Michael plopped down onto the sofa when he arrived home, exhausted.
He hadn't eaten lunch, and now he didn't feel like eating dinner either. The events of the day had been too tiring, especially for someone like him who wasn't used to dealing with this kind of chaos.
He leaned back on the sofa and rested his head on the headrest. When he closed his eyes, the image of Ruby lying on the street flashed back into his mind. Her skull was shattered, and her neck was twisted at an unnatural angle, which the police found highly suspicious. Her bones were also badly broken, making it a horrific sight for anyone who saw her.
But aside from his secretary, what bothered him even more was the delivery boy who was the only witness.
Yes, he was the only one who saw it - or maybe Ruby did too. He wasn't sure, since he couldn't talk to her anymore.
However, it was clear to him what Ruby and the invisible entity on the CCTV footage were discussing. Ruby called the entity "SIR".
His friend had suggested that maybe Ruby saw his face on the CCTV before she died.
When they checked the footage of him talking to a delivery boy who supposedly was let into his office by Jam, they didn't see anyone else but him.
Even the police investigators were stumped, scratching their heads because this was the first time they had encountered a situation like this.
He rubbed his face with his palms. He shouldn't be scared. He shouldn't be like this. He had nothing to worry about because he hadn't sold his soul to get rich. His conscience was clear.
Michael stood up and walked towards his bedroom. He lived alone in the condo unit, so no one would be there to serve him.
He was about to open the door when his phone rang. It was Jam calling.
"Mike, how are you? Did you get home?" Jam asked.
"Yeah, I just got home."
"Don't worry about it, Mike, okay? We're all here for you. You have nothing to worry about because everyone knows you're not at fault."
Michael sighed. Was that really true? He didn't know the answer to that. He thought the woman might have been caught up in his bad luck.
"Thank you."
"By the way, Mike, what's the plan for the party you've been preparing? Is it still on?"
"That's what I'm thinking about. I'm hesitant to cancel it, but the invitation cards have already been distributed. I don't want this incident to be the reason it doesn't push through."
Two weeks later…
"That's a lovely brooch, son..." The person he was talking to was referring to the brooch made of stone that his grandmother had left him. He had pinned it to his chest pocket.
Michael was conversing with a senator who was also a businessman. They were on the lawn of his mansion, where his party was being held to celebrate his achievement as the top businessman in Asia. It was a great honor to be recognized not just in his country but also internationally. Even the Spectre Elite Magazine, a renowned publication based in New York, had featured him on the cover of their latest issue.
They were in the middle of their conversation when the lights suddenly went out, so he excused himself. He couldn't find any helpers, so he went inside the house himself. Fortunately, his guests remained calm despite the sudden power outage. Since it was a full moon, the surroundings weren't too dark.
As he was heading towards the power source, he caught sight of a figure going up the stairs.
"Who are you?" he asked, but the person didn't even bother to stop. Instead, they quickened their pace towards the floor where his room was located.
Since he didn't have time to call for security, Michael decided to follow the person. With the help of the moonlight, he saw the figure standing outside his room, as if waiting for him to see them.
Once the figure was sure Michael had seen him, he entered the room. He even left the door ajar, so Michael ran towards his own room without thinking about his safety.
But what he did was a huge mistake!
As soon as his feet touched the floor inside the dark room, a cold object pierced his chest. He grimaced in pain as he felt the knife stabbing him.
He gasped when the perpetrator twisted the knife inside his chest! He could feel the person's anger through the act...
He struggled!
And when the person suddenly pulled out the knife from his chest, Michael exhalated sharply, and blood gushed out of the wound! He coughed, causing blood to splatter in his mouth.
As he was about to collapse, the person grabbed his hair and struck the back of his head with something before leaving.
Michael fell to the floor, convulsing while holding his bloody chest...
As he lay dying, he heard a voice and saw the brooch on his chest glowing. The brooch was stained with his blood.
H-help me... his mind pleaded as he saw an inexplicable figure standing in front of him. The figure was similar to the one in his dream. It was like a mirage, like smoke, like an angel—
No! It's not an angel!
It's a—
Demon!
The figure in front of him didn't speak. But it moved...
It moved towards him...
And before he lost his
life, Michael felt an intense chill spreading through the wounds he had sustained…

A long-standing silence had settled between the two, a silence that felt like it could shatter his eardrums at any moment.Every tick of the clock and D's lack of response only added to his anxiety."D—?" He was about to say something, but D spoke up first."Do you really want to know? I can take you to the time where all these things started."Michael froze at the words. Yes, he did want to know when it all started for his family. But he hadn't expected D to offer to take him back to that time.It was both terrifying and fascinating. And he wasn't ready to go back to that time. He didn't want to. He was hesitant, fearing he might not be able to return, like someone lost in an unfamiliar place.Michael shook his head and stood up. He's not that adventurous, so he declined D's offer. He was about to walk away when he remembered something and stopped. He needed to attend to some papers in his office."I'm going to my office," he said, almost to himself. He didn't expect D to respond, bu
CHAPTER 16
Michael moved quickly but cautiously as he stepped out of the elevator. He encountered a few people, but he didn't find it unusual. Everyone who works here is hardworking. Jam himself taught that to their employees. They were different, his friend was strict, while he was kind to his employees, especially the younger ones. He had a heart, which his friend always criticized him for."You'll fall because of your weakness, Michael. You always let your heart rule."He shook his head to forget that thought. He didn't regret being kind to his simple employees. What he regretted now was trusting people he thought were his friends."Got your six, mortal...""Why?" he whispered to his unseen friend."I need to guard you. You are only mine, Michael... I won't let anybody claim what's mine."He sighed. He looked behind him. There was no one, so he continued without hesitation. He was close to his office, so he quickened his pace. The excitement was flowing through his veins. He had never felt th
CHAPTER 15
Michael heard Brent's consecutive curses before he stood up. The impact of the explosion from outside was so strong that his two companions almost fell from their standing position. He checked on his two companions and looked at them to see if they were okay and didn't have any wounds. When he saw that they didn't have any glass shards embedded in their bodies, he approached Mang Jun and helped him stand up."Are you okay?" he asked, before glancing at Brent, who was dusting himself off."Yes, son. I'm fine. What happened?" He saw confusion on the old man's face.He shook his head as a response, even though he knew what really happened. He glanced at Brent again, who had an emotionless face. He was surprised by his friend's reaction. Shouldn't he have run outside to see what was happening, especially since the noise from the 3rd floor was loud enough to be heard?"I'll go ahead and go outside, Sir Brent. I'll check if anyone was hurt with my group, especially the elderly like me," Man
CHAPTER 14
Brent repeatedly studied Mike’s resume, Mang Jun's nephew's, several times just to make sure of what he was seeing - specifically, that the photo on the ID was still blurry. He placed the resume on the table, rubbed his temples, and let out a frustrated sigh. It wasn't even 9 am, and he was already overwhelmed by the things that were happening to him. And it was all because of one person. When someone knocked, Brent looked toward the door, his gaze piercing as if he could see through it. He cleared his throat and called out in a rough voice, "Come in." The door swung open, and to his surprise, Aera Ledesma stood there - a prominent stockholder in the company and a close family friend of Michael's. Brent rose to his feet as a sign of respect."Good morning, Ma'am Ledesma," he greeted, and she just nodded before walking towards his desk.Aera Ledesma was in her late 30s and had it all - wealth, connections, intelligence, and beauty. Brent couldn't help but stare as she walked towards
CHAPTER 13
Brent was taken aback by his sister's question. His eyes darted around, as if trying to hide his thoughts from her.Brent cleared his throat. “I—” He paused, choosing his words carefully to avoid raising his sister's suspicions. As a skilled police officer, she would likely see through any lies. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Jia,” he denied, reaching for the empty coffee cup.He was about to turn away when Jia spoke up again. “After that night, you’ve changed a lot, Brent. I don’t know.” She shrugged. “You’re being weird. Sometimes I catch you talking to yourself, and there are times when I see you outside in the early morning, staring up and talking.”Brent's brow furrowed at his sister's words. He had no idea what she was talking about.Talking to himself? He wasn't crazy yet. And what would he be doing outside in the early morning? He had no reason to go out.“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Jia.”Jia nodded. “Maybe I’m exaggerating. Don’t mind me.” She yawned an

Michael stared at the mirror. It was only 4 AM, but he was already in front of the mirror. He looked at his reflection as if it was an alien from another planet. Michael extended his hand towards the mirror. He touched his face in the mirror, a face he didn't recognize. He didn't undergo any face surgery, but it seemed like that's what happened. He looked like he had surgery to make himself ugly. At that moment, he couldn't see the face he didn't know where he inherited it from.Michael touched his face. If he had to compare the other side of his face to something, it would be like the skin of a carabao.Yes, half of his face looked like carabao skin. Aside from that, his skin darkened. His hair grew long down to his neck. His eyes, which were once well-shaped, now had one that was distorted, while the other seemed to bulge out. What he was seeing now was like a monster from the depths of hell. His eyebrows, which were once thick, were almost gone, as if they had been burned."You did
