? The host bowed and called you General.”

Krazy’s lips twitched slightly — a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Hosts exaggerate. Makes for a better show.”

"Really?" Adele asked suspiciously.

"Yes. In fact, those pennants weren’t for me alone. They were for the entire task force I led. Commanders just hand them over to the one who represents the team. It’s protocol, not prestige. Those awards don’t always go to the best. Sometimes they go to whoever made it back alive. I happened to be one of the few who did.”

Adele heaves a sigh of relief, "They should be more specific next time.." She said, sipping her drink.

Just then, his phone buzzed sharply against the table. Adele saw that the picture she took years ago was still saved at his lock screen. When Krazy picked it up, and saw the text, he knew it was time for him to leave.

“I’ve got somewhere to be,” he said softly, standing. “Come. I'll drive you home first."

"What? Where are you going? We got here an hour ago.. besides, I'm enjoying the show.. I'm not leaving.. I'd go with dad instead.." She shook her head.

Krazy turned to see his father-in-law with some of his friends. "Something came up. It's urgent. But are you sure you don't want me to take you home?"

“I’m sure. Don’t stay up late.”

He leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead — then walked out.

Rain misted the night air when he stepped outside.

A cigarette glowed between his fingers as he slid into his car, exhaling smoke like he was releasing a different version of himself.

Minutes later, he stopped in front of a tall building washed in neon and rain light.

Inside, bad jazz clashed with the soft moans leaking from the back rooms.

The place stank of cheap perfume and wet leather.

Krazy scanned the bar — eyes cold, calculating — searching for his contact.

He pulled out his phone, about to call, when a sharp cry snapped across the room.

“C’mon! Don’t pretend you won’t enjoy it!”

A drunk man had a woman cornered — one hand on the counter, the other crushing her wrist.

She shoved at him weakly, voice slurred but still fierce.

“I said no. Let go of me!”

The man chuckled, dark and ugly.

“Feisty. I like that. Makes it better. Don’t make me force you… just listen to the moaning. You’ll warm up.”

Krazy turned away. He had no patience for stupidity tonight.

He put the phone to his ear. “Daniel. Three things I hate: coffee, strangers moaning, and being kept waiting.”

“I—I deserve death, Lord General. I know. But that club was the only place the West wouldn’t—”

“I said get away from me, you freak!” the woman yelled.

“If I don’t fuck you, I’ll kill myself.”

Daniel fell silent. Even through the phone, the disgust was clear.

Krazy closed his eyes, exhausted by the noise.

He ended the call.

Then his voice landed — low, quiet, deadly.

“She said no.”

The man pretended not to hear and yanked the woman by the arm, dragging her away.

Krazy stepped forward. “If I repeat myself, you’ll regret it.”

The man scoffed. “She’s my girlfriend. Mind your business.”

“Not while your affair is disturbing my ears.” Krazy snapped and the room shifted.

Afternoon light spilled through the café windows in soft gold bands, catching on dust and steam. Penny was dressed in simply—a cream blouse, fitted jeans, and hair loosely curled. She looked fresh, unpolished in a pretty, effortless way. And Adele? She sat by the window, sipping her coffee as they chatted. Her dress was modest, pastel blue, long sleeves buttoned neatly at her wrists. Her posture is straight enough to draw respect but soft enough not to intimidate. She looked gentle—too gentle, like someone who practiced being gentle. A waiter dropped off two coffees. Steam curled between them like a veil. After sipping her coffee, Adele lifted her head, “...hmm, of course.. you mentioned Craig helped you yesterday?” Her voice stayed smooth, but her eyes sharpened by a fraction. “Who was he with at the bar?” She asked with a friendly smile. Penny’s throat tightened. Her mind flashed back to the man's hand holding her upright, her own reckless kiss before everything went black. She

Suddenly, her lips curved into a perfect smile, so suddenly it almost hurt to look at. “You’re up,” she said softly. Her tone was warm. Her eyes were not. “I was worried your breakfast would get cold.” Krazy blinked. “You’re cooking for me? This early?” She turned back to the board, slicing faster. “It’s your first day at Lancaster Corp. I thought you’d want to start the day right.” There was warmth in her voice, but it didn’t reach her eyes. When he stepped closer, she smiled again — but her hand was still clenching the knife very hard. “I appreciate it but you should be resting.” “Resting? Nonsense. You're my husband, so it's only right I cook for you,” Adele smiled, stirring the sliced peppers in the pot. At 7:30, the city buzzed with the weekday rush. Adele parked by the gates of Silver Academy, stepping out with Sophia’s hand in hers. “Mummy, why am I going to a new school?” The little girl asked her mum after the registration. “Because mummy wants the bes

“And who the hell are you..” Krazy moved in one fluid motion — a twist of the wrist, a sharp turn, and the man was on his knees, gasping for air, his arm locked behind him. The entire bar went quiet. Krazy’s tone never changed. “Walk away!” "AHH!" The man cried out. Without a second thought, he scrambled to his feet, clutching his wrist and muttering curses, disappearing into the dark corner of the bar. “You should go home.” He tells the lady. “I will. My car is parked outside after all…” The lady staggered as she rose to her feet and Krazy could smell her drunken state from where he stood, “Thank you.” She said with a grateful smile. He just nodded slightly, his eyes scanning her — not in the way men in bars usually did, but as if he was assessing her safety in her state. The lady took two steps forward, but the room tilted in slow motion and before she could take another step, she lost balance but a strong arm caught her around the waist. Craig steadied her effortle
